Ive organised a little trade account with a big ICE
supplier, lots of nice Rockford and JL gear too,
I am rather fond of JL subs.... ;-)
Anyway, if anyone is seriously after some ICE parts
and you want me to see if I can get the parts cheaper
than anyone else, give me a try !
All parts will be official uk gear.

Without any intention of undermining Justin, I do car audio and security for a living and If anybody wants anything, feel free to call me. I'm fairly confident I can beat most peoples prices. - Can't get Rockford though, sorry!
All my bits are also brand new and genuine UK equipment so I cant always beat the Magazine prices.
I work at Sextons in Maidstone - 01622 683044 - (Hence the little mouse logo... I have no idea what he's from but apparently he's called Sexton. Seemed appropriate)
Justin, are you after some audio for your car? - Wanna do a deal on some UK spec brakes? ^ ^3 x JL 10w6? Phoenix gold amp or two?....
Can anyone get their hands on discount Focal stuff?
165W; 180W & 165W3 in particular.
Yours,
J

The problem I find with buying the ICE parts seperately is the extortionate prices people charge to install it for you (and do a decent job of it!).
The local place I use aren't as cheap as the warehouses, but everything has free installation.....

I can do Focal.
I'll let you know how much I can do them for on Tuesday.
Matt.
Thanks, Matt, no rush. It's just that I decided I'd be sticking with Focal for my eventual ICE revamp (which won't be for about 3 months yet) and my source can't get them at any real discount. So if you can get them at a good saving over retail, I'll definitely be knocking on your door come speaker time. :)

Matt, obviously I can get my gear are tremendous prices,
but if you want to do an install in my evo in your spare
time for a nice chunk of cash and a new set of UK brakes,
then im up for it, but soooon.....
I currently want 3 x JL Audio 10's in a small(ish) non ported
box , a high end amp to power them, some top quality
speakers for the front, 6x9's for the rear and that lot
powered by another amp, youll need to supply and fit
all cabling, sound proofing etc etc.
The evo goes to lots of shows and meets, happy to put lots
of business your way.....plus it will be featured in something
like Max Power soon, more advertising for you....

I can supply the equipment no problem, but I'm not sure about the installation. We're flat out at the moment, booking about 10 days in advance.
Assuming I'm going to see you this Saturday, I'll talk to you about it then.

I can get boxes ready made and trimmed quite cheaply. Much cheaper than custom made enclosures anyway.
Assuming that your are putting this into a Mitsi Evo then this should be no problem...
What I'm asking is: - Are you after just a normal, angled rear/flat front style box to fire the woofers in to the rear?
If you can answer this tonight I'll give you a total price tomorrow.
Matt Harwood

Ash, all these are available on a next day basis...
Just say when.

Actually, I has better take some measurements,
I want the sub box to be transferrable between the
FTO and the Evo.
Nice having an ICE expert on the BBS 8-)

The JL's go in quite small enclosures anyway. I'll get you a price for a ready made box and the dimensions... Let you know later today.

Another potential customer here.....if they can fit in a Supra!
Matt, do you have an install in your own Supra?
Matt Harwood
12-12-01, 21:10
Justin,
I can do JL10w3-D6, (assuming D6's as you want 3 of them) £120 each. (Slightly less but I was too lazy to work out the pennies!)
I was waiting for a return call from my box supplier today but either it did'nt come or I missed it. However, JL do an enclosure for them that is around £110. I've never seen one from JL yet so I can't tell you anything about it except that it is covered in grey fleck carpet.
I'm sure I can get one cheaper than that!
No, as yet I have no install in my Supra. I've only had it a month and only got the security sorted last week. When I get time....
Iust let me know what your after...

Matt, ive been giving it some thought,
think ill go with a full install in the evo,
front speakers, rear speakers , 3xJL 10's,
two amps, cabling, sound proofing etc etc.
We'd better get our heads together on this one 8-)
One quick question, even though im getting trade prices
from an already dirt cheap distributor, your prices seem mind
bogglingly good.....do they include VAT ?
When can you fit my Evo in....please say soon....
Do you think the 3 x JL's will kick arse ?
Lastly, I didnt realise there were more than one type of "w3"
whats the score there ?
Are there any better subs for my money than JL ?
Sorry for all the q's
Matt Harwood

