What do you use to clean the metal parts of your engine? (not blinged)

What do you guys use to clean the normal metal parts of the engine, I dont have a bling engine bay just dirty metal and I wondered what people use to clean it as thats tomorrows task.

i use a special grease i will try to get the name of it for you;)

cheers gaz , if its mucky , ill use a citrus degreaser , its called virosol, plus a lot of elbow , and fiddling , wear gloves if you treasure your hands .

then i use autoglym supersheen , trigger it all over and wipe off .

results of above said process

So elbow grease is still involve.

Might have to pop to halfords for some of that supersheen, because that is very clean all over and looking good.

dont think youll get it at halfords its a trade product , .

elbows are essential , oh and a lot of patience

He's young his elbows will be upto the job, and his wrists shouldn't give him any gip either. Highly developed I've heard.

TFR and a high powered pressure/steam cleaner

Then go to it with the gunk and wirebrush then more washing but the only way you will get 100% clean look is sandblasting.

i Tried some T-cut metal polish today and wasn't that impressed

I did a rather oily 106 derv engine today - decrease and wash off - carb cleaner on some of the stubborn makrs - tried a bit of wet sanding which helped - then metal polish to clean it up

Degrease spray if really bad, wipe down.

Mix in a small spray bottle:

-50% windshield wiper fluid

-50% Armor all dash spray or other shine spray

-Shake, spray down the engine bay after you have the car clean but take care near the windshield. Wipe off overspray with distilled water in separate spray bottle and cloth.

++++DO NOT spray near your belts.

-Wipe off excess

-Over time, you'll be pleased.

Autosol for metal parts. Combination of autosol + Cable Porter machine helped me to find out, that back box of my exhaust is stainless steel and VERY shiny

In-Excess in Ashley Rd are selling engine degreaser for about £1 a litre spray bottle at the moment. I can't remember the name right now, but it's from a well known household name.
