View Full Version : Microsoft Outlook Calendars
In my previous job, all our calendars were linked through the server, therefore I could open someone elses calendar and see where they are supposed to be.
My new company doesn't have this feature, so does anyone know how to set it up? I presume it's something done in each Outlook rather than on the server.
All mostly XP and an NT server.

Yep its normally done through an Exchange server.
The only way to do it is through email - you set up an appointment and then add one of your contacts through "Invite Attendees" - this emails them a copy and they can add it to thier calender.
You wouldn't be able to see where they are though at any given time unless they send you a copy of everything they do and add it to your calender.
Gaz.
Exchange Server would have been doing the work, what version of exchange are you running?

Mav - he mentioned in his first sentance that he's moved jobs - so his new place doesn't have it I imagine :)

S'right. There is a server running, that includes a mail server. How do I find out if there is an exchange server and what version it is?

Ask the server admin ;)
we run exchange 2k at work. all our users are members of a "shared calendar" group in ad. all we do, once their outlook profile is setup, is click on calendar, click on open a shared calendar, enter the persons calendar you want to view and hey presto! but like gaz said, its a setting on exchange, not sure where but it will have something to do with AD too. let us know how you get on ;)
edit: forgot to add, we also their calendar for the shared calendar group. (see post below)
Generally the person's calendar you are trying to view, that person will have to go into their calendar properties and give you a certain level of permission, be it read only or editor type permissions if they want you to be able to add/remove items that you or they have created.
I'll ask tomorrow, but in the last place we could add dates into each others calendars, for group meetings etc.
Ask about public folders, that'll do the job. or if you have an SPS server that will also intergrate into Outlook. or use Outlook delegation, which will also do it (and you dont even need to logon to the server for that one)
Ah, tis not an exchange server. They are looking at getting a new server shortly. Bang goes my chance to be the new-boy whizz-kid (vicariously by stealing the knowledge of the Supra IT crowd)
