Hi all, looks like 5th - 10th july is when we are going.

Ferries look to be around £40.50 return from Dover to Dunkerque

A nice drive from Dunkerque to Germany, with Petrol Stops along the way.

Accomodation, we are currently negotiating as were we stayed last year has upped his prices and we want to get back in there. Watch for posting info.

There is a TOC trip (Envy go on it) and AJI organises a trip as well.

If you want any info let me know.

Tom

Tom: I've been in touch with Martyn and he seems to be organising a group of 10 from his end, with all the palces taken - as far as I know this doesn't include the list above.

As a result I am thinking of organising my affairs myself but to coincide with their trip (same ferry ther e& back, same dates - but proibably not the same hotel as Martyn says it's full up due to a truck event that weekend).

Anyway, just wanted to check that you're not doing anything about this (I'm also guessing that you're in Martyn's group booking of 10?) as I don't want to steal your thunder, but I would like to get something sorted.

Everyone: If I organise something I'm happy to help a limited number of others (say 5~6 cars, maybe 10 absolute max) get over there and enjoy the experience. I don't want to be organising something massive as it'll just be a logistial headache and I'd like to enjoy my holiday! ;) Awaiting a reply from Tom but if he's happy with this appraoch I'll take down a list of who is interested, start working out where we can stay and advertise which ferries we're going on so people can book.... then take it from there.

Watch this space :)

Steve,

I'm not going.

But,

its the truck prix that weekend, hence ring haus is full.

Frank has a 2nd hotle so email him and he will book you into there. or let me know and I'll email him. But bookings have to be made, each person has to book their own ferries !!

SteveR

Cool, will do Tom. New thread coming up...

Shame you're not going buddy :(

SteveR

Trip now full, sorry! :)

My 'stance' on organising this... please read and only put your name down if you're happy with it.
- I have been to the Nurburgring once; last year on the trip that AJI organised. I loved it and cannot wait to get back, but I'm no 'world expert' so can only advise on what I know from that. I strongly encourage everyone to check out www.nurburgring.org.uk - especially the newbies bit - before signing up to this trip.

- I will organise a few details, but nothing more than that. I won't be paying for anything bar my own bookings; if you're coming along, you'll need need to actually make your own ferry and hotel bookings inline with the details I've announced - and in a timely manner.

- Breakdowns/incidents. I won't be responsible for anyone's car and/or actions bar my own. In advance of going, I strongly advise organising breakdown cover and checking that your insurance will cover you for the Ring (or taking out additional insurance if it doesn't). Don't worry about that right now, but I did want to state that right now at the beginning.

- Limiting numbers. I will limit numbers (that I am happy to help organise). First come: first served.

Stuff you should think about

Breakdown cover
Directline (http://www.directline.com/european_motoring/welcome.htm) provide temporary European cover (including repatriation to the UK) for our trip for £36.60 - if you book at least 7 days in advance it'll also cover your travel in the UK to & from the port.
Alternatively a year's ADAC membership (http://www.nurburgring.org.uk/adac.html) (the European version of the AA) is a git to get organised, works out at about £53 and will cover you everywhere apart from the UK, but including on the track itself. Without ADAC cover if you break down, run out of petrol, crash or get stuck in a gravel trap it'll cost you 175 Euros to be recovered to the car park. As far as I know, no-one had this cover last year, but I'm thinking about it for this year as it's not much more than Direct line for a 5 day trip - read the link given above for more info.

Maps/SatNav
Each car should have at least a paper map; you may decide to travel there/back at a different pace/route to the group (Spa isn't that far off the route), have mechanical troubles along the way, go out doing touristy things on your own mid-trip or just want to know where you are.

What if the worst happens and I crash?
Treat the 'Ring as a fast road as apposed to a modern track with run off areas (you're never more than a few metres from barrier), and don't push your limits and you shouldn't go far wrong. However, just in case I feel a sensible insurance policy is to take a credit card with you; as you are already aware (from the links I gave when starting this thread) that apart from the expense of being dragged off the track, any damage you cause to the track, and closures and/or spillages - have to be paid for - by you. It can quickly add up if you're unlucky (http://www.nurburgring.org.uk/prices.html) (scroll down). If someone catches up with you; they're quicker than you - let them pass, then get on with your lap. If you catch someone up, wait till they spot you and indicate to pull out of the way, then pass them and get on with your lap.

In summary; drive safe, don't try to race anyone, and take along a credit card for peace of mind.

Flag signals
- Yellow: Accident, reduce speed considerably, no overtaking.
- Yellow-Red: Oil spill on course, reduce speed considerably, no overtaking.
- Red: Course blocked, stop immediately.

