Had a fabulous day out looking at old aircraft, aircraft engines and cold war missiles, not something I realised I was into until I went. Anyway, pics slowly uploading (LOTS of them) at:

Duxford?
I was addicted to aeroplanes as a kid. Never lost the bug, and there are two planes that have the same affect on me as a beautifully designed car or boat. The Spitfire Mk XVIII and the Mustang P51C/D. Absolutely beautiful and timeless design.
is that duxford? went there years ago, bugged my parents for ages, that place was great, would like to check the one out in *farnborough?* one of my fav old aircraft are the - B-29 Superfortress

Anyone going to Fairford then ? Should be a great year with hopefully the Vulcan flying again :) which has got to be amongst my fav's. along with the Mossie and the Lanc.
I had a cunning plan the other week, why not turn the BBMF into the RAF Memorial flight and increase it's numbers to aircraft from other conflicts too, and kinda maybe shove in concorde too ;)
Certainly am Chris. That was my ambition, RAF pilot, but still hoping to go into the RAF as an Officer in a ground based role.
Been to most of the airshows in the UK actually, especially last year. Fairford is always a good one. Sadly the Battle of Britain At Home Day at RAF Leuchars isn't on this September due to runway resurfacing - that's an absolutely stunning show.
Will be going to the Waddington airshow in late June/July.
Favourite aircraft of all time, well that's a no brainer.

Now that would be a sight, to see the Vulcan up again. My favourite memory of bygone airshows.

Great for you mate. The lad opted for RAF intelligence branch. Unfortunately they took so long processing he got fed up and gave the idea up. Shame.
So be patient mate.
Cosford, Shropshire and Duxford now on visit list. :)
Hendon was a great experience.
Yep Andy, the process is very long winded. 3-day assessment coming up to assess my suitability as a solider (RAF Regiment is my chosen branch, with Fighter Control 2nd and Intelligence 3rd ;) ), then a number of interviews and the Officer Assessment at Cranwell. Got to do all of this by the time I'm 25 which is in November as that's the cutoff date!
Sorry to hear about your lad mate, it's damn frustrating at times.
wicked, looks great. Am hoping to make it to Duxford this year for the Flying Legends show.
Havnt been there for years, but Duxford had a V Bomber that my grandad help build/maintain.

Joshing bud. Good luck to you. :)

If anyone does go to Fairford, can they try to get me a Typhoon flying display programme? I did the graphics for the display, and no-one ever thinks to send me a copy :(
I very much doubt you'll ever see Concorde flying again all the British ones were put beyond flight (I believe) there was some UK secret technology still on Concorde which had to be removed once they were decommissioned. Nice idea though.

I found this site a while back looking for quality large scale Spitfire models.

Kind of knocked the wind out of my sails, a 1:5 scratch built one that took 12 years. Fantastic:)
If anyone is ever in weston super mare theres a helicopter museum just off the M5. I went and it bored the life out of me but so did duxford, Just not my thing.

Gah! Where's your soul?

DP..
Woo, I'd have loved to seen that Komet in real life.

I used to work on planes and after a while its just another plane.
Although the copter museum had no planes (not that i can remember plus its a copter place ;) ) i think me and a few friends were the only ones under 75.
Looks great, I'm going to have to haul my ass up there soon (I don't have much excuse not to really do I?)

Wow, that took me right back to my childhood. Thats the BAC TSR
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TSR2
(yes I googled it but recognised the shape). I had a large plastic toy of this when I was about 6/7 in the mid sixties. Way ahead of its time apparently, but got canned....

Yep TSR2, awesome thing, Wilson canned it if I recall properly :( The Yanks wouldn't do a deal on something if we went ahead with it.

Mate, I work quite with the Fighter Control branch. Its probably the complete opposite to Regiment.
Most postings you are stuck in a bunker for 12 hrs a day (no windows etc). You do have a chance to fly on the AWACS, but in all honesty if its soldiering you want, FC would not suite.
If you do get it I'll see you at RAF Boulmer!!

The problem with that is BBMF only have one hangar!
It is a great place to go.
There is the Sunderland air show coming up soon. For those that can brave the hostile NE weather!

Spent a couple of years there doing technical training. Great place and well worth a visit.:)

Ah wonderful cosford. Did a flying visit there for a couple of technical courses. Early failure detection being one of the most mind numbing (first job I've done where the job was ultimately more interesting than the training) and jet turbine engine testing (this one was cool as I was working on turbo-shafts not jet turbines and theres something more exhiliarating about hoofing thousands of Lbs of thrust down a tube pointing at the sky than sitting looking at a dyno that wedges out lots of steam)
I remember going to Duxford years ago and from what I recall it was a bigger place than cosfords museum and had some very good stands. The 3 aircraft I remember from there were the origional wooden tailed concorde, the vulcan (that we had as a flypast at our passing out parade from Swinderby, the tornado's the week before were no-where near as impressive even though there were 3 of them), and the TSR2. I recognised that picture before my pc screen had scrolled halfway down it. We built that aircraft back in the 60's on our own. Nowadays we have to rely on 20 banana brained european states with elections every ten minutes and back pedaling like you wouldn't believe just to put into service ten years too late an aircraft thats so out of date we may as well scrap it. The MK3 chinook is still sitting in storage, in fact one hasn't even been painted yet just left in primer. The RAF is just a dismal shadow of its former self. Its a testament to the perseverance of the guys and gals that have stayed on really. Professionalism in the RAF far outweighs that of every single airforce in europe, and now working for another one and working with people that have worked with the rest its reassuring that our is actually ackowledged as the most disciplined and rescourcefull.

As a lad I literally lived at the bottom of Biggin Hill airfield, and was well into planes, used to watch all the air shows for free, could even just walk into the airfield from the back of my garden, used to watch the predecessors of the modern formation teams, they used Hawker hunters and I think they where called the Blue Diamonds? like the underside pic of the Lightning, one of my favourite planes along with the V bombers, and the pic of the little jet/rocket powered Messerschmidt:cool:
