They recently opened a 'Trade Centre' nearby and I was quite excited that I'd be getting 'trade' service at 'trade' prices

Wow, it couldn't be further from the truth.
The employ some jokers, probably not even at minimum wage. They have absolutely no CLUE about any of the products, can't even find anything within their OWN catalogue. Which they haven't even got at the counter!

I only wanted some plasterboard fixings (should be their bread and butter I would have thought!) and they were asking ME what a plasterboard is:blink:.
After 20 minutes in the queue they couldn't even find any similar products, since the itemnumber I gave them was out of stock (FFS!)

Another guy before me got the wrong bits and they didn't even know how to process the return (it was their fault in the first place!)

Truly sad. I'm never going back, it's just a waste of time.
I got the very same fixings from the local Wickes, they had them in stock even though it's a small store.

Even the screwyou.com prices are often a joke. I wanted a kitchen 9" extractor fan and they had it on 'special trade offer' for £99.
Got it from eBay for £70odd.

What surprises me is that I could see several 'trades' people in the queue.
How can they be in any serious trade and afford to waste so much time chasing prices so uncompetitive as those? Or can they all afford to pay full retail prices and then pass them on to their punters?

We went to the Gloucester depo one and they never had half the stuff in, we just use them online and get the things on there next day :)

I went to buy the strongest glue for fitting the mesh I bought while ago, asked the guys at my local store and they said they do something called "STICK LIKE SH*T" and yes it actually called that! and it does what it says "sticks like shite" cos it doesnt even stick properly and its shite really!

So incase you ve been recommended that sort of glue, dont even think about it.

Screwfix have been around for years, more widely known to the trade in the earlier days. They only used to do mail order and operated from a warehouse in Somerset, it was family owned at that time and the prices/quality and service were excellent then.

To my knowledge it was sold a few years back to the Kingfisher Group (B&Q) and they set up these 'Trade Centres', never been to one as the mail order service has turned shite too, I think they moved the warehouse up North and destroyed the original set-up.

I bet the original owners are loaded and having a giggle at the mess Kingfisher have made of it :d