Tips and Tricks (taken from the official website (http://www.nuerburgring.de/1_nuerburgring/touristenfahrten/index.html?L=1))
- Lights on for both cars and motorcycles.
- Pay attention to the signposts indicating especially dangerous sections of the course.
- Adjust your speed to your driving capability. (I already said that!)
- Emergency telephone number, please store it in your mobile telephone +49 (2691) 302-215.

Cash
There are a couple of cash machines in the local area, but they're not as prominent as they are in the UK. The one I know of is at the entrance to the motorsport circuit, so will effectively be out of bounds Fri/Sat/Sun due to the truck GP and could even run out of money - plan sensibly to avoid this or be sure your chosen plastic will work. (more info (http://www.nurburgring.org.uk/cash.html))

I'm not sure that the B&Bs will be able to take cards; please can everyone ensure that they have enough cash to pay for that on the morning of departure.

PMRs (Radios)
These make car-to-car/group communications much easier, are great for announcing junctions/stops coming up, are good for shouting out if an issue develops & you need to stop, add to the fun as you can banter pretty much non-stop, can be used when at the Ring as they're cheaper than phones and are basically almost essential to a trip like this - if (like me) you don't have one already, I suggest buying one. IIRC the important thing is that they have the sub channels as well as the main channels, this seems ok (http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5530434/Trail/C%24cip%3D50277.Office%2C%2BPC%2Band%2Bphones%3EC%24cip%3D50351.Two-way%2Bradios.htm); all the channels + decent range without being a rip off.

Insurance
1) Tell your insurance company that you're taking your car abroad, check that they extend your cover to Europe for the duration of the trip. (My policy with Sky covers me for Europe for up to 90/180(?) days each year - hence I have to tell them the dates I'm going to be abroad)
2) Check you're covered FC for being on the Nurburgring/accept the risk of damaging your car/take out additional insurance (£££s).

Travel insurance
'E111' cards (see PM #2) don't cover loss of passports/money/having to cancel going on the trip due to ill health/additional medical expenses like being brought back to the UK if you get really ill.... if you're worried about these things, you might decide to get some.

Hotel in the UK the night before?
The same day I confirmed/booked the ferry details I checked Travelodge and a few other national chains for cheapo availability in the Dover/M20 area - nothing - it's all at full price from what I can see.
As such, and because I'm tight (saving every last penny for laps!) I've personally decided to drive down from here (West Midlands) through the night, and try to catch a quick nap mid-crossing. If you'd rather get half a night's kip than do that, you should book something, now.

FAQ

Please start by reading this (http://www.nurburgring.org.uk/beginners.html), and this (http://www.northloop.co.uk/newbies.htm).
Then check out the official website (http://www.nuerburgring.de/1_nuerburgring/touristenfahrten/index.html?L=1) (most of which is available in English).

Feel free to post up any questions about the track/this trip specifically and I'll edit this post with answers...

Q1) How much is a lap?
A) Lap fees 2007 (prices inc tax, but exclude fuel)
1 lap ticket €19.00 (£13)
4-lap ticket €64.00 (£44 = £11/lap)
8-lap ticket €124.00 (£85 = £10.63/lap)
15-lap ticket €220.00 (£150 = £10/lap)
25-lap ticket €345.00 (£236 = £9.44/lap)

2007 ticket (valid for the purchaser to drive only, but for unlimited laps) €895.00

Q2) How much fuel do you use per lap?
A) It's a 20km lap (13 miles). On my first lap (slow, extra cautious) I used perhaps 1 'notch' on the fuel gauge. Once I started to know where I was going, it was anything up to 1/4 of a tank per lap. Petrol costs a tiny bit less than here but assume it's the same price for budgetry purposes. Normal and Super unleaded are available, but the nearest petrol station isn't Shell so there's no V-Power, sorry.

Q3) What do I need if I want to comply with the laws of driving in France/Belgium/Germany?
A) FYI I didn't comply with half of these....

GB sticker/numberplate
Headlight deflectors (even in daylight)
Warning triangle
Spare light bulbs
Torch
First aid kit

Also recommended are spare fuses, a fan belt and fluorescent vests for each person in the car.
At all times you must be able to prove that you are
a) licensed to drive the category of vehicle you are in
b) either the owner of the vehicle or that you have a owner's permission to drive
c) insured.

Licenses must be photocard licenses. If you do not have one you must also carry your passport.

