Trig
locks the front wheels, so the rears can spin and warm up when drag racing
supragold
are the line locks expensive and hard to fit? Around the £100 mark mate. Not sure on fitting yet as I haven't fitted mine cause I'm waiting on loads of other parts. Looks easy enough. Get one that has the lines already made up for the Supra and jobs a good'n. AndyT
locks the front wheels, so the rears can spin and warm up when drag racing Thanks. Heard of this under some other name and didn't relate. Seems a really good idea for us auto guys, doesn't it..
dangerous brain
Do they come with stainless lines as well? If so I may get a set for my car instead of a high stall lol.
Homer
Do they come with stainless lines as well? If so I may get a set for my car instead of a high stall lol. I'm pretty sure all kits require hard copper brake lines chopped into the stock system. The Hurst kit certainly does, I believe the line lock itself is some sort of solenoid that when activated stops the brake fluid being directed to the rear brake lines. Personally I'd rather have a hard fitted kit like the Hurst one, purely for reliabilty and safety. It's very much tried and tested and used by most of the pro's stateside (and probably here too). It's only good for the burnout though, it won't help raise the rev's off the line in an auto.
dangerous brain
OK now I am not understanding the principle. AFAIK the linelock just locks the fluid pressure in the front brakes when the brakes are let off on the pedal to enable the rear wheels to power up independent of the front wheels moving. It will perform the secondary task of allowing the revs to rise on an auto beyond the box stall as the box won't be stalling due to the transmission of power to the wheelspin, surely a simple de-selection of the line lock and the car will wheelspin away just as if it was a manual in wheelspin. RobSheffield
Brian, as Homer said, it just stops the front wheels turning. An auto tranny WILL reach its stall speed and boil up the fluid. To make the most of an auto on a single you need a torque convertor and ideally built box and coolers.
Homer
Although your front wheels will be locked, it won't effect the point at which the torque convertor starts spinning the wheels. For example - you're sat at the line with the front wheels locked, you try to raise the engine rpm to 4krpm, the stock convertor kicks in at 2.2krpm (I think) so, once you go past that rpm the rear wheels will start spinning. Obviously then you'll be sat at the start line with spinning wheels so will get a bad launch. In order to get maximum torque off the line your torque convertor should be matched to release power to the box at your peak torque power. On most drag supra's this will be 3800-4200 rpm (serious drag cars might be higher).
