Doing fuel pump soon

Hi All

I now have my FCD, new plugs and pump to go in, so pretty much ready for BPU.

Am confident enough about the plugs and FCD but working with fuel bits isn't something I've done before apart from on diesels which I believe is a bit safer then petrol.

Going to follow http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=45647

How safe is it to use a soldering iron near the open fuel tank, if this is indeed required. Needless to say I'd be using an electric one not a gas one :D

Or is a case of being able to disconnect something from the loom and soldering it totally away from the car? Haven't actually looked yet so not sure what to expect.

Also any hints of what to insulate with if I can't use insulation tape, other safety tips?

Cheers :D