More info;
France (http://www.driving-abroad.info/driving-in-france)
Belgium (http://www.driving-abroad.info/driving-in-belgium)
Germany (http://www.driving-abroad.info/driving-in-germany)
Motorway speed limits change from area to area but they have signs to let you know what they are ;)

Q4) Have you got a circuit guide?
A) Yep, PM me an email address and I'll send you a PDF.

Q5) How much is this likely to cost in total?
A) Please see the speadsheet attached to this post for a good idea. Put in your details and it'll add it up for you. (NB: Ferry & accommodation prices have been updated to show actual values)

Q6) When is the track open to the public?
A) Except when it's closed due to crashes, it'll be open....

Should be a LOT less than that mate, let me dig out the numbers....

EDIT - looking at http://www.cheapest-ferry-crossing.co.uk it's showing £27.00 (return!) if we go Dover <-> Dunkerque (never been but looking at the map it's near Calais, on the correct side for us to get to & from the 'Ring).

Excellent, excellent. I'm sure we can fit a couple of extras in - do you guys (Burna & Martin) want putting down on the list? It would be fantastic if you could come, I'm sure you'd love it.

Regarding hotels, there are the usual suspects but I've been extending my search a little. I think we'll struggle to stay anywhere that is very close to the ring as there is a truck grand prix on that weekend and the Ringhaus is already full - so I suspect the 'hotel-an-der-nordschleife' will be, too. I've found that a lot of the hotels ramp their prices up when there is a major event on, too. However, some of those that are a little way away are supposedly much cheaper, yet provide the same facilities.... I shall investigate the northloop forum and the nurbugring.org.uk forums a bit more fully then make a few enquiries with hotels.

I'll update the main post with attendees Ian - that way everyone knows where we stand.
I'm happy to take 8 in total (possibly 10) but not too keen to organise anything bigger than that at this stage as the convoy there & back becomes a complete fricking nightmare - as does finding accomodation that can take us all. :)

Hotels - I've been looking through past recommendations on the ringers forums (including those suggested) but will contact the hotels & guesthouses directly as availability will be stretched due to the truck GP. I'm hoping I'll get us somewhere at approx 35~40 Euros for a single, and max 50~60 Euros for a double (inc tax).

I'm pretty sure I've got us a return ferry sorted for £27.... niiiiiiice

Details of the hotel & ferry (key bits!) will be confirmed within the next 10 days so get your credit cards ready chaps...

Just for you Burna....

I've done a spreadsheet (http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/attachment.php?attachmentid=53833&d=1174051268) so people can tweak the various costs to their hearts content. Check out the FAQ on page 1 (http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showpost.php?p=1307895&postcount=5) where I have attached it. :)

As time moves on more and more of the costs will be defined (ferry & hotel most notably). That will give us a better picture but I've done my best for now.

Yeah no worries Steve, I can help as my German allows. It's not as good on the phone as it is in person, but I'm resourceful. My house is not huge, but I have room for 5-6 Supras in the driveway, maybe more if I am.... well, resourceful. As for sleeping, I have an extra bed, a futon, two couches, a recliner, and an inflatable mattress I use for camping. If I know how many are coming, I can try to find more room. I may be buying another couch soon as well. Let me know. I'm thinking that with the level of alcohol consumption that will undoubtably insue, there will be no complaints, especially when I'm cooking... :)

I've emailed a load of hotels but had no reply/no joy so far - I'm gonig to start ringing them instead now (literally!) as at least I get an instant response that way. I think my hotmail "junk" filter account has eaten some replies.... doh!

Anyway, I'll post an update on my progress each day so you know how I'm getting on; the attendees list will be closed once accomodation is confirmed as I'm not going to run about finding more accomodation for people whp didn't get their names down in time.

Lebsteif, if you're coming with us, you need to PM me your room requirements please - see page 1. Ta!

Because of the Truck GP going on at the 'proper'/new circuit (not the bit we go on) pretty much all of the accomodation is booked up. It's the second biggest event the circuit sees each year, after the F1 GP.

I'm faced with the choice of stay within a few km of the 'Ring but split us pover a couple of neighbouring B&Bs, or put us all in 1 place but end up about 20~30km away.

I've made the exectutive decision ;) to keep trying for more local places first; figured that a couple of hundred metres won't stop the two halves of our group from meeting up in the evenings at one or the other hotel, and I expect we'll head out to nearby eateries/drinkeries some evenings anyway. Also, getting to & from the circuit on GP day will be hard enough as it is, so the nearer we are, the better.

