Hi all,

My Kenwood MP3 player has the D-MASK front panel which can either flip over to look completely blank, or be removed altogether.

Problem is, after only a couple of months' use the contacts seem to be getting worn. Anyone familiar wth the system will know that the panel sort of "floats" on a springy mounting when installed, so the whole panel can sometimes move if you press any of the buttons firmly.

My symptoms  are: the display flashes and sometimes goes off completely when I press the buttons.

I have started to press the panel in *really firmly* when replacing it, and it seems to be a bit better, but I'm a bit p*ssed that its not more robust for £300!

Anyone have a similar problem with a Kenwood D-MASK head unit?

Sounds like now is the time to find that warranty card you got with it, fill it in and post it.....

I've had LCD displays go a bit like that, in the BM the trip computer's backlight kind of goes bright and less bright a lot, and if you press the buttons hard enough (the only one I use is the one that 'pings' when you go above a set speed) the screen looks briefly like when you get that oil on water effect...

This is a full blown on/off flash. Strangely the sound is unaffected.

Bugger. Looks like the dash might be coming out again :-(

I'm in the audio trade and we sell loads of Mask/ Dmask units. They are generally very reliable. The only common problem is on the motorised units where people install them into tight dash holes and push on the outer edges without the surround in place. These edges are the facia runners and cause the panel to get stuck in mid turn.

Flashing? - Faulty, without doubt. - Sorry.

Just an addendum to this, I've started being a bit more forceful with the front panel when I attach it, actually presing it into the housing rather than just clicking it in. The problem seems to have gone away.

Looks like I was treating it with a little too much respect!!
