Supra pod, my story.

Im home, after a long and tiring day but by god it was worth it :D Excuse the poor spelling and grammar(not that its great anyway) I thought I would post my supra pod story for the guys that attended and to give some of the lazy buggers that didn’t get out of bed a rough idea as to what went on)

After being kept up last night collecting the stickers and check in passes equalling 4 hours kip, my alarm went off at 5.30. (What, is that it? I’m sure 4 hours sleep must be longer then that!). I pulled myself of bed and headed off to the Essex meeting point at the A12/M25 exchange where a good shiny supras await. We natter, complain about the time and head off towards Pod. Now ive done convoys before but they have only been 2 or three cars strong or if there has been a lot of us then its the southend convoys but we are limited to 40mph, so in honesty I really wasn’t expecting much. How wrong was I! Lots of supra's, open road really is something you must do whilst you own one, it was like something out of a film. Best bit was the tunnel :eyebrows:

So anyways, we are 'pootleing' along and guess what turn up.......more supras! (Gary aka Mr Lover and a few others, sorry but ive forgot the rest of you, long day, tired, you know how it is). After collecting a few stragerlers ;) we came to Toddington where everyone but me and Adi, pulled off to join the uber convoy. I was due to get the gate and get the pass's and stickers out as well as tick a few people off the list, and I was running late........anyone that knows me knows this is rather a regular occurrence :innocent:

So we arrive (late) to meet, JB, Mawby and partner (sorry I didn’t catch her name, but nice to finally meet you guys) to find we were basically the first ones here. Result! Handed the gubbins over, complained about the time and decided that I would man the traffic inside of Santa pod. Cool, this should be easy for a half asleep Daman. Dumped the motor inside, met some more people, complained about the time and headed over to the area that needed directing my camera and tripod in hand. Plonked the camera down and started to kind of usher cars in the right direction, now im sorry if this includes some of you guys reading this, but it seemed I wasn’t there! I know I certainly wasn’t there in mind but I thought id be noticeable in person. Its was a case of "click" on the camera and doing multiple barrel rolls straight after to avoid ending up in hospital. :D So after dodging a few cars decided the area needed mudding. I then proceeded to then trash the fencing and nick every bin in sight to create a roadblock. Great I think to myself, this will work a treat and look up to find a load of you (sorry if its you again) coming in right behind the start line. ooooh bugger, a dink in my plan. I waddle over to this infamous extra gate and again proceed to steal every bin in site to block it off. Ah har, get thought that you bastards!

Strangely enough, it worked and so headed back to my original base to carry on diverting the traffic. It was going well and was thinking to myself "sorted" with a subtle smile on my face. Well, that was until some gremlin kept putting an invisible jacket on me which left me looking like a dog out for a walk (chasing cars). Was good fun thou and certainly livened me up a bit! By now the ground was starting to fill up and you guys were finding interesting places to park, damn I could do with a hand right about now. It was kind of going along the lines of "click", barrel roll, chase, "sorry you need to had this way", chase, "no sorry you cant park there", RTB, "click"......blah blah blah. So I look up to find some fella into the ground helping direct the traffic within our area. He kind of looked like that funny father from the simpsons. So it was back to the traditional "click", barrel roll procedure :)

A load more cars pile in and this simpsons character heads over, "hello mate, I’m Homer" *Click* my Brain engages and get to meet that funny simps.......sorry I mean Homer. More cars keep piling in and I can now concentrate on pointing out directions and doing the "clicky" thing, so I do and glance up now and again to see Homer performing some rather fine 10/10 barrel rolls.

More cars pile in and the track is opened up. My life saving simpsons character has gone and am back to square one but by now nearly everyone was in, so I modified the fencing once more. (anyone that that wasn’t sure as to directions, you have me to blame so feel free to throw tomatoes at me at the next event). We headed over to the cafe, as breakfast didn’t happen first thing and my stomach was groaning like a bad porn star on a 'vocal' day. However priority 1 was to get some Tea inside me, I run on the stuff and hadn’t had one for a few hours now. This soon changed, as someone left the cafe with some dirty great huffer filled the brim with meat and sauce and grease leaking into the atmosphere. I nearly tripped over the step as this sight of the huffer filled my life.

priority 1: Obtain Dirty great huffer

priority 2: Obtain tea

So after filling my hollow legs with the huffier and receiving my cup of piss we decided to watch a few cars up in the grandstand. Ive been to pod before on the RWYB days, but to watch nothing but supras tearing up the strip really is something else. I was as excited as Michael Jackson in a nursery!

So we watch and watch until Mark aka Markymark said "come on then, its your go" Oh yeah, I had forgot I could have a go too! Mark agrees to bring his NA and put it up against me that way I could look good. At this point im thinking, look good? Your having a laugh, im going to look about as much good as a baby giraffe being dropped into a swimming pool! So for anyone that hasn’t clicked, I haven’t done anything like this before in my life but was eager to give it a try but rather apprehensive (im sure there was a lot of you guys that thought this too). We sign up with our 'awesome' sign on cards, collect our cars and drive up to the queue to run.

