View Full Version : Southern Gumball Rally
Description
Given the success of the last two Hampshire based meets (Portsmouth/Southampton mini-meet (http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=9519) and Hampshire mini-meet and barbecue (http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10575)) it's been suggested that our next meet could involve a southern county Gumball to try and allow as many people as possible to meet up at different locations. People in different areas would nominate suitable meeting points, we'd select one as the starting point and then post up the routes to the next one. People can then break off for home when they felt like it, and people could join when the convoy came through their area. The hard core amongst us can do the whole route! :D
The route may go through counties like Hampshire, Dorset, Somerset, Wiltshire, Berkshire, Surrey and Kent. If enough people want to join in (and it would have to be a fair few) we could make it a two day event so we're not doing to much driving in one day.... which is bad! :innocent:
This is obviously going to need a bit of organising if it's to be successfull. I'm more than willing to do this, but before I go charging in sorting things out I need to make sure enough people would be interested. So if you are get your name down now!
Once I have an idea of who's comming, from where and what date I'll start to sort out the pubs to meet at and the routes to get us there.

I would like to see dude and paul attend along with Matt and N/A Scott Kent, Bduffy SAS and Angie babes; thinking that it could be 2 much hassel re costs of barbis etc if we invite other groups and the cops would have a feild day!
<b>Which counties to visit?</b>
Most in the south & south east
<b>Which pubs to visit in those counties?</b>
I will sheep this one (not bothered go with the flock)
<b>One day event or two?</b>
1 day imo as we will need sunday to rest before work on Monday
<b>If two, do we want to stop at the Haynes motor museum in Yeovil on the Saturday?</b>
Pref 1 day but the museum thingy sounds good
<b>Supra only or invite selected other groups</b>
The more the merryer (sp?) selected performance Jap cars though (as has been suggested previously) I would say SKYLINE,GTO,ZED and maybe SCOOBIES as this would be more of an attention grabber if 20+ soops flying down the motorway doesnt do it for ya .:flame Dev
oh BTW we should add our location so organisers have a better idea when it comes to planning the route.
L O C A T I O N = Redhill,Surrey.

christ, we are only a few cars off of the sunday meet, that was great! where is everyone else!? ;)
Rather than having loads of copies of lists flying around as people add/remove their names etc, I'll be maintaining the first post with all the details as and when decided. That way it will be much easier for anyone first visiting the thread to understand whats going on.
As you can see I've started already with the locations.
Ok but I reckon we keep it Supe only personally - but whatever works really.
I don't think the Haynes idea will work with HUGE numbers of motas - especially if track use is required - but I imagine they can accommodate many visitors in the carpark :-)
When numbers / route / locations get settled upon I will enquire with Mr H.
R
Supe only IMHO - I'm Guildford, Surrey, but as I said in previous thread this 20/21 weekend might be a bit tricky for me, will have to wait and see but hopefully be there :)
I'm actually Buckinghamshire not Berkshire, but close :) "Near Oxford", about half way between Oxford and Milton Keynes is where Aylesbury sits. I dunno if oyu kids would want to come out this far, but there ARE other Aylesbury Supe's (Mark Kindell and a few random ones I see around that don't appear to care or know about this site).. mfs is in Bicester, just down the road, and somebody else is in Hemel, likewise just down the road.. and further somebody else in Oxfordshire which can't be too far from here. I'd really like to meet some of the local boys, I've only met the Portsmouth/Southampton people so far.
So.. give me a yell if you want to come out Aylesbury way -
My thoughts are that I'll probably head towards the starting point, I'd be up for making a day out of it, so don't worry about coming this far out to pick me up or anything (it's 90-100 miles each way from Portsmouth to Aylesbury, based on my trip to Lee-On-The-Solvent).
Answers:
1) As many as possible (but not so all we do is spend all day driving - although it's lovely to drive the Supe, this is a "meet" afterall - and if we're stopping at numerous pubs, we won't be able to do a massive trip in 1 day)
2) I can nominate a couple of pubs with decent parking if you want to come to Aylesbury, but be forwarned all the pubs here suck.
3) 1 or 2 day doesn't bother me all that much, I see positives and negatives to both.. but if it's 1 day, I think we should try and cut down running around like blue assed somethings. One stop per county, for an hour or so? Guess this comes down to 'how many counties?'
4) I reckon Supes only personally.
Mawby: Let me know if you need any help organising, I'll do what I can - I can see a logistical nightmare trying to figure this out.
-p
Just so we're all looking at the same map to try and figure these things out, I propose this one.
It's straight from my Michelin street atlas thingy, and it has an excellent route facility (far better than multimap's anyway), so route planning should be pretty easy with it if you'd like.
You can see Aylesbury below where it says "BUCKINGHAM" in bright yellow. Would people be happy coming that far out? As you can see, it's a fair hike from Portsmouth/etc - I can see this being an expensive fuel day :)
Note: Due to the 200k filesize limit on this BBS, I've had to resize the image a lot, so it may not be as useful :)
The original is available at:
www.web-axis.net/~pulse/map.jpg (600kb)

