Thinking of coming back to the fold

Hi Everyone

I've been a member for almost 3 years and during this time I have had an SZ-R then a BPU TT Auto. I sold my TT 18 months ago through boredom:blush: and currently drive an S2 Elise. I have continued to fantasise about returning to the fold and the lure is getting stronger.

I've not kept up to date with prices / depreciation etc and need some advice. I had my TT serviced by CW and I continue to be obsessed with my cars being "properly" serviced by specialists, having "proper" tyres etc etc

If I sell my Lotus I would have up to £14K to spend. I would want a car that's at least as fast as my old TT, that handles well (been spoilt with the Elise), that's been meticulously maintained, that's not "bling", that has at least UK brakes and that I would not have to spunk a couple of grand on new tyres/ shocks/ remapping etc etc

What's out there and what's good!! I see increasing numbers of Big singles but I have no idea which ones are crap and which ones are well built/tuned. Then there's the idea of getting a late VVTi or maybe ....? :help: I'm confused. What do I do!!!

14k should get you a nice Single turbo A nice one as well

If you were buying a good Single what are main things to look for? Is it the identity of the mapper or the type of turbo or supporting stuff eg fuelling ? I am totally out of my depth here!

Is there anything you would recommend on here or Pistonheads up to 14K that looks spot on? I can see that Chiefgroover is selling a single which look to the untrained eye to be almost perfect but 17K is way too much. What else looks good but cheaper?

Feel free to post links

Thanks

I wouldn't have thought you'd be out of your depth. A couple of hours browsing this site again should get you back to speed with Supras! :D

I know nothing about single turbos myself, but £14k should get you a well set up single

A couple of weeks browsing this site has got me up to date on the latest porn websites etc:p but I'm still pretty clueless on differentiating a good single from a "Happy Shopper" single.

And what about late BPU+ VVTi?

Looks nice BUT I am wary of Tein suspension. Heard a few horror stories when addicted to this site 2 years ago.

Great car and goes like a rocket!!

Don't buy it though as he's my mate and that will mean our relationship is over as he no longer has a cool car!!:(

Not that I'm shallow or anything!!:D

Some of the guys on here are quite useful for that!

Fair enough! Having a completely stock car, I'm not too up to speed with these sorts of things unfortunately.

As for your question on BPU VVTi cars, again, I wouldn't really know sorry! I'm sure someone will be along to help you from a more tehnical point of view though!

you have to seriously consider the fact that a £14k single will give you more hassle and cost more to run (especially if your not a DIY type) than a nice late BPU VVTI.

How much power do you really want need.

My own choice would be a late manual vvti, and i probably wouldn't even bpu it........but thats me

I have a vvti and it wasn;t long before i lusted after the single which is now being done. if you want power buy single and let the expense be someone elses.

with 14k i would research exactly what you want and go to jurgen with a shopping list! he will find you a minter!
