Numpty mode I'm afraid (normal I know) :)

I have an oldish Advent 3110 desktop machine

Recently it has taken to emitting a very high pitched two tone alarm. This is continuous and will only stop when machine turned off

Is this associated with internal over heating - seems not to happen when I take off the outer casing?

Wondered if there is any failsafe / battery alarn that I dont know about

Is it time to take it along and get new fan etc

Help appreciated :search:

It's generally the motherboard telling you "something" isn't happy.

MSI 6373 motherboard in that one I think, is there any pattern to the noise?

If that is the right motherboard there is a manual for it here:

It's probably overheating Paul. See if the HSF or PSU are clogged with dust. You may well find that blowing all the dust out works wonders.

(heatsink and fan, power supply)

:iagree: - definitely that

My old Media Centre was doing it and cleaning the dust out of the heatsinks sorts it out.

Otherwise.... well we'll deal with that if needed.....

Yeah, I got a failer recent HP desktop set up as my download PC.

it was starting to sound like a plane taking off whenever anything was being run on it, took the CPU Heatsink of and it was jammed full of dust.
Quick clean and runs silent again.
