Help With My EGT Probe

Ok im stumped. Is the sensor just supose to sit in it's mounting piece??
From the first picture below you can see what i have with the sensor, but whatever combination i go with i can get the probe itself to be fitted without it being able to just pull out.

Screw the adaptor into the exhaust runner/turbo wherever, then slide the nut up the sensor, then slide the Olive onto sensor, inset sensor into the adaptor and tighten the nut up, it should then be firm;)

It uses a deformable olive, like reusable plumbing fittings, so until you tighten the top nut firmly it won't crush down onto the sensor. DO NOT overtighten it! Tip should be in the gas stream about 10 mm.