Sounds good- anyone got a spare space in their car? :(
Can do beginning of October, but I really don't know if I'll have the motor back by then or not *sob sob*
I'll have a spare seat which you're welcome to occupy, but I would imagine that you'll be inundated with offers from the chaps on the board!!!

I'm actually Buckinghamshire not Berkshire, but close :) I was trying to match people to the closest county from the original list above rather than where everyone actually is. Hopefully that way we get better results as to which counties most people can get to. ;)

I'm intrested, and as you cant tell a bit new to this.
I'm from Bournemouth, but i dont mind going to Hampshire or another neighboring county.
I wouldn't mind meeting up at some point but don't think i can make the Saturday.
I could come along on the Sunday if you decided to turn it into a weekender.
I'll look forward to seeing some other soops!

Well thats 3 people from on here around your area that I know of, you, SimonB and another newbie who's in Ferndown.
Welcome to the forum by the way :)
Right, my input as follows
Dates, can do both as said in previous thread.
Counties - as many as possible, am willing to travel all over the place, dont get out that often :)
Pubs - think we'll need help from people in other counties here.
Days - 2 but people can do 1 if they want.
Invitees - Supras only (my own prefernce but will bow down to the general opinion)
Motor Museum - Go for it.
Mawby, if you need any help with this then give me a shout, as Pulse said.....this could be the logistical nightmare of your life!! :D

For the next couple of days I just want to get an idea of who's interested on whats days, and where most people will be travelling from. Then I'm thinking of starting posts in the chit-chat section for each county to allow people local to the area to decide where we should all go. Finally I'll work out with those people the best routes to take. See, easy really!

Mawby: Ah okay, cool.. I'll take it from that Berkshire is close to me, then :)
As I say, I'll probably come down to the 'starting line' and do the whole trip, it's not like I ever have anything better to do than drive my Supe! And yeah, 1 or 2 days are both A-OK by me.
-p
I'll be up for this ...
no real prefences to be honest I'll be glad to go along with the rest of the flock.
I'll have a think about pubs to nominate in wiltshire as well.

But you have loads of mini-meets up north anyway, you could always do the same and organise something for the same days.
At least that way we'd know that we're all doing the same thing on the same day, just different locations :D

Yay, another local Supra! I'm in Christchurch, and should be up for this - couldn't make the BBQ thing.
Just got a text from p00t - says he should be up for this as long as his finances are ok :)
Stuff the fuel bill I say :D
If it's on the South 'coast' = probably...
If it's mozying (?) up towards Guilford/M25/Kent = definitely...

2 day = OK

millhouse (Springfield).....:D
Decisions to be made
1) Which counties to visit?
Hampshire
2) Which pubs to visit in those counties?
The Quays or Hot Shots Southampton Hampshire
Southsea Portsmouth Hampshire
Bournmouth Pier area Dorset
3) One day event or two?
Don't care
4) Supra only or invite selected other groups?
Supras only
20 names on the list!
This is going to be a fantastic event. Seriously kids, if you haven't put your name down, now's the time to do so - everybody loves convoys, and 20+ Supra convoy 'round the south-east is going to be great!
Get your name down, and if you're not in the south east - get your name down, then get down to the south east! :D

Oh go on then. Put me down for it!

Don't care: paul_y3k, Steve WLooks like the general concensus is this should be a Supra only event then.
22 names down so far! That will be great convoy of Supra's! :D Anyone know what the largest convoy of Supra's has been so far? Answers here (http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=11653) please, not on this thread.

