how long can these last basically i got my 2 years ncb through the post and i renewed my insurance on my micra without using these ncb but i will use them next month now as my car wont be ready quick so how long can i have these without them being expired?

You lose a year for each year you don't use your NCB. So if you didn't use your 2 years NCB for 1 year it would drop down to one years NCB

Doesn't matter.

Buying insurance a month at a time is an expensive way of doing it though.

i work in insurance and the general rule across the board is that ncb cannot be used if it is 2 years out of date.

I once had 3 years ncb, didn't need it for a year and then picked it up again a year later, still at 3 years worth :)

Yep, you retain it for 2 years (whatever it is) then lose the lot