The good news is that I just spoke to a very helpful chap who can put half of us up in his B&B, and is trying all the neighbouring accommodation providers for me to try and find homes for the rest of the list... keep your fingers crossed, he's calling me back once he's done that so I'll come back later and post up the news :)

I've emailed and phoned probably 20 places so far, and been on 2 nurburging boards searching for recommendations and asking for help. If this chap can't help, I also spent a few hours finding more lists of more places, so we're not stuck yet. :)

Needless to say, AS SOON as I find somewhere with availability, WE NEED TO BOOK. You'll all get a PM with instructions once I've got foudn us somewhere, but please be ready to act fast, or risk losing your place.

Cheers!
Steve

lol Burna, thanks :D I'm not sure how many times I've cursed this flipping Truck GP, but I don't like it.... let's put it that way. ;)
German would-be accommodation provider: "You know that the truck GP is on, don't you?"
Me: ARRRRRRRRRRRGHHHHHHH :D

You really should come out mate, it's worth even the hassle of negotiating a Truck GP. The offer of taking you out in my Supe (when Kate is happy to give up the seat) is still open, and I'm sure others on the trip would do the same. The costs pretty much halve if you're not going to do any laps! :)

Already bought some from SupRo, sorry dude ;)
If you're selling your (little used) brakes tho...? :D

Bignum,
Unfortunately (fortunately?) the trucks will be on a different bit of the circuit to us. I'm thinking it might be worth going and seeing if any qualifying/practice is going on on Friday morning though, as the NorthLoop isn't open till lunchtime. :) I had a look at the truck GP website today (it's on when we're at the Ring you know ;)) and the drivers in the photos I saw seemed to be traditional fat truck driver blokes :D

EDIT: forgot to say, I've not had a call back from my german friend yet, if I don't hear anything from him by tomorrow evening I'll call him; we did have some fun translating phone numbers. Still got a fair few places to try from my list and Bignum just sent me some more potential options - cheers! :)

Hope you guys get sorted with accommodation soon.

I'm trying to think of nearby places that I remamber passing.
Kelberg has a few from what I remember and there was a place south of Kelberg we passed on last year's trip.... just can not for the life of me remember the names. :(

Koblenz also has numerous from what I've heard.

I had a powercut all day yesterday (came back on just after midnight), hence lack of an update!

I have some good news, the chap I mentioned before called round a few places and was confident he'd found us somewhere. I called the chap he mentioned and he's going to get back to me by Tuesday with confirmation of whether he can help us or not. I'm going to spend a few more hours today seeking out alternatives, just in case he can't help or I find something better. :)

I considered camping, but I feel that somewhere 'solid', with a decent bed (and preferably easy access to a bar! ;)) to come home to after a busy day being the fastest racing driver in the world ;) is important.

Accomodation (B&B) is sorted! :)
Phew! Thanks for the help & suggestions everyone.

I've no idea if there are any bars/restuarants nearby, but we'll be 4km from the 'Ring - which I thought was the most important thing, especially with the likely traffic problems the area may suffer during the Truck GP... I figured that if there isn't anything nearby we can take it in turns to be driver double up in cars - or get taxis - and go somewhere nearby (Nurburg/Adenau/bit further afield).

I'll get some more details about the area we're staying in ASAP and post up the details of the accomodation later today, and will PM everyone with what they now need to do (i.e. book ferry, and if any deposits need paying for the accomodation - waiting for an answer on that one...).

It's all official now; we're going! :D

I haven't seen any action in days. :D What are you on about?

I've just come back from the Ring in a buddy's M3. I didn't take the Supra because it's in need of some TLC. Wicked day, busy as hell because it's May Day here und alles ze Germans are off work. Only did two laps because 4 bikers had just crashed and I have school tonight. Besides, he was caning (sp?) the hell out of the car and almost put us in the wall.... twice. Ran into some of your countrymen there (R33 and R34), along with a lone Scottsman on a Ninja who'd stopped on his way back from a roadtrip to Italy. He looked like sh*t and his bike had scotch tape all over it.

Yeah I didn't get there till late. Shame about that - I hadn't realised you were going (in fact I didn't even know about the BBQ at all 'till the day before! lol)

Not yet - TBH I kinda forgot that I was going to call them and ask about things like en-suite etc - I was just relieved that we'd found somewhere! I was sent photos of the rooms in one of the 3 houses we're staying at which I can send on if you're interested. They don't show much bar a nice clean room with a bed in it; which is the key bit. Most of the time we'll be out, including in the evenings, anyway. :)

Can you & your associates reply to my most recent PM please Si? I'll chase up on the details of the accomodation.

