Right guys

got myself a new job sorted out and am on the lookout for a car to replace the taxi i've been using for the past six months.

Unfortunately I don't want a Supra this time around because, well it just wasn't practical enough (need to transport mountain bikes and kayaks whether it be on the back or on a roof rack).

I've budgeted up to £5k. Preferably to be capable of taking 4 people and not have too bad road manners as the missus will just moan

so...what can you suggest? :eyebrows:

no worries mate, i'll keep my eyes peeled for them.

now back up in Glasgow with my new job so hopefully get along to one of the meets soon :) (even if it's not in a supra!)

Good news mate!
S4? ITR? Impreza Wrx?

S4's are nice but not many around that price mark. Also heard stories about the manifolds cracking at high mileages which is an engine out job for replacing it? :search:

ITR looks great to me and I'd be really interested in one if i found the right car.

Imprezas are great but the downsides are too many of them, owned by chavs and lastly...insurance seems steep on them because of the chav part / stealability.

Fu*k it! Buy Supra mate. For £5k you can find nice SZ or SZ-R if you are lucky...
ITR are very nice. I had one in the past. I was very pleased.

Legacy Twin Turbo estate and enough left over to make it more personal - £3500 for the car, £1500 for bits.

Or you could buy my 1.8GL Legacy for £500 and spend £4500 on something silly.

Impreza (expensive to insure?)
Legacy TT
EVO (even more expensive to insure than Impreza)
Aristo

Not a huge fan of the colour, however mileage is good and car is standard, so thats a bonus... Having owned an impreza sometime ago, they are great cars, never had any major issues with mine, and engine was going strong, even on sh!te SA fuel.

Lots of space in the wagon as well, also comes with roof racks, standard and can easily mount a bike rack etc...

EDIT - not a fan of that shape legacy, but the newer ones look awesome!

what kind of mpg did your impreza return?

20-ish?

probably not... :(

+-450kms to a tank, which is 55litres (including reserve) driving on the motorway and off boost I got 550kms a couple of times. However driving like a hooligan @255kmph I got 177 to a tank.

Really comes down to how you drive it... I also had an exhaust and induction kit, which pushed the fuel usage up, as the boost went up.

That's pretty much what I figured.

Not sure about the Aristo now as I've remembered they're all autos unless i wanted a conversion done (not likely on my budget).

So we now have:

integra
impreza
evo IV

M3
Audi A3 T
Golf Gti / VR6
Soarer TT
406 V6

Ian W

M3

Not bad. bit common and possibly out of my price range?

Audi A3 T

not enough fun although a good allrounder.

Golf Gti / VR6

same as A3.

Soarer TT

same practicality issues as the supra, inability to carry roof rack (oh the shame)

406 V6

It's french.

selling this if your interested not jap but carries 4 people no probs 170bhp and nice sounding engine, handles lovely round the twisties too. (then with the spare cash you could go out and buy yourself something fun to thrash about in like a Mk3 turbo manual supra) (hope i havent just sworn mentioning the older brother of the supra on this site :P )

Fek it, dude why dont u get a another Soop. Your only going up to Giffnock, MPG will be good. And just ditch the bikes and Canoe's.

Plus side is there will be 2 soops sitting outside, haha.

Impreza isn't as bad to insure as you'd think. Have a look on Scoobynet for some recommendations, obviously much better if you get a UK one.

You can also pick up one that has been family owned because they want to space. The stealability thing is usually the same as the Supra, they break into the house to nick the keys so no worse than before really. The reason they are stolen is because they are fast, handle superbly and you get get 5 big blokes with baseball bats in one so loads of room for you and your mates biking!

Loved my wrx and now looking for a P1. Wee brother bought a scooby wagon the other week and it handles even better than the saloon in my opinion.

If you can get over the whole image thing then a fantastic motor.

PS, MPG on the motorway we got up to 30 taking it easy but daily commuting was 23 for me.

Insurance was a few quid more than a Supra N/A but not much difference.

03 WRX Wagon. Got it because we might need to get a wheelchair in the back.

Newage so understeersa rather than oversteers but tons of grip and very fast off the line. Not as hot at rolling speeds but four wheel drive has meant zero traction issues.

Just make sure it has been serviced and hasn't been over modded and it should be fine.
