OK, car has been stood not used for well over a month. Have just replaced the cambelt pully. Im pretty sure I got all the timing right. The fan belt is back how it should be also.

The problem. Battery completely dead, wont hold charge.

The bigger problem. Took me and a mate about an hour to coax the engine into turning over from a jump. I know theres enough power to jump her from my mates car, as ive done it many times before. When I eventually got the engine started, masses of black smoke coming out the exhaust, also the engine really sounds bad and lumpy. I have to rev to stop the car from cutting out also.

Any ideas, and what should i do?

Cheers.

double check the timing and check the coolant temp sensor, you getting any error codes?

double check all coil pack connectors too

got to say it mate, check the crank and pulleys to check its all aligned right.

If thats ok, the fuel in car may be causing it.

could also be stuck injector off top of my head

Which pulley do you mean?

Could you have got the timing 180 degrees out? I presume you know the crank revolves twice for every one revolution of the cams?

yes

The timing should be set at 0 degrees with piston 1 at TDC

Fuel Dude. I have to leave the bike and car for 4 months and never has one not started on a jump. Timing etc can't go out leavin't alone. :)

Thanks guys, ill double check the timing first, but i did do the 2 revolutions test on the crank pully to see if the timing pullies were aligned and they were. Maybe the white lines are set wrong on the pulies?

You want a step by step guide "after" you've done the job, christ, hope you never take up parachuting ;)

Fuel goes off after a period of time.

Also it is always lumpy after the battery has died whilst the ECU re-learns the map. It will settle after 3 runs or so. As for the big puff doesn't sound too good.