All: I'll send out a final PM with the room details, last few details about the trip, list of stuff to remember, etc in the next week or so (bit busy this week/end). Some rooms will have 1 person in, some 2, and one room may have to squeeze 3 people in. If anyone has any strong feelings on who they'd be happy(/unhappy!) to share with, please let me know now.

Hi Guys

just browsing through your thread, just to let you know I will be there with the green kermit Friday through to Monday I will look for you in the car park, I notice some have been before but if I can be of any help just let me know. see you there

No problem mr kermit, i`m sure we will spot that green thing a mile off,:d ,just got a few things to do on the car now, rollcage seats, harnesses etc.Is it worth taking a spare set of brake pads along, obviously with 3 days ring driving is it likely`i`ll wear a set out?.

kermit2
11-06-07, 21:53
best thing to do is to check your pads before you go, personaly I dont bother to take any, just more stuff to put in the car, and ring racing stock the pad I use as a last resort, but I do have a good look at how much pad is left before I leave, I use Forodo ds3000 on the front, that is a very hard race pad, if you are using a softer pad and you are going to do a lot of laps then it might be prudent to take a spare set but it is very unlikly you will go through a set of pads in one weekend as the ring is not all that heavy on breaks and if you havnt got an annual transponder maybe the cost will determin how many laps you do.

roll cage, harness ect, seems you mean business,, are you planning to use it a lot on track.

...passes the time as we can all chat whilst driving over in Europe and it makes it easier announce turnings coming up (e.g. leaving the motorway and not getting caught out mid-overtake) and easier to organise any required fuel/unforseen stops.

Whatever PMR you get, if you decide to get one (I'd like each car to have one if possible), make sure it's got the main channels and the sub ones, too. The above link has, and also a claimed 5km range (i.e. should cope with the convoy when we're spread out over half a mile, unlike the claimed 2km range ones which aren't brilliant)

I know my name isn't on the list but that was because my plans were not definite until a number of weeks ago and also because my group of cars are going the Hull-Rotterdam route, so didn't want to confuse things.

(p.s. I thought you were wanting to keep your trip hush hush, for fear of prying eyes??)

We definitely should try for a huuge 'parade' lap all together at some point (your trip people, 'my' people, and the RX7/MX5 chaps who were there last year too - they'll be there at the same time as us lot, too.) :)

Wow.. less the one week to go... Had a bit of a crisis at work last week regarding my time off, but all has been averted (er.. at least until I get back)

I'm really looking foward to this trip. This is only my 2nd trip to mainland Europe (I'm a Canuck), and 1st time driving on the normal (at least for me) side of the road while sitting on the right hand side of the car... should be interesting.

I'm planning on leaving my house at 1am thrusday so please excuse me if I'm a little dozy on the ferry ride. At least the a303 and m3 should be clear at that time.

If anyone want's to meet up on the 303/m3 let me know.. my mobile is 07914 793594

Kate (my gf) and I will be leaving Worcester at about midnight, give or take. I'll be tired too! ;)

Figured the 2 hour crossing will give us at least a small opportunity to have a doze, but we're not in any rush when we get to the other side as the track doesn't open till 5:45pm and the B&Bs can't take us until 2pm - so plenty of stops on the way and maybe even a quick nap when we arrive and we should all be fine :)

We are setting off from Cumbria at around 3pm on the Thursday and catching the overnight ferry from Hull at 8pm.

The 'other' situation I believe now won't be a problem. ;)
(All this probably sounds really wierd to other people reading this but don't worry, its nothing serious ;) )

Parade laps are great.... (I promise I'll hit the proper gears this time !! Appologies once again for scaring any of you last year on the parade lap - it was not a planned maneouvre).

I over-heard a few people talking about the Supras on the track in the car park and over the PMRs last year. So it definitely makes an impact parading these cars around such a place.

Yeah we will be in Rotterdam 8am Friday morning and at the track by dinnertime(ish). We'll also be putting in a few warm up laps in the afternoon. I've got adjustable suspension this year so I'll be playing around with that on the Friday.
Need to find a good dry and wet setting if need be.

I've just bought another bullet cam so myself and my bro can act as camera cars on the parade lap if you like.... filming from the back of course ;)

D-bone - Take off, eh. I didn't know we had any members from the Great White North.

Steve - If you and Kate are tired and need a stop en route maybe for a nap or coffee, I live right on the Dutch border North of Aachen and West of Dusseldorf. 1st exit/or last exit depending on how you look at it, off the A46 near a town called Heinsberg.

AJI - Be good to see you again mate. Hopefully, our two groups don't spend the entire weekend separated.

Has anyone contacted ze Germans that showed up last year?

I will be joining you guys Friday the 6th and staying for the entire weekend. I don't leave for Alaska until the 9th or 10th. I don't know where I'm staying yet, but may park the car with yours and then pop up a tent if I can't find a room anywhere. Any rooms left Steve? I'm a bit bummed that Tom's not going, and now Martin as well. If anybody going needs a place to crash between the 4th & 6th, I have room. I won't be pushing hard this trip as I have a lot of little things to get sorted, maybe a couple of laps at a nice slow pace. Depends on how much work I can get done this week in between flying. I was near the ring today (driving back from a wine festival) and the GT3s were everywhere, along with a lot of old-school classic stuff too. Saw several trailer-queens en route, but I was headed the other way. See you guys Friday, or maybe sooner.

If Martin definitely isn't coming, and as things stand so far he isn't (there's a slim chance he might passenger in his brother's car) then we should be able to squeeze you in one of the rooms, assuming the people you'd be sharing with don't mind. :) [-EDIT: I've just been informed that one of Bignum's friends may be dropping out, if so you can have his room, Mike.]

I expect to be in 'the field' most of the time I'm not lapping so should be easy to find, but just in case, have you still got my mobile number?

Guys, my m8 dave cant go so the room is available and a ferry ticket, cheers si.
Cheers Si - he may have to pay for the nights booked and not used, as discussed the other day. I'll explain the situation to the hosts when we get there but they're well within their rights to charge for the nights Dave/Mike won't be using as they could have easily rented his room out to people going to the Truck GP, and will now be missing out on business.
I hope you/he understands, it's not fair on the B&B to just expect them to accept the last minute alteration and doing so could ruin things for the rest of us; the whole set of bookings was reserved for us based on my (our) word that we'd need all the rooms we booked.

^^^ I tried to make that ^^^ not sound arsey, but it still does - it's not meant to be! I'm just a little worried that we'll p1ss off our hosts who have, to be honest, bent over backwards for us to date. :(

Mike, the double room is yours for the Fri & Sat nights so at least that's sorted! :)

Bit of a difficult question to answer if you don't know how much pad you've got left mate.

If you can't getthem checked between now & going, it might be worth sourcing a set from Toyota before we go - I don't think standard pads cost much.

I didn't use much pad last year, but then I oly drove 10 laps as it was a shorter trip, and I didn't know the circuit or my car well enough to really push on. I was also worried about cooking my puny J-Spec brakes so went pretty easy on the brakes. In the end I didn't use much but have changed them anyway as they were very low. :)

If you don't get any before going, I'm sure that if they run out when we're there and we have to find some, we'll find some. :)

d-bone -- if you've got more than half pad thickness left then I wouldn't bother to bring any more. (Assuming your track driving style is brake pad friendly).
But if you think that you might need some and want to get them fitted over near the track then True Torque Engineering is only 5mins away from the track entrance. They do lots of work on cars such as ours and they are top notch guys.

They probably won't have Supra brake pads in stock but if you want their number it may be possible for them to order some in advance ready for fitting later in the weekend if you think you might run out of pad. ??

I hope your cam setups are fairly stealth, or you'll be flagged by the marshalls and told to remove them, or even worse, be faced with a temporary ban. Not good on a 5 day weekend.

Spoke to Bignum earlier and he said they are having a great time. Weather is dry and sunny today, much the same as it is here.

They all went to the ring at 8am this morning when it opened and had some laps with less traffic. Bignum has been filming his laps so hopefully we will all get to see some great footage when they get back.

When I spoke to him earlier they were chilling at the hotel and were going back this afternoon for more fun :)

If I hear anymore I'll let you know.

Weather all up through France/Belgium/southern Holland was fantastic today. I wish I had of been ar the Ring instead of traipsing around a very very packed disneyland paris. For anyone thinking of going across the summer really really do not bother. Even the crap rides had over an hour and a half wait time. There were little or no disney characters wandering around in those suits. A hell of a lot of pricey merchandising going on. Food queues were 30-40 minutes minimum even in the flippin hotel for breakfast FFS. So anyways am expecting some good vids and all of the boys to come back without smacking their cars AKA the rex lads last year.

Oh... you had to mention that last bit didn't you. Not saying anything more.

I've just gotten home a couple of hours ago. Absolutely beat. Will sleep like a champ tonight. It was a great meet this year and we really had a good time. Tons of vids and pics to be posted and I'll go ahead and put a plug in for Henk now. He really put himself out there to get some good footage, and man did he get a lot of it, over 400 clips and still building. He's going to compile a DVD or two and they'll be for sale for a small fee, which I am happy to pay. I've had to come home due to work tomorrow, but the boys should be posting up tomorrow and there will be plenty to tell.