Yes those prices do include vat and I'm happy to do a vat invoice if required, (or exchange for brakes etc, as I would have a hard time telling the tax man why I needed a huge expensive set of Toyota brakes for our company van! ;) ), though cash is always nice!
Personally, I think JL subs are very nice sounding, musical without boom, but controlled and powerful at the same time.
There are loads of different types of sub around and everybody has different hearing tastes. (Especially those that are into audio). Without a full test rig and silly expensive switch gear that compensates for speaker efficiency, there is no good way of comparing different subs short of listening to other peoples. Even then, you need to bear in mind what the rest of the system comprises of, (Amp/head/processor etc.), and the acoustics of the car.
Recently, the only subs I have used in my cars are JL or Kicker solobaric L series, (Square subs). These I know work well. The JL's sound better/drop lower and hold a note better and for longer but the Kickers go in stupidly small enclosures and handle masses of power.
JL do various different voice coil impedences to allow for better installation flexibility and more options. Single 4 ohm, Dual 2 ohm, Dual 4 ohm and dual 6 ohm. They are pretty much all the same prices, (+/-£10 of each other).
My prices are cheap because:
1 Sextons are part of the Toad group and therefore the UK's largest audio network/supplier which helps to get lower cost prices.
2 before I made this offer, I checked loads of the profiles on here and came to the conclusion that there are not too many on here that are local to me. (this conclusion also drawn by the fact that we only see about 1 mkiv Supra every 6 months.)
3 handing over boxes to people that would not normally be my customers will only affect my GP. It will help my retros in some cases, but more importantly, I may be able to do a deal with others on here for parts I need... !
4 I'm a nice guy!
No catches.
My only problem is installation. This pays the bills and I can't really do this cheaply. Need to talk to you about that...
Sorry for babbling on a bit - Did that make sense/answer your questions?
JL subs are always my first choice I've had 3 now and have got a 12" JL sub in a custom box in my Supe at the mo mind u i cant see much out the rear window when it up on full volume the window vibrates to much lol
You've seen my sub didn't you Justin when i came down to get my bits from you cant remember if you heard it though ??
Picture's of it on mkivSupra.net member 81
And Mat i'm thinking of putting a dvd player and screen in mine soon any recomendations ? Also want to hook up a xbox when they are out ^any advice !!!

Demon, the xbox plays DVD's so you can kill two birds with one stone. They're also not region locked like the other consoles (well not in hardware), so you could save time and import one now.
I'm stuck with a NTSC setup so when my US xbox turns up i'll be able to plug it striaght in. However they do have a digital output on them, so if there was some way of leveraging that it would make the pictures a lot better.
I have two bass tube things in the back of mine which all things considered are pretty good. I'm fairly sure it makes the mirror vibrate more than the rear window though :)
ooh ooh - when you get that XBox let me know :)
I'd love to see one in action, i've avoided PS2 waiting for an XBox
Dean..
It seems everyone is waiting for the X-Box i cant belive they didnt get it out here before X-mas :(

Easiest and neatest way to get a screen in a car is one of the motorised monitors from the likes of Alpine, Kenwood etc.
Ball park figure on an Alpine motorised monitor/tuner and CD changer, (CVA-1003R + CHA-S624), around £900 ish...
It has 1 A/V input as standard but can be upgraded.
I have the IVA-C806R in my car. I've moved the head unit to the lower position with a pocket above so that I can still access the temp controls and upper fan controls when the monitor is out.
The only problem is the monitor cannot open/close when the gear selector is in Park... No major problem.

I've had a play on an X-Box at their preview thing - wasn't really that impressed.
It's got an Intel chip, fer Christ's sake!
I'm not overly impressed with GameCube either. I think PS2 has had far too much of a head start (and a few AAA titles in the past 6 months) to look back.
I'm still playing Pro Evolution Soccer.
Not to mention GT3. I'm still practising my qtr mile times on that

I never got into GT3......didn't do enough of a change from the previous version for me. Computer AI was still dreadful, just the same.
Still, the license modes are always good fun. I prefer F1 2001 though, it's so realistic and unforgiving to bad drivers.
And you can overtake, unlike real F1

I don't really care about the platform, i'm just a fan of good games. At the end of the day the consoles are a lot cheaper than the games.
The Xbox having PC components is a major bonus, the hackers have already ripped it to pieces, upgrading hardware etc. As well as meaning there is already a large amount of knowledge about the platform. The PS2 / Gamecube / GBA are all mighty annoying to code for, but the XBox is a walk in the park.
The importer wanted £700 for an Xbox ($300 in the states), so i'm going to New York earlier Jan for a major shopping trip. Pick up Metal Gear Solid 2 when i'm at it too :)
Maybe Justin should do a group buy ;) As I said before the XBox isn't region locked, and i've got a nice digital screen to run it off so the display isn't important (outside of the car), so I lose nothing (other than a 3 month wait) getting a US one!
GT3 rocks, but it wasn't as good as Metropolis Street Racer on the DC in some respects, and Project Gotham Racing (the sequel on the Xbox) looks top notch!
