View Full Version : Whifbitz sponsored Supra in TimeAttack
Anyone attending the TimeAttack/EDC events at Silverstone this weekend will see a Supra competing in the club class TimeAttack....
It's taken some patience and hardwork ( and help from Rob Barnes ) to finally achieve this, but my Supra will be hurtling around Silverstone on Sunday :D :D
... with sponsorship from Paul at whifbitz I'll be there along with the Whifbitz drift and timeattack cars.
More details to follow ....
I just hope the weather clears up!

Actually I've just realised I entered the first time attack as well, that was GT Battle at Rockingham wasn't it? I did 1 lap and parked it up for the day, wheel spinning the whole way round the track, it was totally pointless!
Weather report is looking pretty shite for Sunday at the moment, bugger.

he was 11 i think in the end.
Yep that sounds about right - looked to be running well some strong competition!
Also big well done to Whifbitz team - both the T/A car and Drift cars did well.
Hi guy's
just a quick update, as I'll try to put some pics up later and I'm sure Paul will update as well...
Tony in the drift RX came 4th - which was an excellent result
Daz came 7th in the time attack pro - which was excellent as well.
The competition for all of us was very strong - Daz's qualifying was very tight - only 1 second seperated the top 10 cars !
I had some setbacks due to an engine blowup on track at the start of the second practice session, so only managed to get 12 laps of practice!!
he was 11 i think in the end.
...sorry I couldn't spend more with you mate, we were trying to get the car out for practice just as you turned up!
- nice to meet you though :)

Alright geezer, was a great day wasn't it. A very busy one for me, sorry I couldn't spend more time on your car Steve, all I did was steal a jubilee clip off it I think. Oh and offer to make it flame out more!
4th place for the drift car was amazing, I wasn't expecting that at all with the way things have been going lately(fire damage 2 weeks ago!) Ran faultlessly all day, got plenty of more ideas for it to make it work better as well.
The Time Attack car was also going much better, we've managed to close right up on the front runners now. Like Steve said there was only about 1 second covering the top 10! At the last round we were about 5 seconds off the pace so the car is improving fast. We haven't done any testing between the last round and Darren has never driven Silverstone before so I think finishing 7th was a top result for us. Again plenty of ideas for this car to make it go that bit faster.
Both of these car were driven to the circuit, had the arse cained off them all day and driven home with no problems what so ever, just shows you how reliable RX7's can be when built properly.
Steve also did very well considering he's never done Silverstone before which is quite a daunting circuit being so fast, and his car is very much a road car, well done to you as well mate, plenty more to come from you in the future.
Big thanks to everyone helping out in the pits, Dazza, Peter P, Steve, Steve's dad, JD, Jonnie and Tony. And a huge thanks to the pit girls wandering around and sitting on the cars, helped us through the day nicely!
I'm over the moon about all of it, next step is the podium!

Oh and if anyone has any pictures or videos, please stick them up on here, I didn't have time to take any at all!
I took more than 500 photos - I'm sure there'll be one or two there of interest! ;)
I just need some time to sort them out.
I didnt catch all the time attack but what I saw the supra did very well. And well done also to Tony in the drifting.
Was an absolutely brillant day with excellent results in all 3 disciplines IMHO.
Was a pleasure to help out in the pits for the day and the offer to haul any spares etc to events for you Paul is there subject to negotiation! ;) :d
Huge respect to Tony, Dazza and Steve who all worked hard and made some impressive improvements throughout the day.
Was always fond of the Rex but seeing the two of them at full tilt has made me want one more than ever!!!! :d
Anyone who gets the chance should try to get along to see these beauties compete and you may get to see Dazza trim the grass at that circuit as well!!!!!! ;) ;) :d
Must say following you both back to the workshops gave me a fair idea what a squadron of Messerschmitts must have sounded like back in WWII!!!!! ;) Although the noise under load was awesome!! :)
Take care guys, a gr8 day albeit a late one!!! :d
Pete
Oh and if anyone has any pictures or videos, please stick them up on here, I didn't have time to take any at all!
Had great fun mate, hard work but deffo worth it.
No worries on the 'service' - everyone has their job to do, your's was managing your sponsors etc ;)
Theres definately more to get out of the car ( and me )... needs some setup time like we discussed.
Daz and Tony's comments and help were superb - I don't think I'd have been anywhere near the mark without them. The circuit demands a hell of a lot of commitment!
Thanks to PeterP as well, he was a superb support car and pit man for me during the day.
... couple of taster pics , shows the fun we had on and off the circuit ! - unfortunately reducing them in size doesn't do them any justice :-))
( full set of 'private' pics in the post  )
.... and now the compressed version

