View Full Version : Dash Removal
I, like many, want to change the existing double din unit in my MKIV. Can anyone give me a brief description of how to remove the dash without it ending up in a million bits!
Check here under dash removal.

Remove the section around the gear-lever by pulling gently. Remove the top-most section by undoing the screws and unplugging the warning light clusters and hazard switch.
Remove the section around the clocks with the same tugging technique you learned from removing the 1st part. Then all the screws securing the head-unit section should be revealed. Undo these screws and tug again (with that same pulling technique) and undo the attached wiring.
Tip: If you switch the IGN on with the dash panel removed you will get your air-bag light on continuously after it's all put back. To switch it off, see the instructions on the MKIV website. Also, the TRAC switch wiring can sometimes get caught as you replace the panel. This can sometimes distort the switch and throw up spurious TRAC faults. So do make sure the wiring is in the correct place.
Yours,
J