I think it should be Supra's only for maximum impact.
If you visit Bournemouth there’s loads of good pubs, and plenty of parking close to the seafront for good photo ops. Only trouble is the local nova kids. I’m sure they will all be amazed at all the proper cars on show though
My girl and I are up for this. Another one in Wiltshire.
:looney:
I'll second that. I'd love to show all those Nova tw*ts how it should be done, and like Tim said the parking is pretty good.
You could eevn get some shots on the clifftop overlooking the sea that would look really good.
There are also some good bars pretty close to big car parks as well.
My girl and I are up for this
oOO Might ask my lady to come too if people are bringing there gals - she can make use of herself and hold the camcorder - if not its gonna have to be me & one of my mates :innocent:
The first post has been changed to include links to chit chat section posts where people can discuss what places they would like to visit as part of this event. Lets get organising! :p
i think we should not have planned routes
just check points every 30 to 60 miles at pubs, car parks, petrol stations etc..
at the check points we wait for all of the cars to arrive before moving on
also we should have a petrol station check piont every 100 to 200 miles
and check points before towns so we can convoy in to them
Is that confirmed for the 20/21st then? boooooooooo
Originally posted by millhouse
i think we should not have planned routes I disagree with this. I think there should be a planned route to make it easier for people not familar with the area. That doesn't mean to say people have to stick it, it's just I'd much rather someone local to the places we go to told me the best route to get there instead of me trying to figure it out for myself.

Again this means people with local knowledge can lead the rest of us through the minor roads we might not be familar with.

Is that confirmed for the 20/21st then? boooooooooo Yes, definitely the 20th, maybe the 21st once we've decided destinations and worked out how much travelling is involved.
so, you might be able to say:-
"**** Petrol Station @ ~****O'Clock,
**** Service Station @ ~****O'Clock......"
? ?
I'm with Millhouse on the check points thing. IMO the meeting points should be organised and maybe a 'leaving from' time set but the journeys i think should be less organised. This doesn't mean people can't post up routes or help each other out, but i don't see that many of the meeting points will be far off of main A-roads, will they?

Something along the lines of...
(00 miles) -- Arrive 10:00 - This pub here - Leave 11:00
(10 miles) ---- Join M?? J? via local routes
(20 miles) ---- Leave M?? J? joining M?? J?
(30 mileS) ---- (Break) Services at J?
(50 miles) ---- (Petrol) Shell station at J?
(55 miles) ---- Leave M?? J?
(56 miles) ---- (Meet): Little Chef
(60 miles) -- Arrive 12:00 - Pub over there - Leave 12:30
...with seperate "local routes" directions from major routes to the destination for people who want them. I'll try and mark as many petrol stations on route so people know where they can get fuel from. I'll also mark some break points where people wishing to have a break from driving can do. Finally I'll mark a meeting point where those who are not late can meet before the next destination and travel in convoy.
Sound ok to everyone?

I'm Confused...but I'm sure it will make sence to my small brain in an 'It'll be alright on the night' kinda way...still think Longleat or Haynes will be great places to visit....but I am happy to follow...Thing is you can't please everyone...I want to come down from Middlesex and be on it the whole way where ever it takes us...I'm happy to follow...its a great idea...
As much as some of us would like it to pass outside our front door I'm travelling at least 20 odd miles to join it so think everyone should be prepared for similiar distances....
Good Luck...and I'm def in on this one.

 Unfortunately I doesn't look like I will be able to join you guys at all (if anyone's interested) now after a 'coming together' with a stupid old lady fu**ing around in the road.
I am desperatly trying to get her fixed but it doesn't look good, its painfull seeing her smashed into a million pieces.
Anyway, I now need a front bumper, pair of headlights and the fixing brackets if anyones got one, I will ppost a note in the appropraite section soon when Branners gets my membership money (hopefully today).

