Toying with getting one of these as it's a cheap route into HD. Don't want to spend lots on a HD DVD player until the HD vs Bluray situation sorts itself out

:tumble: :d

Not me.... isn't there something odd about these, in that they're not 'true' HD or something? something to do with the number of lines? I don't know.... I'm basically making it up now...

You have the addon HD DVD drive ? Or the 360 through a HD TV ? I have the latter but want to try a HD DVD but the 360 does not play HD DVDs itself, you have to buy the addon drive.

Looks like this http://files.xboxic.com/xbox-360-hardware/hd-dvd/360hddvd1.jpg

Not sure about them being not quite High Def., are they just upscaling then ?

I'm sure it wouldnt hurt getting one.. I heard blockbuster wont be stocking HD DVDs tho... Blu-Ray only. I doubt you'll ever get a blu ray player for the XBox tho.

This is what I mean about the poxy HD vs Bluray fight. But I'm sure I will end up with a PS3 so I guess that would cover both bases.

Seeing as it's piddling down outside, I thought I'd head out to game for the XBox HD DVD drive. Well £130 for HD DVD player seems reasonable so just grabbed one. Shame there is ANOTHER box under the telly, but I'm used to that ;)

Seems pretty good, just watching Serenity as I type. The neighbours are on holiday and the missus is out, so it's being played cinema loud - as it should ;) It's not so much WOW LOOK AT THAT as yeah I can see the improved clarity and a definite picture improvement, but I've been running component out from the DVD player anyway, so picture was pretty good before :)

HD DVD also comes with more band width on the audio track, but my AV receiver is a full year old so doubt I can make use of the improved sound track.

Glad I bought it tho, I do like my movies  Just need a PS3 for Bluray and I'm sorted, not long til christmas :D
