I think we should do a quick reconaissance trip to Amsterdam..dam..dam..to check where to stay, park etc..

I will aim for the w/end 30th aug.. how does that grab everyone?

We can always gather the full squad n' go strong in September, although we have to discuss the hard choice between the South of France or the DAM :D I know which one i want but as u all know.. we like it when everyone has a say in the decision.. we will take votes.

After speaking to Mish last night he asked my to get your feelings on a slight alteration to the plan. What about going from Friday night (12th) and leaving on sunday (14th)? Still hoping the crossing fair will be the same (£39) but it may be slightly more. Cars would be parked in the hotel in a secure car park. Rokka is gonna be away for a while so think about it and either post or pm your thoughts as he will be looking to book it as soon as he gets back.

I managed to sweeten up a girl with a funny name like mine from the Eurotunnel office n she was brilliant in trying to get us the price down to 59 squid.

Between us guys, if u look at their prices even group buys would only get u a miserable 20% off 197 squid :eek: so i think we are lucky there .. or is it coz i´m better looking than that thing Roy ..heheh.. thats not difficult tho´..

If we are good customers to them any of u guys cud take advantage of this for personal travel in the future.

So there u go Branners.. this site has become a little favoured to the Eurotunnel for group bookings.. so dont say i never gave u anything :p :p.

On a more serious note, I´m happy with the list so far n we might even have some of the original Rokkaz crew " Raoul, Snowman Cuba..etc.."

Long short of it is, We will leave on Friday night at 8.30 pm by Eurotunnel from Folkstone returning on Sunday the 14th from Calais at 8.30pm.

Going to the Dam for 2 nights so we wont get too tired from driving on the Monday ..

I am struggling to find a hotel ..bugger.. can any of u guys try from yer side (like the company´s travel agent or yer favorite secretary etc..) see if u can find us somink near the centre. Budget preferably 40 squid max- per person .. should get us nice rooms.

I havent got access to internet all day so i dont have much time to search for somink suitable.

7 double rooms twin beds + 1 single etc.. then we could always ask for more if we need to.

We don't want to be in some flea-pit 20kms from amsterdam do we. I know it's just somewhere to crash at the end of the day but for the extra 25 bucks I'd prefer somewhere without sticky carpet.

i am working on this place called the Belfort check it out on the net.. looks ok judging by the photos.. at 1 km from the centre.

better for the cars though.. with car prking facility etc..

36 squid per night .. read the independent report on it that says .."it is an acceptable place, nothing fancy but ok to be in"

so just awaiting their confirmation..the payment had to be up front so if they accept we gonna have to go with it.

However, i agree when u say a sticky carpet place..

I checked most of the big ones with offeres written all over ´em, as soon as u start checking the availability .. they either have nothing on the dates required or the price changes (to the double usually).

I've only been to Amsterdam for work, and stayed in the Amsterdam Central hotel, was 5 star and about 280 euros a night (probably a tad too much for us :))

Yeah 60 squid is about right .. but some 2 star hotel charge that in the Dam anyway ..so check it first if they have photos on the web.
The 1 i had sort of pre booked was ok @ 3 star 72 squid per twin room is a good 1 they decided to bump us off.. may be they had some bad experience in the past with some hooliganz.. :p

I've had a look at a few places, and tried calling two that looked promising. The website said 110 euros a night, but when I called to ask about a booking they told me 200! The other told me late October/early November for that many rooms, so I guess it's not a very big hotel..

last i heard about 30-40 pounds per night .... i checked with a few friends in both amsterdam AND rotterdam (shite hole!) and it seems the busy tourist period is doing us in ... :(

Just some observations from my trip.

parking is very sparce.. and we parked in an underground carpark which cost 32 euro a day.

There is NO way anyone with a low body kit will get on in Amsterdam, a lot of the road side parking that is available is usually accessed by going over raised pavement which is quite steep so expect some scuffs. They have some very steep speed humps too... even the underground carpark had steep ramps.

With regard to hotels etc, there are loads of places and you wont find it difficult getting a place. We stayed at the Ibis (right next to the train station - might be a good bet if you guys are willing to share as its easy to find and they'll probably have a fair few rooms available) where a double room cost 130 euros a night and 150 I think for the weekend rate.

God that is steep for the IBIS I thought they were budget hotels....I think outa town is the best scenario....with cars locked away in a hotel secure car park being essential....those of us who have ICE installs will not want to leave them in a public car park...THEY WILL DEFINATELY GET BROKEN INTO IN AMSTADAM without a doubt if left anywhere but same goes for parts of London...so no different really.

I think we should be looking for somewhere with easy reach of Amstadam by train...Trains are very cheap to use and we can always drive into town cruise round come back to Hotel then go back on train get really stonned and steaming and whatever else grabs you !!!

Yeah Ibis' are usually cheap. Sorta travellodge like. There were about 3 different Ibis places I spotted whilst driving into Amsterdam, but the one we landed was so central it was great.. and remember that room price is divided for 2 people.

I think if you're going in a group it would be best to fly over unless you've got your hearts set on the drive.

I really dont think you'd wanna be wanting to catch trains in and out of the place at the end of each night.

its getting really ugly with the hotel situation.. unfortunately i ´m still away until sat.. However, i ´m getting a call from my contact at eurotunnel that if i want those tickets at 59 squid still then i would have to buy them by this Friday the latest.

I think we could either risk it n try during the day time on Saturday early doors ? or go for a day trip to Ostend / Calais etc..

it usually turnout to be cool just doing that..

Please bring or buy a radio...BT Freeway's are good you get two radios a double slot Fast charger and rechargable batteries all for around £60...you can get cheaper ones but they must have CTCSS codes to completely filter out noise and other users.

Available from Argos Tesco Extra and other High street stores
I only have a few radios not enough for everyone....also buy a Euro plug adapter to plug them in over night.

We Use Channel 5 and Tone 5 (Our Official Earthroker Supra Channel) it saves forign mobile phone call costs in most cases and means Earth and others can relay info easily to everyone without having to phone everyone if someone has a problem and needs to stop or whatever.

So........CH 5/5

DO NOT BRING: Radar detectors or GPS based detectors...iF caught you could face a fine of up to 30,000 Euros or/and your car impounded...

Oh and don't forget your PASSPORT or your TOOTHBRUSH

This is going to be a top larf :) I can't wait.

Last (and only) time I went to Amsterdam was with work.. sure, it was cushy in a 5 star hotel with all expenses paid by the company (hell they even bought me weed and a bong, unbenownst to them), but I caught a lung infection on the flight over and was sick literally my entire stay. Spent an hour total working over 2 days (thurs/fri), flew in Wednesday and flew back sunday evening.. and aside from that hour I spent basically the ENTIRE time in my hotel room sick as a dog. I saw _NOTHING_.