Just been through all the posts on this thread and I can only make out 22 people. Supragal I did have down as a yes, but from the last few posts I gather she can't make it :(
There's still a fair few members who haven't said yes or no, JohnK, Dunk, Dude, Paul E, TRD3000GT, Andrew, Mandygladstone.
These were just from the BBQ meet (excluding Dude) but thought on the tour that Brighton or Newhaven might be a good cruise point so we could pick him up or just gatecrash his work and all get reprays :innocent:
Drivethrough resprays......nah it'll never catch on :stupid:
She was Okay, just a little shaken up, I however, was completely pissed off as you can imagine.
I am trying to get the car fixed as we speak but I don't think I am going to find the headlights and front bumper very easily.
Thanks for the offer of a ride though, I might be working on my car on the Sunday now.
I should get my SZR next week, if I do and can register it in time I will come down in that.

so only 22 ? we need to set a target of 30 ! :p im sure others dont visit this site as often so may add names nearer the date - how about some cheap flyers we can stick on supra windows if we see any parked up ? this would also be a good way of introducing the BBS

Once we have the destinations sorted we can probably get more "local" people to turn up at each place. 22 of us driving around, 30 or so at each stop. Sounds good to me! :D

I know people say that they are running 1.2 Bar daily on there cars but is it really okay to do this?
What in all of your epinions is a safe boost pressure to run at using a standard Jap spec GZ TT with only a Nur spec exhaust and both cats removed?
When do you need to start looking at uprated hoses, intercoolers and lower compression pistons, thicker head gaskets etc.?

Ashley, this is the main thread, mawby has used the other threads for people to discuss in the counties where would be best to meet etc.
I have no idea about Kent for example, whereas Mid and Geeza or others would so they can discuss in that thread.
Latest is, there's only 2 weeks before this kicks off and not many people have put ideas up in some of the threads, hopefully thatll change soon :)

I've been to a pub in Westerham (A25 between M25 5&6) with Geezabloke, SteveW, and Roy + a whole bunch of skylines. This certainly had the parking capacity we may/will need and could make a good meet / rest point.
Then how about Bolney (near A23/ A272)? didn't go myself but am assuming there was a sizeable pub around.
Then straight down A272 to Winchester and either
up to the services (Sutton Scotney) on the A34 just south of the A303 junction and then down the A303 to the west or north to Swindon, Oxford and round to possibly Milton Keynes and essex?
or down to the services on the M27 between junctions 3 & 4 and onto Bournemouth, longleat Swindon etc.
obviously routes optional but included to give some reference between possible grouping points.
Is everyone still keen?
If you're heading Oxford/Milton Keynes way, there's a very nice pub on the side of a lake in Watermead, a little development just on the outskirts of Aylesbury. There's usually quite a bit of parking towards the back of the carpark, and it's by far and away the nicest pub in this area.
And yes, I'm still keen. :) I just don't know the areas we're passing through.

I think its the Grasshopper in Westerham?
But not sure i can make that weekend....:(
Anyone thought about heading into Brighton? The crawl along the seafront will certainly get some attention :(
mawby, mine and your comments via PM the other day, don't worry I wont be suggestion London, after the recent trip on Sunday it would deffo not be a good idea.
Not saying that the trip on Sunday wasn't worth it, but trying to keep a convoy of 8 - 10 supes together was bloody hard work, only needs one person to get left behind and all the other fookers to drive off and your stuffed :innocent:
So London is deffo outta the question.
As for the rest of the places mentioned, I have no idea where they are but will follow along as it'll be cool no doubt :)
Geeza, are you going to the Southend thing the week later?
If so maybe the powers that be could move the Gumball back to that week and we could circle round from Kent and end up in Southend that evening?
Mawby jive etc, this is just an idea to include someone obviously 100% interested in the event and also gives the gumball a final destination. I'm pretty flexible on the timing but realise others may not be............what say you?
PS imo I don't think it should be precessional.

