driving home tonight nice cool air open road i decided to give it a bit of WOT, boost gauge was reading around 1.2 bar and all of a sudden i heard a very loud POP and i lost all power. the car is sounding like an old banger ! thoughts of melted sparkplugs and blown turbos run through my mind  i pull over and open the bonnet, from the bang i expect to see oil and bits everywhere, but there is nothing, i start to check all the air induction pipes and the one that goes into the plenum (sp?) chamber has poped off, i give a large gasp of releif and limp home to fix it back on.

i thought this would be the end of it but later on i went for another run and it happend again ! i thought it would be because i had not put the pipe on tight enough but when i looked it had popped of at the other end of the same pipe. now this could just be a coincidence but it seems unusual for them to have never done this before but to do it now in the space of 3 hours. the only thing i noticed was oil residue all over the inside of this pipe, is this normal ? or maybe this is whats lubricating the pipe so it can pop off ?

Make sure the pipe is clean from all dirt oil. Then reassemble using a Mikalor clip. These can be brought from Demon Tweeks.

You can use hairspray to may the pipes grip more, or like Dude, just to get your best John Travolta hair do.

Good luck.

I had a problem recently with a leaky vacuum pipe - basically, the pipe was old and knackered and just not gripping the bit it slides onto (excuse the description) tightly enough due to expansion. Might be a similar kind of thing?

thanks for the ideas. you have backed up what i thought, i have cleaned all the joining parts with mild thinners and done the clips up with a ratchet insted of a screwdriver, just took it for a full boost run and all seems well :D it just seems strange that both ends popped off in one night

I was on my way down to pick up a new HKS FMIC......Toed it onto the m/way hit 1.2bar no probs, floored it a few miles later and Wallop!...loud pop no power and black smoke from exhaust...
My heart sank lower than the Titanic..........Quick call to my main man Justine (Torque IC) and found the pipe by the battery leading up to the plenum had popped off.... !/2 hour later back on route....
Picked up new FMIC from Justine and went to mate3s to fit.

This was the first time anything like that had happened.....do you think the old IC new it was being dumped?...:p

Anyway 6 1/2 hours later a new FMIC in place, took for a test run 140 leptons and 1.25 bar POP one of the original pipes fronm the turbo side came off..........Two in one day......:baa:

New FMIC now working its stuff........
