JonW
Car passed but apparently I need to replace the front tie bar/rods as there is play in the ball joint. Anyone know the part number for this or have an idea of cost? Cheers Jon
Nic
Do you mean the track rod ends? See attached, I sell for £35 each inc postage.
JonW
He did say make sure not to buy the track rod ends by mistake. He said they are the part the joins the rod ends to the control arms. At least I think that's what he said. I will double check Cheers
merckx
Stabiliser bar links?
JonW
Ok the exact statement on the advisory is as follows Front (BOTH) tie bar/rod has slight play in a ball joint. He specifically said I don't need track rod ends Any ideas??
Homer
Jon, is this from TV MOT? I can have a chat with them tonight if you want?
JonW
Homer, yes it was from TV MOT. Tried ringing Dave but I'm guessing he's busy at the mo as I got no answer. I'll try again tomorrow. Cheers anyway
Chris Wilson
As an MOT tester the guy would make a great politician. Ask him to describe the worn parts in terms that are easily understood and none verbose. I SUSPECT he is talking about the steering rack inner rack joints, but, hell, he could be talking about almost anything.
JonW
Ok hopefully this will clear this up. His description over the phone was 'It's the part the fits between the track rod end and the steering rack, sometime called a tie bar or tie rod'. Any ideas? Thanks Jon
Chris Wilson
It's the rack end, sometimes called the knuckle joint, available from any Toyota main agent as a spare part.
JonW
Thanks very much Chris.
JonW
Local Toyota dealer had quoted £77.73 icl VAT for each side. Anyone on here sell them?
Chris Wilson
It's the sort of thing you should buy new, and you may struggle getting the old ones off, they are Loctited on good and tight. You can damage the rack if you don't know what you are doing (I am NOT saying you are incompetent, just saying.... )
JonW
Trust me I wont be attempting this myself I am happy to admit that I am incompetent when it comes to mechanics. Changing brake pads is about my limit:-) I was just wondering if anyone here sold them new for a better price than Toyota. I guess it's not really the sort of thing that people keep in stock.
