Do i keep? or sell for a real beast!

Hmm, Im really confused right now! (thoughts needed)

 

After 4 years of pretty much standard ownership ive been able to avoid the tuning bug! till now!

Ive become a "bit" bored with the power! dont get me wrong the stock tt is a very fast car(and still puts a:) on my face everytime i drive her) but i feel i now need something thats an animal! ( all these single vids on here! and jamieP's rev/speedo vid makes me want a really really fast supra:cool: )

 

So ive been planing over the last few months to to get my car bpu'ed then over the next year get some wheels/cw shock setup/ice/ and a few other bits!

 

And as i like to do things to a high standard(the chef in me!) this little lot will cost around 6K:(

 

So im now thinking hmm, i could sell mine, save for 6 months and then put the 6k + whatever i get for mine towards a REALLY nice and well sorted single/big twin car! im sure for that sort of cash i could buy a real beauty!!

 

Im sure i would be happy with mine (with the mods listed) for another 3 years or so, but feel i might want even more power once ive been bpu for a while:eyebrows:

 

So i think the problem is i love my car way too much, and ive never been so attached to something!(sad really) and i love the fact its one of a few!

Red 94 uk TT manual! 70K fsh MINT! almost stock! god i love her!

 

 

But im itching for more power, and i know if i spend 6k on mine then sell in 3/4 years ill loose all the spent money+more due to higher mileage!

But im sure if buy a mint low mileage single/twin then sell in 3/4 years ill not loose so much cash?(and have sooo much fun!)

 

So what do you think i should do? what would you do in my postion? money is not part of the problem, either way it will cost me the same amount! and thats why i cant decide what to do!

 

P.s if mine was not a low mileage uk6, i would deffo go for a single/big twin car! no questions! but i know how rare my car is and love that! maybe i could get a uk6 single/big twin in red or maybe black:search:(could take longer than the 10 months i had to wait to find mine with 42k on her)

I've always felt that the uk supras should be left as they are internally and externally, simply because of the rarety of them, and also i just really like em like that!

 

So i'd go down the road of buying something that has already had the ££'s spent on it

:yeahthat: .... well, the manual ones anyway.

 

Lets face it the manual UK is so rare that it would be a waste to modify it too much. If you're going to really modify it it doesn't matter whether it's a UK or j-spec - so you might as well get a newer J-car and leave the UK for someone else who would appreciate it for what it is.

 

A stock manual UK spec Supra is a future classic.

Why would you specifically want a UK spec big single? The supposed UK spec advantages are not really relevant once the turbos and injectors have been replaced, and the brakes aren't a biggy either.

So wouldn't one of the newer J-specs be an equal/better car?

And they come in nicer colour choices too. (Gunmetal/RSP)

Well 2 years of that i was working on the cruise ships and only had 2 months off every 6! so did'nt drive her enough to get use to the power, and to be honest as it was a great find i wanted to keep her as stock as poss..

Very good point! but i like the rare factor in cars! always have done always will:search: and the uk's will have a proven history and recipts for whats been done!

 

But im sure if i saw a newer mint jspec single for sale then im sure i would be very very tempted! have to say you guys&girls have some lovely cars! lots of very nice examples at supra pod!

I have a different point of view.

 

If as you say, you want everything to a high standard and the money isn't such an issue, personally I would modify the car you have with the parts YOU want.

 

Yes buying a car already modified 'maybe' a cheaper option, but it is also a risk if you don't know it's full history, what has been modified, what parts were fitted, how well the modifications were done, etc, etc. Getting your car modified exactly how you want it is much more satisfying and a safer option if you choose quality parts and a quality tuner to install them.

 

Imagine going to a new restraunt you order what you want, the dish arrives; it may be okay or it may not, either way you'd know how YOU would have cooked it to perfection ;)

Back on track! just looked in your garage jake and have to say WOW thats a VERY nice 2000 model!

 

Now something like this i would deffo buy! love the color,the wheels,the bonnet scoop;) and very nice spec!

 

Did you buy it with this spec if so do you mind me asking how much something like this would set me back?

Also how reliable are well sorted singles? last thing i want is to be spending lots of cash every few months keeping the car on the road!

Very very true nic!

 

The "money not being a problem" bit is based on 6k to spend on mods to mine= nice outcome!

 

OR

 

6k+mine gives me around 18/19k to buy a single, and im thinking i could be buying one of the best out there for that money??

P.s think ive fallen in love with some of the BEST singles on here just wondering if those sortof cars would be in my budget?

TBH £6K will not be enough to 'properly' (ie. fast and everyday reliability) modify a stock car to single turbo. To do the job right you would need a lot of supporting mods and need to budget for around £10K minimum.

 

It is very tempting when you see vids of single turbo Supras tearing up the tarmac and yes they are great fun, but they are not cheap to build or maintain.

 

Personally if I was in your position I would go BPU, I think you'd be very pleased with the results.

Thanks for kind words about my car. I like it (I mean the car, not your words). I don't think it got a mention in the "Nicest Supras" thread the other day. :sulk:

 

I bought it with the single already on but it needed mapping because it had just had an engine rebuild and a few other bits. I paid just under 17k for it but have spent about 2½k getting it sorted since then.

Sadly the old fashioned PHR turbo has failed and I'm waiting for a more modern turbo to be delivered, so the car is off the road at the moment - but it's generally very reliable apart from the crappy state-of-the-ark PHR turbo.

 

As long as a singled Supra has quality components and has been mapped properly (this is the hardest thing) there's no reason it shouldn't be perfectly reliable.

 

Obviously it will eat tyres and clutches and drink fuel but with over 500 genuine (not Thor) horsepower it's bound to.

 

If you want an easy life, or if it's your only transport, don't get a single turbo Supra. They're amazing fun but there's a lot of heartache on the road to getting them just right.

At the moment my supra is my daily driver! but only have to drive 20 miles each way to work and back! and its all on the a12 so just crusing at 80!

 

But realise if i go for a single car i will need to get my run-around back on the road!

 

Out of intrest how many miles do you get to a tank of fuel high/low?? and how do you get a car like that through a mot?

Im sure bpu would be just fine for a while! maybe even enough in the long run but! im thinking about the bigger picture...

I know once at bpu i will also want to lower the car, then some nice 18's, then a decent ice install,then other bits that come with the tuning bug!!

 

So my thinking is for the same sort of money or less i could buy a very spacial car.. ie big ish single, already lowered, big ap brake kit,nice wheels, gauges ect.. something that is already FULLY sorted! and hopfuly a car that is at least 5 years newer!

 

Im now realising that in the long run buying a fully sorted supra will save me lots of money, but im just so attached to my car i will strugle to let it go! and the thought of driving a 1.6 escort for 5/6 months makes me sad too!

 

Umm need to make some sort of choice..

 

Cheers for the help so far guys its been very intresting reading! and looking at some of your cars is deffo tempting me towards a fully sorted beast!

 

Maybe someone can make me an offer on my car one which i cannot refuse, then the decision would be alot eaiser:)

Get another car that has had the work done. A uk spec manual will command the most money as a standard car.

 

Also be aware that cars that have had the work done already quite often need extra work to get them up to standard, especially if freshly imported.