That it was and must say am dissapointed with the results.
Given the time the crews spent in the pitlane and the footage they used I thought it was pretty boring!
Really think they could do a million times better and I'd happily offer some ideas if anyone would listen!
For a start how about showing us all the drivers/ cars competing?! Imagine a GP where you only see the top 5 cars and you get my point!
Also why not educate with some technical expalantions of what makes these aftermarket cars and the parts used to get the results.
Think interviews are good but not the same guys EVERY time.
Last moan, how is it that Ron Kiddell aka Winner of TOTB Arabia gets club status and not Pro class?!?!?!?! :search::blink:
Seems a bit of a Michael Schumacher scenario IMHO.
Bad day by the way as stayed up till midnight to watch a dissappointing program on tv! :(

Is there a particular reason the Blitz sticker is upsidedown?
Are you making a statement?
Otherwise, nice pictures.

Hardly refreshed, spent all week running around after my 2 little ones! And it pissed down all week more or less. Played golf for the 1st time in 2 years though which was nice. Unfortunately it was in hurricane conditions! And one of the hardest courses in the country! Good fun though.

Was a sign mate! ;) You aren't allowed a holiday as there are too many Supe's needing the Whifbitz magic touch! :d
Weather was crap@y here as well and having my own ankle biter I know what you mean about the running round after them! :d
Golf eh! Didn't know you played as bit partial to a game myself (got some clubs at Christmas).
Have to play a game sometime.

I love a bit of golf mate, used to play 2 or 3 times a week before the kids popped out, got down to a 6 handicap towards the end. My brother is a pro as well which helped me a bit playing with good players. He's up in Scotland at the mo qualifying for the British Open, I hope he gets in, did it a few years ago and it was the best week of my life let alone his! We had passes to go anywhere we wanted, I sat there next to all the top golfers eating lunch. When we were on the practise area, on one side there was Nick Faldo and the other Tiger Woods, the whole thing was sureal.
What do you play off? Or are you talking about crazy golf? :innocent:

Cheeky sod! ;):d
Am still very much an amateur think they gave me a 12 handicap last time I played.
By no means a demon but like getting out on the course and spending a day in the sun preferebly playing a few holes.
You'd destroy me as far as score let's put it that way but i'd enjoy the day regardless as we all start somewhere.

May be you should have had a few other bits removed while you were there!
A little update for peeps.....
Car has had some more prep work done to it, with a new front lower spoiler/splitter and rear wing.
Testing at brands recently went very well, so we're off to Knockhill to try and kick some butt!
Saw Paul/Daz/Tony today, they're all busy prepping the cars for the w/e so hopefully we'll all have a blast competing at Knockhill.
Anyone from here going ??

We appear to be competing with the straight line junkies this w/end as someone said it's TOTB in Yorkshire but may be wrong? :search:
Getting quite excited to be honest as these are wicked events for jap junkies! :d:d:d
... goes without saying mate.. course you're comming.;)
TOTB is on Sunday, so we could pop in on the way back?
The timeattack will be far more entertaining...anyone can drive in a straight line ....:run:

Wanted to go to Totb but I've been away all week not fair on the gfriend:(

I'm the first of the guys to get online by the looks of it! ;):d
Was a bloody long drive back that much I do know but hogging the Supra most of the way back eased the burden somewhat!! :eyebrows: Big thanks to Steve L for the honour and anytime you need a backup driver I'm here m8.
Cars all looked the nuts and it was going great as you say till the heavens opened on us! :( Given the conditions, think it's fair to say we were pleased with all the results and know we have more to come so look out for the next round of EDC and the the final at Brands Hatch which should be awesome!
Well done to Dazza, Steve L and Tony Green for their hard work and ability to cope with some crappy conditions, was a gr8 day but an exhausting one!
Oh and Ron Dennis of course without whom none of this would have happened!! :p:d