PS imo I don't think it should be precessional. I'm at the National Finals at Santa Pod on the 26th and 27th, so if we make it a week later than I wont be able to go.
The intention is not for everyone to be in convoy all the time, it's simply that if we all know where we're starting from, and we all know where we're going, and we all know the rough route to get there, then those who want to travel in convoy can do and those who don't can... well.... just drive on to the next destination. (and get the drinks ready for the rest of us! :D )
I'm at the National Finals at Santa Pod on the 26th and 27th, so if we make it a week later than I wont be able to go.
i thought it was probably not going to be possible to switch but you don't know til you ask :)
I've just been playing with MS AutoRoute 2004, and one of its features is ability to find petrol stations (by brand) along your route.. when we figure out the route I can easily tell you where all the Shell stations are along the way (though can't promise they have Optimax), within X miles out of the way of our route or along it.
It's accurate down to street level for all of Europe and I have to say it's actually a very, very funky peice of software. I just did a route from my house to where I used to live in Sweden including stopover places, motorway services and petrol stations and such and its come up with the goods far better than I expected (or have seen from ANY other mapping software). It even pinpointed exactly where the house was on the road (I can tell by the turns and such in it), on a pissant backroad nothing in a pissant town in the middle of Sweden.
I'm impressed, and it's not often that anything Microsoft does that impresses me.
-p
That's because they bought it from someone else! I used Autoroute 2003 for a 3000 mile trip round Europe this summer, and it was pretty good on the whole. Sometimes the search for a roadname doesn't work properly though - spent bloody ages trying to find our hotel in Modena because it couldn't find the street, then when we finally found it and clicked on the road on the map it came up with the right name and everything. Mappoint is better though because you can get add ons for it for better GPS etc, but it's expensive.
Well Im still up for this, weekend of the 27/28, Im working on the Sunday........
Another way I thought of doing it the other day, is say theres 20 of us, will all submit directions to our house, and its given to the first person, that person then drives to the next closest person to him, pulls up outside his house, and them 2 then move onto the next closest person, turns up outside his house and so on, when everyone is picked up, because the first 2 have been driving all day and the last person has just joined, they then drive to the first person house and drop him off, they alll then drive to the seconds persons house and drop him off, until its just one left after dropping everyone of home, that way everyone either gets to be picked up or dropped off by a load of Supras. Maybe a posible for something different one day..of course with stops at pubs and stuff........
Ashleys idea actually sounds pretty good :)
Although I could imagine that 20 or 30 Supes parked down my road would be quite entertaining, especially as it ends in a cul-de-sac :D
Could always do pickup points near each persons house?
I must say though, the thought of having to wait till everyone turns up to pick you up would be unbearable [well for me it would] :D
I think Scooter wouldn't be too happy about this either as he seems set against a convoy of Supes  ;) :p
Given the resposes and suggestions I've made a first attempt at a route. It's not in any detail yet, but you can get the basic idea and decide whether you like it or not. It will NOT be possible to extend the route further in ANY direction unless we either make it a two day event or remove a destination from the other direction. I'm also not to sure we'll be able to go the both Longleat and the Haynes museum purely because of time restrictions. Either that or we miss of Bolney which could save a couple of hours, but that means we're not heading very far East which wouldn't be fair on those from that area. The route starts in the North and ends up in the West. Any questions, comments, suggestions then please let me know ASAP! One thing I'll need to sort out is some stop points in between the larger points, but until we've agreed on those points there's no point trying to sort it just yet. Have you got the point? :)

As I said, this was a first attempt at a route and is by no means final, but if I don't get ideas for places to go in the East then this is how it will stay. And please suggest actual places (like pubs, parks, beaches whatever) and not just areas. And if we want to go a far East a Margate then suggestions for a stop over/places to stay the night will also be needed.

what fcuking ideiot thought that we'd all venture to Margate????
Taken in jest sir.
No. Madistone, Brands Hatch have good arears and pubs, Maidstone just off the motorway M20/M26 has a big beefeater, lots of space and it's on the river - so I kno0w at least 6 peeps from this area... where are they and what suggestions? Or is it the case that the cars might clock up a a mile or so! Ahhhh...
Jesus.
Up for going any distance pal. me, Scott, Geeza, errr cant think? WHERES THAT LIST SO FAR! Perhaps a small meet this end and on to meet the rest????:twak:

Err... am an Idiot for not spelling correctly once in that? err me thinks so. :stupid: :stupid: hey my new wheels!
ok I will meet you guys @ bolney - any ideas what time you will be there for ?
Right, decisions decisions decisions....
I'm going to do another route including Maidstone, possibly even Margate if a suitable place in Margate is suggested. Then I'm going to spend hours (go on, get the violins out!) calculating routes and times between these places and see what happens. Quick show of hands, who would prefer the Haynes motor museum and who would prefer Longleat. Longleat is only a couple of quid to get into the grounds and has my vote because I've been there before and know it will be an execellent place to get a group photo. I might shuffel things around as places like Longleat and StoneHenge close around 5-6, while the pubs don't. I'll have a play ( ) and see what I come up with.
Keep the suggestions comming!

