View Full Version : Clifford alarm not bleeping on activation. Are you there Mr. Harwood?
Worked fine before a short drive. Parked up and there was no BLEEP BLEEP from the alarm.
It still activates and shows two indicator flashes though. The prox alarm and Blackjax still work as well.
I thought it had somehow (whilst driving!) decided to switch to QuietChirps or no chirps but it hasn't.
If it helps I am not getting the ticking sound when the Blackjax timer is running. Normally it's three chirps then about 20 seconds of tick tick tick. I get no Blackjax disarmed chirps either.
I also don't get an activation chirp when I go into the master settings mode or any audible notes when setting the master setting. Although it does sound when changes are activated!
I'm thinking a loose connection somewhere and an imminent alarm service.
Any other opinions?
You are a funny f**ker, aren't ya?
I presume you've entered the programme mode and gone through the column/row thing to rule out turning any features off.
If so only things I can suggest as mine did this once would be to switch it into valet mode and back as I knocked mine into this setting by accident.
Hope that helps.

I had this happen on my old car, activating it with drivers door open or ignition on or something like that sorted it.
Cant remember exactly.... no need to thank me for this information :D

mine stopped chirping a while back, is usually a sign the backup battery inside the siren is almost dead. 10 minute job to change.

As I can only access valet mode by typing in my pin and pressing a button for five seconds it'd be hard to do this by accident.

I'll have a play tomorrow.

Sounds plausible. What batteries does it take?
you can turn the chirps off from the remote by pressing a certain key on the fob, or 2 at once, might have done it in yer pocket or somthing, cant remember which though :(

10 out of 10 to the above.
The Cliffords use the sirens internal batteries to provide power for the arm and disarm chirps, thus giving you warning of when the internal batteries are on their way out.
All the rest of the alarm functions will operate correctly, so don't panic, it's not developing a fault.
Either change the siren and it will all return to normal for the next 3-4 years, or live with silent arm/disarm, but bear in mind that if someone cuts the siren cable, the siren may not sound.
Hope that makes sense :)
Cheers Matt.
Do I buy a replacement siren then and if so, how much are they?

Personally, I would.
You can either get it done at any Clifford dealer, and expect to pay in the region of £90-100 including the fitting, or contact Sextons Maidstone and ask for Mark. I'm sure he could supply you one for about £50-60, and if you know the basics of car electrics they're fairly easy to fit.
Cheers Matt,
One more question. Is this also the cause of the Blackjax ticking countdown not working all that well for the last few months? It's either been inaudible or very quiet.

Hmmm, shoudln't be, to be honest. But knowing that the siren is on it's way out is could be having an effect on other sounds.
I've seen a couple of waterlogged sirens in the past. When they get drowned in water, the battery pack is always the first thing to go, followed by a variety of different fault conditions...
I think I'll get it booked in for a service. Make sure it's all tippety-top.
Thanks again for the advice. Much appreciated.

Theoretically that would work, but just a word of caution, the G5 sirens are much smaller than the G4 sirens.
I've never taken one apart, so I can't say for sure if the battery packs are likely to be different too....
Didn't bleep this morning, drove to Leeds and it's fine again.

Matt - are you Clifford expert? I have a Clifford 100 I need to have installed, and the only qoute I've gotten here in Germany is like 250 Euros. Seems a bit steep. Would it be possible to install it myself?
Thanks.

Hi
Mine does the same thing, but only after it gets hot. If i drive for more than a few hours, the siren stops working, and then comes back online after a few hours/next day. I think it's too close to the turbos. Been doing this for about a year :)
