View Full Version : It all adds weight

Hi people,
Just a quick question, why do you all spend ££££'s on ICE when you can spend it on engine mods? ICE adds a lot of weight to your car and will in turn affect performance.

I'm just taking the pi$$ slightly, don't take the above as a serious jibe.

I understand the need for a good sound system but when it comes to adding lots of weight and bogging down your car on performance then it always turn me off the idea. Is the standard CD-changer/Radio/Tape player in the Supra not good enough?

Well, personally, my idea of modifying my car stops at changing the CD in the player ;-)

I wasn't going to change the head unit but I got hacked off with the Japanese one I had fitted (radio freq. shift, no anti-theft features, etc. etc.) so it was the first thing I changed.

I can't speak for the stock system, but I think the consensus is that its not up to much. I've only fitted a new head unit and left everything else as standard. I don't even have the stock amp...

Judging by some of the threads on the BBS I think the majority of money *is* spent on engine (and other) mods. I don't think that the cash you could spend on a halfway decent ICE upgrade would buy that many more horses under the hood.

As for adding "lots" of weight, percantage wise its a drop in the ocean, say, compared to how much you weigh your car down when you fill up at the pumps! Why not drive around with half a tank everywhere? That will save about 25 kilos. I seriously don't think you would notice much difference unless you fitted a sound system the size of the one in Tim Westwood's van.

There are other mods which add a lot more weight than ICE and do not add any measureble performance: a/m body kits and wheels spring to mind (not to knock either). A league table of "extra power to weight ratio" might be interesting reading for the technical section...

Actually, my new head unit weighs less than my old one - hence a significant power to weight ration increase.

About 2 grammes saved........woohoo!

Yeah, and I changed my front seats which, by a strange coincidence, weigh less by almost the same as my proposed new subs. So that's a free power-to-sound ratio. :)

Also, I've been using CDs without labels - that way I save weight too!

Darn it, never thought of the label-free option.

Hey, anyone thought of driving naked?

Should shed a pound or two. :)

Funny you should mention driving naked, me and a work mate saw two women changing in the back of a volvo estate car today on the motorway!  Needless to say it took some time to overtake them as we were both glued to the window as breasts were jiggling up and down to the bumps in the road! (nice set they both had if you don't mind me saying)

Damn, we thought no-one was looking! I will admit to standing on the seat of a mini - through the sun-roof - & taking my T-shirt off to wave at poor passing lorry drivers...don't think we ever actually caused a major accident but it must have been close a few times!

I'll be watching the "Spotted" forum with renewed interest.

Incidentally, I'm booked in for a haircut this Friday. Anyone know where I can hire some timing equipment from? Should be good for a few milliseconds off my 0-60 time ;-)

You've not thought this one through at all.......the timing equipment will add any weight that you gain after your haircut!

Take a big dump before doing your run, maybe that'll compensate....

Disposing of all excess bodily fluids is a smart idea,
I alway take a pee/crap/masturbate before a breakfast run.

Now you lot know my secret to why I ALWAYS cum first
on the breakfast runs.
