With all the reports of these failing lately I've decided to have mine done.

What exactly needs replacing and is it a good idea to have the cambelt done at the same time?

dampner pully £200 and fan belt £30

if the timing belt hasnt been done u should do it now as it will save on labor costs

aux belt tentioner is a 10 minute job to change, nothing has to come off bar the spark plug cover, top timing cover and the belt itself

Going nowhere near the cambelt, if you wanted to change this a lot more stuff has to come off, usually aux tentioners start to make noise before breaking

The crank pulley (dampener) if that is what you are meaning, costs around 130 from nic, a fan belt is 10quid and you might as well change the timing belt and timing belt tentioner £60quid ish for both both an easy job

But probably not for you as you dont have the space :)

What's the big, serpentine belt that can be seen going around several round things?

thats the aux belt and the thing in the middle is the aux tentioner

the cam belt is the belt you can see when you take the spark cover off
