View Full Version : Twitch and Tyres
Hi Guys,
Just going home from work today, accelerating quite hard (in a straight line, traction control on, manual), and noticed the car twitching to the left on every gear change.
Anyway, a little later, had a rear blowout on the dual-carriageway. Need a new pair of 265/35/18 rears now! Good job they aren't expensive (!!!!!!!).
Anyway, I was wondering what you guys thought of the twitching - do you get it, or might there be problem somewhere. Do you think this might be related to me losing a tyre?
Right - i'm off to look in these forums for tyre recommendations.
Keep it safe guys.
start with the basics and check your tyre pressures

Not heard of this problem before.
As Gavin said check pressures, it sounds like one of your rears lost pressure and over heated.
mine was real twitchy when i got it.had a 4 wheel geometry done ,sorted now,it had loads of neg camber b4 to help turn in,& help the 275/35/18's clear the arch'si was told, but its much better on standard settings,& the tyres dont rub.

I assumed this was the first time this had happened to your car.

I'd say the rear tyre pressure was low too, causing it to blow out on the carriageway.........i had a partly deflated tyre a while back, but didn't notice it as the tyre was low profile, car felt i bit 'strange' on the way home, luckily i checked pressures and found it as the tyre didn't appear nearly flat. Hi guys,
Thanks for the replies. I hope it was just the tyre pressures.
Sorry if this reply is crap - making it on my XDA from Glasgow - been watching the Foo Fighters and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Anyway, think i'm gonna get some Toyo's fitted, so i'll obviously get the pressures checked. Could also get a 4 wheel alignment done - are the garage likely to know the settings for the supra, with my 18's on?
Thanks again for the help.

are the garage likely to know the settings for the supra, with my 18's on? Unlikely, but if you use the SEARCH facility on this site you'll get the info you need.

Use the alignments specs of a guy called Lance in the tech section of www.mkiv.com
check out www.blackcircles.com for tyres 265/35/18 Toyo PROXES £176.21 inc vat & delivery
Ordered the Toyo's from Pro Alloys - £152.50 each - should be here on Thursday.
Believe it or not, Kwik-Fit were so close to being competitive. I phoned them for a price to fit them for me, and thought i'd get a quote for the tyres just for a laugh. After checking, he said they would be £163.99 each, including VAT and fitting. However, he said that his supplier would only sell them if they were standard for the car - what's that all about??? Anyway, when he went back to them to try and get them, he said they were out of stock, and didn't know when they'd be back in stock. They can be as cheap as anything if they haven't got them in stock!
I'm loving the space saver at the moment - looks the tits, and keeping it below 60 is easy (!!!!) - my fuel economy is probably great though!
Having problems finding a place that will do 4 wheel alignment for me. Anyone any ideas near Keighley/Skipton?
