View Full Version : Nurburgring: 5th~10th July - write-up
Excellent write up Steve. Glad everyone had another successful trip.
I was stood at Wehrseifen on one of the days and saw a train of Supras go round. It looked very impressive.
And Goerge's mean green machine looked the business on track. Seeing it accelerate down Hatzenbach and around the tricky fast right hander showed how much grip those cut-slicks have.
I managed to say a quick 'hi' to most of the Supra guys out there, appologies if I missed anyone.
I got round to doing 24 laps on this visit and knocked 8secs off my previous lap time (now down to 08:24) although I shouldn't really be timing my laps as all you do is push harder and harder round the track.
Saying that though I was only 8/10ths pace, reserving the final 2/10ths for safety marging. I don't think I'd like to push that extra bit and risk anything knowing that if the worst happened then its not only the damage to your car you have to pay for its the track closure time, the barriers, the marshal time, the barrier posts, the recovery truck etc. etc. As unfortunately Martyn found out in the RX7 (don't know if you know him or not, but really felt for the guy who also unfortunately crashed his RX7 last year).
Good to see more and more Supras turning up each year. :)

Nah, I always had complete faith in the ticket ;) Thanks again :)
I figured the wet lap was a good end to the journey. In the morning, and even looking back now - it was pretty stupid, I was almost asleep!! I'd do it again now that I'm awake, but probably show off at Brunchenn or something by getting it all sideways at a nice safe 20mph ;)
I really miss the place now, it never felt like I wasn't busy or enjoying myself but I still wish I'd done more laps. Never mind, there is always next year! :)
Where are the rest of the pics, Si, Henk, Robbie, Darren? :) I miss the place, get posting ASAP! :)
I didn't even have a camera! :D

Hi folks im BIG NUMS little brother james i didnt want to go to the ring to start off with as funds were a little short and food i was told wasent the best and also german women are hairy, but after andys passenger bottled it i thought well what the hell gotto be better then stopping at home with the wife so i packed me stuff and was off on a weekend (week) of suprise's.
Early starts are always a no no for me but was so excited i couldent sleep even if i tried, so that was that and what a great time we had.
THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH STEVE AND KATE as it wouldent have happened without you guys hope to be with you next year in my SIERRA lol.
Wow Very cool.
We can tell by all the webcam pix who the real track star was...
:P
edit: I never snap enough pix, but I did get a few cool ones. If anyone has a place to host em I'll post.

I spotted one of my spats (last picture) leaving the barriers and heading for the track, so I guess I'm just to dammed fast for the webcam to keep up with ;)

Yey! Hiya James :)
Really glad you could make it mate - I'm still chuckling about that thing you said in the stairwell when we were leaving the ferry :rlol:
Hope you will be back next year, with the beast. :)
I think youve attracted a few new members steve, good work buddy.:d
I wish I was back there, I'm having massive withrawal symptoms now :(
Bring on that lottery win, so I can go live there. :)
First off, I just want to give a HUGE THANK YOU to Steve. I don't think a more flawless trip could have been put together.
Every thing about it was spot on (oh shit, im starting to use English sayings)
I'm sitting here sipping my Kokanee (thank's Mike and Carley!) thinking about what a great long weekend Steve has given me (with Kate's blessing ofcouse). I keep comming back to the fact that I need several (many?) grand to get my car running, and sounding as freaking awesome as Robbie's.
Mybe for next year, I could, with a co-sponsership of James and K-Y jelly, pick it up to the level of Simon.. gotta love that fluid injection.
hmmm sounded less gay when I saw you breaking away from me on the ring... well, at least I know that if all goes wrong I could just kill myself. I mean shit.. Andy showed me how to do it for every single corner on the track.
If anyone's out in Sommerset, or B.C. Canada, let me know and I should be able to hook you up.
Henk, just PM me your address and you've got a cheque for a DVD of the trip comming your way.
Mike... I think you and I should trade places. I'll go off and work/fish and party while you listen to some Brits call the Yanks wankers, and the Yanks call the Brits useless fuckers, and then give a report to the only other Canuck in Somerset (who is the site leader) on communication.
Good times.
Thanks again Steve. Best few days I've had since I've moved to England. Infact, I'd say it was worth the purchase of the Supra alone.

Yeah, most of my working day was spend either telling everyone else how awesome it was, or thinking back to a corner I did well on, or a time I mess up.
Btw, I think it's telling that the worst incidents we saw the whole time was on the moterway home. Wow.. that one on the M26 sure made me slow down, never mind the one we saw earlier.

