would removing the anti-rattle shims cause squealing brakes?

I had my brakes replaced last year and they have just started squeaking. not too much just every now and then.

I had them apart myself prior to them being replaced and there were two metal plates on top of the pads, looked them up and they are anti-rattle shims.

The machanic hasnt replaced these along with the pads so i was wondering if that was what is causing the squeaking?

CW left mine out as he says he founds on his Supra it helped give a more positive feel to the pedal. They sometimes squeel a little but it doesn't bother me.

I kept them just in case though.

:iagree: Especially if you don't fit new ones when you change pads, and they're not cheap. They are anti-squeel shims btw, not anti-rattle. The anti-rattle things are the springs that go on the back round the pins.