We arrive at the queue and wait for the cars in front to run, this is where a little anxiety kicks in. What the hell are you doing Daman? Your sitting in this funny jap car, in front of all these people also with the same funny jap car, looking towards a big line of tarmac miles from home. Mark moves forward, so I take a wild guess and decide to do the same in the other lane. I’m greeted with a puddle of water where you can send smoke signals. I decided I want a bit of that and attempt my piss poor attempt at one. Well, it seemed a good idea at the time I thought to myself as I mimicked Marks every move and running though my checklist. Climate control fans: Off, Traction Control: off, Manu mode: on Shift into L. Excellent, I think to myself, I think I may have done it right! “Do you window up fella” one of the funny men in the cool outfits at the side of the track says. Bugger! Thanks Mr Marshal. Window: Up. I look up to the posh traffic lights and see Marks two orange lights light up and watch him stop. Right, this cant be hard I think, so I roll forward slowly not having a clue where the car really has to be. The two lights are off, so roll forward a little more, still off, a little more, nope. Hummm ok, another go, wheyhey a light! Another to go, and they both light up, I stop. This seemed to take an age but in reality im sure it was probably within a normal amount of time. Right, im in position so I suppose ive got think about getting ready to go. I dig the power breaking start out of my head and run though the checklist. Step one, make sure you have selected L, so I look down at my gear selection……..L, whey hey step one done! I look up at the lights………..Green! What, hey, hang on, I am not ready! Can we not restart? Hey, who pushed the button, what’s going on? By this time Marks started to Sod off, oh dear :( The start checklist goes out of the window (not that its open at this point) I hit the brake, smash the loud pedal and let off the brake!

I’m moving!!! Cool! Actually im moving quickly, no hang on, it’s not quick its bloody rapid. The car suddenly turns into the gripiest thing from gripsville and I have a funny kind of traction that ive never experienced before. If this was a normal road id be sat here spinning! Woooosh! I go, whoa this is strange. My revs climb and I shift into second, neeeaaaaawwww! After gathering myself everything pauses as I think to myself (the following text should only be read after 9pm) FUCK ME!!!!! This is awesome!!!!! Back in the room! Ah yes, funny jap car, tarmac, travelling…….concentrate Daman. My revs continue to climb as too my heartbeat and I run out of revs, oh yes another gear, I can get more revs and more BPM. I shift into D. Noise change to the noises you only hear when doing naughty speeds, I continue grinning and pass the line but my foot stays firmly panted to the floor. Faster faster faster! After having a domestic with my right foot I finally persuade it to stop squashing the poor loud pedal and begin to slow down and exit at the end of the track. What a rush! How fun was that! Again Again! At the end of the run off you have the choice to go right to run again or left to return the parking area. I couldn’t turn my steering wheel right any faster! I Queued again and spoke to one of our resident David Baileys, Tom who tells me my Time. 13.1

You what? The score board must be broken, I don’t believe you! Ill have to go again (any excuse!) Vroom, chirp, vrrooooom, chirp, vrroooom I go down the strip and come round again. Tom explains another 13.1. Nope defiantly broken! One last time. 12.9

The day goes on, I eat more huffers, chat to more people and enjoy watching these funny jap cars go up the strip. After a short lunch break the strip is reopened. At this point im like a woman charging through the crowd trying to be the first into a sale at Debenhams! After a few vroom chips later and mostly 13’s I fail to beat my time and retire to let my poor supra cool down. More huffers are consumed, more people met and more of these funny jap cars go up the strip. The show and shine winners are picked and the voices in my head said “you know you want to go out there again Daman”. Needless to say the voices won, and I was soon finding myself sharing the track with just one other fella, (who were you?) awesome, santa pod to me and another person! We do a few more runs and I retire to the girlfriend and a few of the locals. The girlfriend looked like she had a bee stuck in her arse! “whats up” she replies “12.8”

I gather my junk, say my goodbyes and head home. I think we can safely say today has been a great success and no doubt there will be another. I would like to say thanks to all of the other moderators involved and of course you guys that tuned up! It was good to meet more new faces as too the old ones as well.

I can now say I have a new addiction……….drag racing! For anyone that isn’t quite sure, try it, you might like it! Anyways im off to bed, I am bloody tired!

Here’s to a great club and Supra Pod 2008!

i think that might of been me that you were sharing santa pod with. Just coming up to 5:00 and no-one else was dragging just kept going around. Did wonder what you were running as i just stood no chance :(

Managed to squeeze in 43 runs and only queued for a max of 5 minutes a couple of times :D

Great post, really made me laugh and like Gazboy said, wish I'd been there, hopefully no problems with the car for the next one :)

Someone else mentioned about Huffers, what the hell are they? :D

They are like a big bap that you fill with stuff and eat, like a big soft flowery roll...

Anyway, great post mate, was nice to meet you today too.

I broke Mark in earlier and glad he kept it together enough for you to follow his lead... lol

I've had a look through and I cant see a picture of mine on the way in, I saw you taking them so hoped i would be in the compilation...

Its a black j spec which looks almost identical to this one (which you have a picture of) as we have the same wheels. Edd_T's?

My Reg is M529 ACK