I notice the route gets quite close to Marlborough in Wiltshire; it's an old town with a large open market square in the middle. Might be a market there on Saturday, and would be full of shoppers, but it's usually possible to pull up for a while on the double yellows alongside the shops. Would be guaranteed a load of attention from all the shoppers. Will be nice to convoy thru a town somewhere and really get noticed by lots of people! Salisbury is always cool to cruise thru (I mean straight thru the town centre avoiding the congested ring road). 1 Supe usually gets a lot of attention, let alone 15-20!
BTW the A345 from Amesbury to Marlborough is narrow and twisty, but usually fairly empty and some of the twisty bits, especially as you approach Marlborough, are great fun for those who like that sort of thing! Great view as you come down the side of the valley into Marlborough too, especially late in an evening.

Marlborough is a nice place and its close to all the lay lines ideal for Ash, Millhouse and myself so we can fill up with cosmic Optimax ....places nearby like Avebury Stone Circle and Silbury Hill...then there's Devizes etc great area and really nice roads with vitually no cameras.
Big Up to Mawby for organising this one...bit confused about where we are going I have looked at the map but the route dosn't seem to show up for some reason...so bit confused..can you post a clearer one...if you get a chance.

Ah bugger, double booked myself for this if its on the 20th? :(
Gonna have to try and sort something. If I can, and you still do that route from the map - I'll meet up as you pass by Guildford!
For safety reasons (ie too much driving) I'm going to make this a two day event. Saturday (the west side) will start in Wiltshire, go through Somerset and Dorset, and end in Hampshire. Sunday (the east side) will start in Berkshire, go through Sussex and end in Kent, although this may change if there's enough time to double back on ourselves and end in Sussex. I'm in the process of sorting the routes now. West side is done, east side hasn't been started yet but will be done early tomorrow. The west side will start at 10:00 and end anytime after 16:30, covering 173 miles and including 6 major stops. The route I've chosen takes us through all the recommended routes where possible. I've allowed for a 1 hour stop at each destination.
Any objections speak now.
That could ease things nicely - I can still do the other stuff sat - and join you all on the sun for the east side part :D
Firstly this is not an objection just a suggestion(s).
It may be that we could extend the route (or combine both) in the knowledge that only a few will do the whole trip. I think with regular stops (the duration of which may have to be less to fit it in) 300+miles in one day is not out of the question. This based on the antics of the euro trips and Steve W's Elvington jaunt etc.
I'm just that for it to be more 'Gumball like' i'm in favour of a higher % of driving time.
I can't really see many people being able to do both days (especially at shortish notice) and so an extended version of the one day to maybe 8am - Til late pm (if you wanted to do the whole route) may appeal more to people.
maybe i'm wrong on the above and maybe the extra miles would spoil it, i don't know, perhaps we should start at the lower end and see how it goes...............
All just my thoughts, speculation and opinions

All just my thoughts, speculation and opinions Scooter, please don't think I've ignored what you've said, but as the forum was down I had no choice but to continue with my original plan of two days as we're running out of time for people to get prepared. :(
The total miles for both days is currently around 330 miles, but don't forget you also have to allow for people travelling to/from the start/end points. That could easily make it a 500 mile trip which is why I wanted to split it into two days. I'm a 120+ mile a day person so it wouldn't bother me driving loads of miles, but I also have to be resposible and remember that driving is tiring and I'd hate for anyone to have an accident cause they were driving tired because they wanted to do the whole trip. So I thought it best to spilt this event and then we can decide what to do for the next one depending on how well this one goes.
I have added a bit to my web site detailing the intended start/end points, stops, basic routes and overview maps. All the details you should need can be found here. (http://www.lee-mawby.net/mkivsupra/Overview.htm)
Hopefully the places choosen will provided plenty of oppotunity for photos to be taken. Jive, you'll also notice we go pretty close to Brighton, and could go right through it with a little detour from the route. :D One thing I have to check is the opening time of the first pub on Saturday, which I will do tomorrow and let you know. Something I haven't done yet is plotted Shell garages that are on the route. I'll get this done soon.
Well I hope the line-up is acceptable to everyone and I look forward to seeing everyone on the days. I'll also try and get the word out that the stops can be used as a local meet for people interested in meeting up with us but not with doing the actual gumball.
Thanks for everyones support in this event. :)

Ok is it time to start a list of names going then? and is this the place to do it, or do we want another thread?