It was great to hang out with Steve, Kate, Henk, Robbie, Darren, Joe, Mark, Andy, and Si. I wish we'd had more there with us, but our group did very well lap wise, and some of us were fortunate enough to get a lap in with George in his rocket of a supra. George - Thanks again, it was educational, and will now turn expensive, as I've got to have a well sorted single that's as planted as yours. There's just nothing like that feeling.

We were three separate groups this year staying in separate accomodations. Too bad we didn't spend more time together and would've been nice to do a big photo session and group lap.

All in all, it was a great weekend. I need new brakes, suspension, and tires as a result (they were all worn before hand). I'd love to do another meet in August/September, so anyone who's interested, look for a thread soon.

Unfortunately, we saw some nasty accidents and there was a lot of track closure. Three today as a matter of fact, and one had to be med-evac'd out via helo. Seeing two a little too up close and personal didn't help any either. Nobody in our group was involved, so don't worry. The track was rediculously busy. Thank god for 8am starts with very little traffic. 11am-5pm is just mental and there's way too many retards out there.

I'll get some pics and really bad vids up soon. I'm just too beat atm. It's all about a beer and bed.

Edit - Huge thanks to SteveR for his organizing the excellent B&B's and everything else.

Sounds interesting. You could hire one in the local Ring area, there are several different places.

Hi everyone, couldnt post last night as i got back late and was too knackered.
Got to say what a trip, start to finnish everything was brill, the people that went really made it special and thanks to steve for organising everything the place and people were fantastic mate.
Now onto the actual circuit, its the best thing ive ever done, as many of you know i`m a bit of a track a holic and the ring was like heaven for me, but having played endless hours on the playstation did pay off a little bit as far as knowing where the corners go, what you dont get is the undulations and bumps which really can catch you out, oh and the treat of the weekend was george taking me out for a lap in his green monster Wow what a car what a driver, then we did a lap with me hanging on in mine so i could follow his lines so thanks for that george if you read this, i`ll have some vids soon. Now back to reality and ive got to go to work.Forgot to mention we all got back ok, to the uk anyway.

Looking forward to seeing the videos and pics,

thanks for your company and good to see so many supras at the ring. Mike said he will organize the next one so look forward to seeing all there again. A great bunch of lads behaving themselves and having fun.

There is nothing to compare to the rush you get driving a fast car round the ring, worth every penny, must keep away from the barriers though

Hi. George:)
Glad you got back OK.
Getting out on the ring as a passenger in your car was great experience!
It gave me confidence in the supra and showed me just what a the car could do in the right hands

Top bloke. top driver:) Keep it up:d:d

Hi everybody. Hope y'all got back without falling asleep

I'd just like to thank Steve for getting this to happen and fit me into the trip so late in the day as well Ah Aristo for the Ferry ticket.:)
All in all a good trip made great by the people involved...

When are we going again:d:d

It was a great trip and I'm glad everyone enjoyed it. My only regret is forgetting to take George up on his offer of a passenger lap - maybe next time eh george? :)

I was hoping that after getting the Ring into my blood last year I'd start shifting it out on this, my second trip there - unfortunately the opposite is true and I really miss it already. :(

I'd love to think I coudl afford to go back out there again this year, but if not, I'll almost certainly be back next year and will be happy to organise a 'group trip' if people want me to.

I'll get started on a write up so I can look back in a few months and remind myself to save up for next year.... ;)

just a thought about accomodation,

I normaly stay at sliders guest house Bendan & Suz, Brendan is English, you can find it on Ben Lovejoys site, its clean and basic but has 25 beds and is great at the end of the day chewing the fat and and watching the days videos on his 40inch tv, we normaly get in takeaways pizza ect and sit and talk all night beer on site for the drinkers. Brendans has a lot of videos of laps of the ring to watch.

Just thought it would be good for you guys to be under one roof, so once you have made a date let me know if you are interested because he gets filled up quickly mostly with bikers, so you can do a block booking and fill the place up if there is enough, there are some rooms with 2/3 beds if you dont mined kipping in the same room about 28e each at the moment but dont worry if you prefer to make your own arrangments, but it might be nice to be able to stay together in a relaxed environment

Glad you all got home safely

I for one am still recovering!

After tagging along with AJI & his crew last year, I put my neck on the line this year and said I'd organise the club trip this year after Aron said he wasn't planning to.

