Guest Toy Yoda
Hello mkivupra.net! Just joined because I am looking to buy a supra to replace my Honda S2000 (stay Japanese!) as I now have a requirement for 2 big seats and 2 little seats! I found an example on eBay (I know, I know but please bear with me!) and its everything I want: Targa, Black, Twin Turbo and a manual (I believe the last point was not available as an OEM option in this combination...), and I wondered if anyone on this forum had knowledge of this car? Registration mark is XIL 2064, its had some involved work as it apparently started life as a NA Auto Targa, and now its a twin turbo manual... previous owner had it for 6 years, current owner has had it for 6 weeks, but wants to sell it due to cash problems! Its got a cool number plate too! Any help here would be appreciated. I am trying to find a company to inspect the car, any help on that front would also be useful! With Thanks! Guest Toy Yoda
"ant links to this car"? I'm in Bromley! Not exactly supra friendly, but it could be worse!
Havard
"ant links to this car"? I'm in Bromley! Not exactly supra friendly, but it could be worse! There is another link to a thread about this car. Someone was questioning the price as it seemed silly cheap for what it is. It is also in Blackburn!!! I will have a root around and have a good look at this. There are two guys in Blackburn who are shifting dodgy Supra's very quickly at low prices. I nearly fell for one in November! I will find the links and post them up. H. Havard
There you go!! My gut reaction is to steer clear....... http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=111422&highlight=aerotop The e-bay advert states that a reconditioned turbo is £200. I think not!! Plus, who's going to fit it?? H.
CJ
I would steer well clear of this one. Something does not feel right!
Guest Toy Yoda
Its still on Autotrader.co.uk... see the thumbnail From my limited knowledge of car pricing, it seems quite expensive for a 1993 car, but it is in good condition (despite the turbo and the missing glove box lid) and it is a TT 6-speed... I am trying to find a performance specialist who can look the car over. I'm trying to speak to http://www.unit8.co.uk to see if they know anyone in the area, as they are just on the outskirts of blackburn. I don't know anything about it right now, I will call the bloke later today, but it is the only spec I am willing to consider a supra in (bar colour!)! CJ
If the only spec you are willing to consider is a 6 speed TT aero then you could be in for a very long wait - or buy that crock of shit and regret it over the coming months. You pays your money etc
Havard
If I get time. I will go and have a look at it but it won't be in the next week due to commitments!! I feel you have fallen in love with this car and that is a very dangerous thing to do. I have some golden rules. Don't buy a car off e-bay......Don't buy a car from Blackburn and don't buy a car without any kind of history!! 3 out of 3 aint bad! I don't want to too negative but the people on this forum have seen this time and time again. CJ is talking sense (for once) H.
Guest Toy Yoda
CJ, Harvard thanks for the feedback, rest assured I don't jump in with both feet when buying a car. Havard, if you do get a chance to see the car, I would welcome your feedback! I've spoken to the AA about a car check, but they said no because it is a high performance sports car. Fair enough! I also spoke to Unit8 and they recommended that I speak to Hyper Sports & Racing based in Wigan, maybe they would inspect the car for me... doesn't hurt to ask! CJ
I still stand by what I say...that is a car that is not right.

spidermonkey
i would be VERY careful with that as CJ says something isn't right (and CJ knows his cars )
Havard
Toy Yoda, I will be back from Scotland on Tuesday. I may have a nip to Blackburn and ask the guy some questions. H.
Guest Nicholas
Surely if it was a converted n/a aerotop the forum would know about it? or atleast someone would. I'd avoid it.
Homer
This is one of 2 or 3 6spd TT aero conversions, so it's extremely rare. If you are considering this, make sure you get all the details from the VIN plate (and I mean all) so that it can be verfified in one of the decoders. One thing to pay special attention to is the model code as this should determine if it's a 'real' aero or a chop job. Abviously the plate could have been changed so I'd also check additional things like the seatbelt tags to ensure the year matches up. I would also ensure that a full transplant has taken place, ie. the rear subframe, axle, prop, suspension, brakes (inc master cylinder), ecu, etc, etc have been swapped over from the TT. You don't want just the TT engine and box! Also it the interior and engine bay look rather tatty in the pictures, you'd have thought the owner would have made some effort! This is certainly a car you need to take someone with you to view, someone who really knows their Supra's. I'd be very careful with this one! Homer
Ooops, just noticed this bit in the add: "The car was driving ok week ago and one of the turbos isnt working, recondition turbo cost £200 i dont have the time or money to get this sorted. " £200 my a*se! More like £1500 if it needs some new turbo's. It could be something simple like a popped pipe or VSV, but I would not want to buy it if the turbo has already gone - who knows what has gone through the engine
