View Full Version : Help! 1994 clio is dead!
I've killed it. :D
50 yards from my house, the car cuts out, it turns over freely as you would expect it to, but doesn't catch. Any ideas on whats happened?
I guess I'll drive the Supra to work then..........:p
Starter isn't firing through...
If it is turning it means it is getting power, I assume from the description that the bendix isn't going thru..
whats a bendix? [sorry blonde, tired and female]. :D
I've killed it. :D
That dont supprise me, ive seen ya hooning about in it:D
The starter isn't kicking hard enough to push the little cog forward onto the flywheel to turn the engine over, instead it is missing it and just spinning itself..
I don't know what you mean, I drive like a lady! :D

Don't quote me on this, just going with my intrepretation of your description... fancy grabbing a vid clip with sound?
hmmmm that would be useful, can I do that I wonder. If I video it on my phone [transfer it onto my pc] will you be able to watch it on here?
Try this (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v210/sabaker101/?action=view¤t=MOV00188.flv)
Its uploaded off my phone. It may not work
Hmmm, that doesn't sound like starter to me...
Okay, start with very basic troubleshooting, first spark...
Pull a spark plug out, and put a screwdriver or something metal into it, and rest a short gap away from the engine, this should give you a small spark when the engine is turned over..
DON'T TRY HOLD OR TOUCH IT WHEN THE ENGINE IS BEING TURNED OVER OR IF THE IGNITION IS ON

Cambelt as seems to be turning over too quick
OR
Crankposition sensor (which are common to fail, but don't normally make it cut out)
ah okay......plan 2 will be put in motion I think in which case.
I know a friendly garage who fixed my alternator last month. I'll ring them up in the morning and flap my arms a bit. Seems to work. :D
Thanks guys
