There was an article in the Mail today about Bindi and how she's carrying on in his stead. A remarkable young lady :)

Nope. Couldn't believe it either. He's left a fantastic legacy though... Top bloke and family. Real role models..

I haven't watched the thing that's on today but if he was a smart man why did he get killed by stingray which are generally not known to attack unless provoked?

I had a lot of time for Steve Irwin. Although I would have thought that most people thought he was a bit of a loon. He was on Parkinson about a year to 18 months ago and I was really taken back by his enthusiasm.

Sad really!

I've been to Australia Zoo and seen him in action. A sad loss.

As much as I admire Bindi for wanting to carry on her Dad's legacy, I can't help but feel that along with losing her Dad she also seems to have lost her childhood.

Hopefully mum will fill that gap.... She's clever but you're right....:(

Not a smart man. Right. World class scientist, acclaimed. Died in a 1/10000 mishap doing exactly what he loved. Daughter has more intelligence than most in this country at twice her age. Thread was started in sympathy for the man and family, not to diss him and imply stupidity.

I also saw him in action at the Australia Zoo, he was a showman but most of all he did so much to educate people on preserving not destroying native wildlife.

A real sad loss:(

I don't think it attacked him as such, IIRC. He more fell onto the spike or dived onto it or something?? I dunno. Was a shame.

He was very well respected by the Aspinals (they release captive lowland gorillas back into the wild). Aspinal said that he had never met anyone that could gain trust from animals so quickly and easily as Irwin.