Cheers Peter, I've got to say thanks to everyone for helping out. A massive thanks to Phoenix Air Cargo for putting on the food/drink and transportation, without them it would have been hard work getting everything there!
Great weekend considering, got to be about the worst conditions for big power rear wheel drive cars so the boys done good. The 4wd cars had a mahoosive advantage!
Cheers
Ron
Same thanks from me... to PeterP for all the driving/cleaning/lifting/polishing and effort ! and to Pheonix for taking my spare wheels there and back - we'd never have got them in the car and I'd have never got home without them!
Oh , and to Mummy Pheonix for feeding and watering us all day...
due to the weather the question "...anyone for tea?" was one of the nicest things to hear all day ;)
Also, thanks to Ron (aka Paul) / Daz / Tony and Paul for their support and advice during the day, having adverse weather thrown at you can really throw a spanner in the works!
The weather was tragic, especially for us RWD boys... still I managed 5th out of 10 in the 2WD (19th overall ) - not that anyone really states that in the results, but I can't even believe anyone could compare performance of 2WD and 4WD for the day - the 4WD boys we're flying round.
Hopefully next season they'll have better categories and give the club class the same sessions as the pro guys, so at least we have more of a chance to set decent times

There was a castrol supra that turned up, parked near us, and then went without even a hi or bye
some pics from the day... showing the best and worst of the weather!
Hi Steve the castrol supra was mine and i came over and said hi just before you went out on track and asked little boy questions like what power are you putting down and is that at 1.2 bar, also said hi to Paul earlier, nice meeting you guys,oh and the supra was looking and sounding great, cheers,Nige.

Was good seeing you mate and must say your car looked great as well. :)
I think Steve did a gr8 job once again with flying the Supe flag in what turned out to be some very difficult conditions. The car itself as I can testify to is setup superbly and the Tein's and KAD brakes Paul supplied are awesome!
WHEN (not if!) I get my next Supe i'll be looking for a similar setup as it really does make the Supe fly and feel incredibly grounded.
Hopefully the final round will see better conditions and with the testing we did at Brands and the trackday we are doing beforehand, I would like to think Steve and the whole Garage Whifbitz team should be looking for some even stronger results.
Maybe by next season, the setup will be a lot fairer and competitive so we can truly see what these awesome cars can do! ;):d

Looking just as sweet as I remember! ;):d God that shine is awesome!:d:p Top cleanup job! :innocent:
When I think back to the stock looking Supe you had when I first met you mate and what it's transformed into so far (still more to come folks! :eyebrows:), really is a great car.

Ah... so there you are... sorry fella, I remember now...
Didn't realise that was yours. I wanted to have a closer look, but things were pretty busy around the cars - especially the drift RX7!
We had trouble setting up earlier in the day and basically chased our tails all day long.
Hope I gave peeps something to watch... I had a lot of fun out of the hairpin in front of the grandstand
Yeah, didnt want to bother you guys, seen it over in the car park behind the cafe, looked ace, barley seen you out in the track, by the time I had walked from one end to the other (w*nkng over almost everything in 4wheels timeattack orientated) I missed your run! So what where the results, I seen a warm up, you were getting faster at every hairpin ;)

Hi mate, i'm sure Steve will be along at some point to confirm but I believe the best time was a 1.03sec lap on the 2nd warm up session. The actual lap that counted was more due to the swimmimg pool style circuit and the lack of 4WD! ;):d
5th out of 10 2WD competitors was a good result considering but car definetly has more to offer so fingers crossed the weather is good for the last round at Brands.

... managed a 1:03 in the warmup session ( which was my first time on the track ever ), but that unfortunately went south due to the weather!
First official practice ( which started getting wet 5 mins in) and I managed a best of 1:03 again - but I was just getting going when half the track got soaked.
Second session showed a 1:07 with a completely wet track.
Final timed result was a 1:10 in a total downpour !
Excellent fun but not good for the times.... but seeing as thats half the aim of all this we at least had a larf!
One problem we had in the club class was that we couldn't settle into the weather / track too well because we only get 1 timed lap, and the pro guys get 20 mins to put down as many laps as possible.
So if you look at it in terms of pure track time, pro gets another 20 mins to get better times!
(.... gets off soap box )
Hopefully whoever went had a good time even in the wet, I reckon we all did - especially when Tony got out of his car on track after losing third place in the drift finals... that guy's a nutter!
Knockhill round will be on motorstv 31st Aug 19:30 and 23:30...