Hmm... don't think I saw anything on the M26 - must have happened after Kate and I had gone through?? I saw that the M25 was closed going the other way when we got onto that. They were turning people round!
Good point about accidents though. Thatt lorry one in Belgium didn't look fun for those involved :(

Wow! High praise indeed! I'm really glad everyone enjoyed it, and that I could give a little back after Aron organised last year's trip and introduced me to the 'Ring. My thanks are also due to Kate who was fantastic at supporting me & lead us all out there & back.
I keep thinking about how lucky we were with the weather - it couldn't have been much better really. Fingers crossed it's sunny whenever we go back - but one thing is for sure, I will be going back. :)
I have 578 video clips to compile so give me a few days but I can promise you guys some of the best automotive eye candy out there!
Henk, can you make a disc for JAE

Can't wait to go back :d

:welcome: to the forum! :)
Well Steve I've told my Sister In Law's hubby that Le Mans is off the agenda for me next year, so you'd better be going. ;)
For me, the pull of the place in no particular order is:
The company, the circuit, petrolheads fest, and the craic.
Ok so there won't be any of the racing, but the above will replace what I think has been lost for me at Le Mans.
So if i start saving about £20/week I should have enough? ;)

:gets calculator out:
Yep! A grand is enough money to do a 5 day/night trip reasonable justice. We found some nice places to eat that didn't cost a fortune when we were there - wherever I go ineth world I always think local's recommendations are a good idea regardless, but these seemed to actually save us money as well as being good! :)
Tyre wear is minimal, fuel, ferry crossings, food, petrol there and back and ~15 laps (inc tickets) I'd include in that grand, but would recommend an oil change (at least) before going, which I've not accounted for.
I can't wait to go back, I'll definitely be there! :) As soon as the dates for next year are anounced, I'll start a thread ;) Expect that to be February~ish though. :(
Any vids yet people? :)
Henk is usually on the ball so I'm a little suprised we haven't seen more from him.
Si on the other hand is probably off out playing golf :d
I think he had 540+ clips to sort though.. gonna take him a while

I've done vids of both my trips. But got no place to host them.
Anyone know of any vid hosting sites that are FREE ?
Not really a fan of youtube as they are well known these days for prying eyes by the law and criminals wanting to steal car details etc.

I'll be watching closely. Please attach link when you get it figured out. I have a ton of upgrades to put in before the next time.
Sorry guys, I've been floored with a horrible illness for months now. All the video clips are now categorised but not made into anything yet.
Sorry for the delay but my illness prevented me from making any progress...
I will have it done, bear with me....

Buck up little camper. Not to worry Henk. I know how it can be mate. I'm sick as a dog atm as well, as is Carly. I came back from Norway Friday and went straight to a wine festival an hour south of the Ring. Saturday nite came and my sickness crept in. I've been living next to a box of kleenex ever since. Can't wait to see some of the footage. Give us a teezer!
Henk :( Still Ill! :(
Tom - why have you ressurected your old thread, then merged that with the seperate ones I did (organisation, write up, photos)?
Hope your ok henk get well soon mate, do the vids when you get chance theres no rush,:)

I've got one of my faster laps from a buddy giving chase in his M3, but nowhere to post/host it. Ideas? I have some other separate footage from our trip as well.
Photobucket Mike? (free to join)
I tried to clean up Europe section. Assumed all was over with this for another year.
Apologies.

What sort of lap times were you getting in mike.

Unknown what the laptime would have been were it not for a nasty bike accident on the back side just after Adenau bridge, but my buddy and I have done several laps together in both cars and we estimate it would've been around a 9:05-9:15. That was on worn tires/brakes and really tired suspension with the car still limited. I hit the limiter three times on that lap, but the best part is the last 2 mins. As we neared the 170 degree right hander just prior to the first carossel, we caught a bunch of lap traffic that had slowed down due the accident. We passed some of them and then caught up to two M3CSLs and an R33 GTR. We passed the the two M3s and then I caught the GTR right at the bridge as we finished. I don't know if it was the fastest lap I've ever done, but it felt like it. I can't wait until the cars' delimited, the new tires, Teins, and big brakes all around go on this winter. I did a lap in the BMW a week ago with some friends... it was slow... ok... the 540i is a tank on chocolate rollerskates, but we had fun. I got passed by that black VW bus that has the transplanted 3.6 litre Porker motor. Friend got it on video and I have the window down as he screams by. LOL. Good times.
Good stuff mate, cant wait to go back, we may be going early next year like march or april some time, i`ll let people know what dates.
March it'll probably still be under snow Si, keep an eye on the official site for them posting up when it's open to us tourists. Easter is traditionally a massive(ly busy) weekend because it's usually the first full weekend it's open to the public, but expect lots of numpties & crashes (i.e. closures). Have a read of the trip reports on www.nurburgring.org.uk for what to expect. :)
I want to go back again net year, but have plans which might scupper that - I'm going to sell my Supe   and look at getting a facelift RSP that I'll BPU then look at modding a bit more seriously... I want to slowly but surely start building a track weapon but don't want to mod mine as in my mind it'd be nothing short of a crime - it's one of the few remaining stock Supras...

NO, cant believe your selling it, be nice to keep yours locked away and get something to mod, let me know what you decide on.

I've decided to get something that will keep up with you ;)
Seriously though, I'm not in a rush to sell, but will be in a rush to replace it once it's gone. I'm still not sure it's me, talking about selling my P&J, but I know what I want ultimately and it's got to be done. I'll not be able to watch when it sells and gets collected... :(