Well done mate for sorting out the route, not as much driving as I thought there would be but should be damn good day(s) out.
Good that there's a drive for an hour, break for hour, drive etc, gives us plenty of time to stock up or take a leak etc etc plus get some photos as well

IF Supraguy can't, AND, nobody else can....
I can give you a lift... (to/from, or along route ?? whatever).
I drive like a SLOW-fairy, you'd have to bring yer OWN music
(=stuck in the 80's/90's ! !:werd: )
Me Soops VERY std. lookin' (sorry!) and I'll be dropping food-crumbs
at various times along the way..... ! ! !:rtfm:
BUT, by all means, use me as a 'last-resort'........ ? ?:p
{I'm GOING , so I only need to know by Saturday morning-ish,
makes NO difference - so good last minute back-up ? ?
ONLY stipulation would be you take LOTS of pics/clips and I get
a copy ! ! ! ? ? ?:sly: }
[ps. was you doin' Sat/Sun or both ? ?...I was only doin' Sun 'cos
I'm working Sat morn..........]
FatS.
Steve W- cheers bud! I'm in Surrey, Windlesham this weekend is that anywhere near you? Sunday only sounds cool.... I think I'm working Sat am too. So yeah if SG2 isn't coming out to play then I'd be muchly grateful....I'll bring both memory sticks so plenty of footage (no tape space though so stills n mpegs only...)
Food crumbs not a problem as long as you don't expect me to clean them up....lol
p.s bad move telling me to bring my own music...although I'm sure I could dig out some 80's rock as a compromise :D

I'm up for an early meetup b4 Boxhill - 11:30...where exactly?? :sly:
Junction 6 off the M25, theres a reasonable sized Shell garage on the road to Godstone.
I'll be starting at Box hill too.
Scanning the list of names it looks like the majority of people are from the east and that this is their first stop, so if your going to the first meeting point and there's not many around don't worry, just get yourself to box hill for noon.

Faye - would that be the A22 Godstone route - I'll be coming down from Croydon coming on to the M25 at J7, if I come off at J6 do I just come straight off onto the A22 heading for Godstone?

Hi all....
Would like to pop along and have a look (and hear) on Saturday, possibly meet at Stonehenge and finish at Haynes.
Two questions.....
1, As we are in our mid 40s are we going to look like your grandparents keeping an eye on the kids ?
2, As I need my licence and I'm currently "point free" (that's done it) I don't usually go over the point when I would get banned if zapped ! - are you all going to leave us behind - sorry to be so boring.
Hope it goes ahead, the sight will be great.
PS. The back road from Stonehenge to Longleat (through Chitterne) is brill, I do it every Friday, unfortunately not in the Soop.

G Having just glanced at peoples profiles the age range seems to be between 22 and 33 so far, but don't let that put you off! If you drive a Supra then you'll be welcome at the meet - simple as that! :)

Me neither. I'll happily cruise at 80 between the destinations as I wont be familar with a lot of the roads. (Unless of course I need to teach a BMW driver he doesn't own the BMW lane! :D )
Come along! You'll enjoy it!

Hi there,
Welcome to the BBS.
1) Ages on this BBS range from teenagers to 60+ but I think the average is 30-odd roughly.
2) Depends on the individuals involved in the convoy. The idea is more to meet up at the next place than travel in a convoy the entire way, which means you're free to make your own time there. We have about an hour in each place, so you should be able to make it without trouble. Saying that, I rarely do more than 30 over (=instant ban), but it depends on who is about on the day. I can't speak for everybody, but I think most people will tend to stick together at 'sensible' speeds anyway.
Hope to see you there :)

I didn't know if you would be going warp speed all the way !
But if you are only going to go "sensible speeds" I'll bring my Volvo and leave the Soop at home !!
Carefull on the road between Haytesbury & Crockerton (nice big Warminster by-pass) the they have had lists of 100 plus catches in the local paper for weeks.