Military planning was put into operation and in the end was mostly chucked out of the window with a few last minute changes; Martin & Ian R both had car troubles and had to drop out along with a non-board member, but Darren (D-Bone) and Robbie filled their places so we were back to full strength again:

Steve & Kate - Silver TT6
Darren - Storm Blue TT Auto
Henk - Silver TT Auto (half BPU)
Robbie - White T(61?) Auto
Bignum & Joe - Red TT6 (BPU, stripped & caged)
Andy & James - Black Impreza WRX (stripped, caged, Toyo 888s!)
+ JSpecGermany & Carly who live out in Germany and joined us for a couple of days/nights in a Black TT6

We met at the port in Dover at 5am, me having had no sleep since the morning before (I told you the military planning went out of the window). Most of my journey so far was spent showing people that I DIDN'T have my 'main beam' on, and in fact that 'dipped' HIDs are just that dammed bright. Maybe I should aim them down a little. ;)

So, a bunch of people who mostly didn't know each other, united by just one thing - lack of sleep. No sorry that's not right, I mean the lure of the Nurburgring. Only I had been before but I think I'd managed to answer most of the questions people had had up to that point, so there wasn't much to say. General chit-chat ensued, with most of us nervous and excited in equal measure; we're on our way to 'the green hell'.

We boarded the ship and set sail at 6am, at which point most of us grabbed a fried breakfast of some description, and a tiny bit of rest.

Disembarking in France we were seperated briefly (note to self: obey my own instructions next time!) but after a short while were on our way. I won't mention Henk's impressive yet rubbish SatNav which claims to know things like where Shell petrol stations are, he can explain that little detour ;)

To cut a long story short, the closer we got to the circuit, and the more tired we were, the worse the weather got. At least the first 200 miles were dry, we just had the last 80-odd in the p***ing rain!

My SatNav started to let itself down slightly and took us a really stupid route for the last 20 miles, but as it happens it steered us towards Adenau; a town that the track passes through.... I couldn't help parking up briefly and showing the group 200m of the legendary track, even though it was closed & empty at that point in time. Suddenly, and despite the lack of sleep, journey from hell, and empty track in front of us, we all woke up; we were here. :)

Checking in to the 3 B&Bs I'd managed to find - against the Truck GP's wishes (grr!) - was great. A place to call home for 5 nights, and our 'hosts' at each venue seemed to take a genuine interest in the cars (ours even looked them up on the internet the next day! :D) and a lot of care looking after us. Personally speaking, I couldn't have wished for more and will definitely call them up in hoping of staying there again once the dates are released for next year's public access to the 'Ring.

So, we were there, kind of unpacked, all of us very tired (especially me!), it was raining... there was not much point heading to the track for the couple of hours that it was open that night, really. A wet lap, after driving 575miles and being awake for 36 hours? That would be stupid.

So, minutes later, at the track :D, I lead a couple of the cars round; VERY SLOWLY! The Impreza with us decided he was 'with it' enough and had the backup of AWD in case he did get it a bit wrong. ;) All was well and someone (not me; I was asleep) even managed to correct a tiny slide I had on the so-called 'mini-Karrussell'. The wet lap, against all the odds/sanity, was a great finish to the road trip.

We all parked up back at the B&B at which point it had stopped raining so we walked to the opposite end of the village to a resturant. Steak, mmmmmmm. 'Nuff said.

The next day the track didn't open until the afternoon but we were curious to see what was going round. OMFG it was the new Lexus thingy that I had hated when I saw at the New York motorshow a few years ago. It looks JUST LIKE how I'd expect a modern day Supra to look. What's more, it sounds A-MA-ZING. Even better, it goes even faster than it sounds. Eeeeeeeven better - even though it's a Lexus it's already worthy to be called 'the new Supra' based on looks & noise alone but, they're testing/honing it at the 'Ring (could this car be any better?!!) and it does COMPLETE laps in 8 minutes dead, even with an extra chicane to try and slow it down! :D BTW it does at least 40,000mph on the straight! :D

We watched it from a few spots round the track; me mainly jumping up and down 6ft in the air with schoolboy excitement and Henk recording... check it out (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ShrOWznZbns).

Anyway, I digress.

The track opened at 2:15pm and I think we all jumped on it at some point over the following 30 minutes. I can't remember at which point on what day I/the others lapped, but we all managed to avoid incident and all seemed to enjoy themselves. The 'Ring really gets under your skin - well, unless you're Henk. Henk prefers Santa Pod and doesn't like the 'Ring at all, do you Henk? :p

Lapping is, well, fun. You can't really say much more than that. You either have been and know what it's like and can't explain it fully, or haven't and won't ever know what an experience it is unless you do. No mat
