View Full Version : Subs again

If I go the current route of thinking (replacement roller thing instead of a parcelshelf, and put the sub and enclosure in the boot) I'm left with somewhat of a problem:
The boot is far too small to house any kind of sub and enclosure - isn't it??
What alternatives do I have?
Fit 2 x 8" subs behind the rear seats. Or 2 x 12" Solobarics (square jobbies) with sit in the spare-wheel well.

J
You need to ask your self this question.....
"When do I use my rear seats?"
If the answer is never....whip em out ..... need I say more.... loads of extra space for NOS bottles and Subs!!! :)
Yep, Alex, you are dead on. That's what I asked myself about 6 months ago. I was debating about how much I could intrude on boot space when I did use the boot on occassion. Suddenly my attention turned to the rear seats and a space for a 15" sub materialised. :)

I thought about taking the rear seats out for weight saving purposes, but I was worried that my insurance company might severely load my premium due to it making the car totally different to stock. It also stops the car being a 4 seater which is what the DVLA expect it to be (or do they?).
Any thoughts on that?

I'd be pretty sure the DVLA won't care about you taking seats out. And I can't see why there's any real reason your insurance company should / could load your insurance. You need all four seats for the SVA but then that's hardly a problem.
My new one effectivly has the seats removed and the insurance didn't change as it was already pretty loaded!

Is there any chance of getting a pic or two of a car minus the rear seats and with some kind of install in place?
I'm intrigued....
I've got a 12" sub in a custom made box i'll take a few shots and post em! The box was made up by a place in Aylesbury called compleat car audio they done a superb job. It takes up a fair bit of space but i just put a multi plug on the wires so if i need to use the boot i just unplug it and lift it out, if you see it in place it looks great almost like a factory fit.

Wow
Yes, pics please! I have new hope!
Was this put in the boot?
Can anyone who has a Supe with the rear seats removed please post a pic, it would like to see what it looks like.
Thanks

I also have a 12" sub in a box directly behind the back seat, and it doesn't go back into the boot any further than the back of the strengthening cross member.....i.e it takes up the space that the stock sub uses, but it is almost the height of the back seat!
Yep yhat sounds about the same setup i've got i still use the roller blind thing though !!!
I will post pics when my brother gives me back my digi cam

Yeh I built the box to sit just under the roller blind, so that it is pretty much hidden!

This is EXACTLY what I want. Would there be room for 2 x 12" subs?
Again, I need pics for inspiration!

No i don't think so, one was fairly tight, but i guess it depends on the make of sub you are using....i.e what depth it is and what size enclosure it requires! I will take some digital pictures when i have a minute!

Thanks. I might go for 2x8" then......I've got this thing about doing everything in twos.....
I've seen some nice Rockford Fosgate subs that are begging me to purchase them...

Check out the Diamond rasnge of subs, they are brilliant. 2 8" would be very punchy, you never know 2 x 10" might be a possability. I just happened to have a 12" Celestion sub kicking around which i like the sound of!

Sweet, I never knew Celestion did subs suitable for cars! The factory is 2 minutes away from my house, I'll look into it. My home hi-fi speakers are Celestion, they're fantastic...