Hi and welcome to the board :)
Have to ask, if you've got a Volvo and a Supra and know full well that there will be a load of Supras there, then why bring the Volvo?
Plus there's not that many Gunmetal Supes so go on, go on, go on, go on, go on.......bring it along :D
You know it makes sense!!!

It's a bit of a BBS policy, and common sense thing - typically whenever we post pictures of our or other people's cars, we digitally remove the number plates from the pictures.
You never know who's reading what :)

Ashley, which way are you going on Saturday? Are you starting at Froxfield or joining us later on?
I could meet up with you and cruise up again if you want?
Im only doing the Sunday mate, I already have a near on £200 fuel bill from last weekends Dam trip. Plus the GF works Saturdays and she has been p1ssed off that she hasnt been able to make any lately, so Im on the Sunday one only, sorry dude....
Anyone have a CB radio from previous meets, might be good to bring them along, if anyone has one, or knows somone that has one, it really adds another edge to the crusing around thing.
Plus if 2 of ya go halfs, then its only £30 each, other its £60, but well worth the cost in my eyes.......
Ashley, no worries about Saturday, wasn't sure which day you were going to make :)
CB Radios, where do ya get em from and does it make any difference what make etc etc as I have no idea about those, although I remember millhouse, mawby and me used some on our way down to Lee-On-Solent but they were awful.

Hi and welcome to the forum :)
Glad to see another owner from Southampton :)
We'll be hitting Lee-On-Solent or Stubbington as it is on mawbys site at about 18.30 but we're travelling all over the place during the day, we'll be travelling past Soton before then so you could meet up with us if you like.
Have you got any pics of the car, saw a Silver J-Spec in Soton high street the other day, was it you?
:D
Damn, meant to say check mawby's site here for a list of places we'll be with directions of where and what time we'll be there/leaving :D
Gumball Overview (http://www.lee-mawby.net/mkivsupra/Overview.htm)
Sounds like the same ones, as Millhouse was using his one on the Dam trip, we all had similar. Except they are very hard to hear if people dont talk clearly and slowley, as we found out, but once you slow down and talk instead of mumbling, you can hear fine. I thought they were really usefull, especially when the group gets split up and they dont know where you headed.
Ah right, well when we used millhouses ones, they worked for about 5 mins and that was only just about, heard an odd voice here and there and then crackle or nothing :(
As for using with the group split up, there was no way these would have worked then, we were only about 100 yards spread out in a 3 way convoy.....
Perhaps he's replaced the batteries ;) :innocent:
Well when we had our convey running at over a ton the cars are probably spread out along one lane for a total distance of a good few hundred feet. It must have been batteries, most people we could hear ok, even we they spoke in their normal mumbling slang, it was people like earth that was hard to hear. We deffinitly mastered it though, because when we first started using them, it was like, WTF, I cant hear sh1t, by the end of the trip, it was 10-4 copy.........it is a laugh....:D

that Argos ad says "304 Channels" ? ? ?
I know I'm WELL out of touch, but, there were only 40 FM CB channels
allowed/available when I used to "Good-Buddy" away the evenings ?
Have they extended the frequencies or 'split' the 40 up ? ?
or are these NOT 'CB' but another FM range ? ?

Subchannels.. for example, on the Amsterdam trip we used channel 05 subchannel 05, it simply allows you to lock onto a very specific frequency so you don't have interference from anybody else using channel 05, etc. CTSS or something I think it's called.

Yes, but everybody would have to use a 'normal' channel (ie, 05 00) instead.
Are many people bringing radios then? Mine hasn't left the car since Amsterdam, I wonder if it's still charged..

They are called PMR446 radios....for the benefit of others...they are more advanced in some ways than CB and are much smaller plus have ring tones and encoded encryption to filter out uninvited coversation...as Ash says they did work really well on the Amstadam trip....I'm not sure how we would have coped without them to be honest.
Also saw them being used on a scene in the Fast n Furious.
They been using them in the States.. (they call them FRS Radios) for some time on the Street Racing and Cruise scene but havent really taken off over here....maybe Us Supras could be the pioneers...and others will follow like sheep.
We have always used Channel 5/5 so far as it is easy to remember for numbskulls like me (Channel 5 CTCSS tone 5) Maybe we should make that our official Supra Club channel.
Don't buy them without Tone Codes though.
Channel 5/5
