Changing the Hand Brake Shoes?

Going in for a bit of a major service on the car and just wondered if I need to change the hand brake shoes as part of replacing the rear discs?

I have had the car for 5 yrs and they have not been changed during the time I have owned it.

Is it good form to change the shoes when doing the discs or do they rarely need changing?
