Havard
Someone with a huge brain will be a long shortly to offer help!! What is your budget for a car? Are you looking for a manual or an auto. Oh and there is nothing wrong with the imports! The Uk spec was higher with leather seats and bigger brakes etc but UK's are getting harder to come by and you'll pay for it too! The guide on the main page should tell you most of what you need! Oh and the fuel and economy are not usually in the same sentence!! LOL H. Havard
got about 8.5k to play with but want a manual Oooh!! UK manual in sub 10k shock!! Think you might struggle! They hold their price as there are not many left now mate. There are plenty of good J-specs about. Most have been upgraded to level or beyond the uk spec anyway!! Have a good look through the for sale section on here or Pistonheads/Autotrader. Don't go on e-bay or to Blackburn and you should be ok!! H. s3upra
J spec ceramic turbos spool up quicker than uk ones, Dont discount the auto box on uk or jspec-they are very very good. The brakes ARE better on uk cars though(however alot of jspecs have had uk brakes fitted) If not, then fitting decent pads etc can improve things to a level good enough for the road(for most mere mortals anyway) Good luck. Guest nabzy2005
will the ceramic turbos cope with added boost , and how reliable are they opposed to steel ones
s3upra
will the ceramic turbos cope with added boost , and how reliable are they opposed to steel ones Yes they will cope with added boost (though will probably reduce turbo life-as with all turbos). However anything over 1.2 bar will be like a grenade with the pin pulled-i.e. its gonna go bang you just dont know when. As for reliability compared to uk ones-The ceramic ones are more prone to extensive damage if hit by anything(spark plug electrode etc) However as there are fewer uk car owners on this forum we tend to hear of more jspec failures than uk ones. Homer
Where about's in Berkshire are you? If you can make it along to the Reading meet this Tuesday you can meet a great cross section of the Supra owners club (From NA's, to big singles). We have a great bunch of lads who meet up every month; come and say hello, we're a nice crowd
Nic
There were only around 600+ UK spec Supra ever sold in the UK, a number of these have been written off, and a percentage of these are autos, so it doesn't leave very many to choose from. Ignore what you have heard about the J-spec Supras, yes they have ceramic turbos, which makes them lighter and faster to spool up. If properly set up a J-spec can reliably run up to 1.2bar. Have a read of these and other threads in the FAQ section to learn the basics. http://mkivsupra.net/vbb/forumdisplay.php?f=
