The right door speakers farting/popping. Disconectted the speaker. Taaa daaa nobody told me about the lil' tweeter in the dash. Its still farting/popping.

I've been told of a couple of indpendents thats its likey the centre channel or summat with the head unit.

Either way its not working properly. Time for a change.

I've come to the conclusion. Stereo.
BIN.
Amp under passenger seat.
BIN

Will my existing speakers work with just a new head unit? What can I expect to pay to get a reasonable head, speakers etc in my Supre.

I really like driving my car without music.

Any suggestions..

Yours pICEd right off,

Yes, if you get a responsible dealer to fit it, a head unit will drive those speakers.  I recommend Alpine.  I got mine ripped out even though it worked, I think the stock unit is pretty horrible.  As are the speakers, truth be told..

Upgrading the speakers can be done after that, a set at a time if you want tunes still to be pumpin.

Still won't sound much better, with just a head unit change, stock speakers have to go to get  better sound.

It's very rare for a head unit to cause popping or farting, especially on just one speaker, so the shop almost certainly gave you an incorrect diagnosis and i'd give them a wide berth .
The only way an internal amp will cause anything like popping is a short across the amp  or the offending speaker, or an earthing where it shouldn't be.

The most likely cause is the speaker, either by the copper wires (which go the the coil on the back of the cone), these can touch the cone, and when the cone moves it will hit the wires and cause a farting noise. Or it could be a torn or weak cone.

Change the speaker first and then check it again. Some car audio shops really are a bodge and dont know what they're on about.

ah, just reread your post, if you've disconnected the speaker and its still doing it from the tweeter, then check the tweeter as well !
Are you sure its only from one speaker?

Oh yes I totally agree! - Just spent all bloody day re-installing a Clifford that another dealer cocked up!

Brad, Where in th SW are you?

If you want to trundle over to Maidstone, we'll sort the problem or make use of the bin and put something worthwhile in.

I wouldn't like to attempt to diagnose your problem without hearing it first. (Forget any centre channel rubbish... Supra's dont have centre channels... Volvo's do!)

I'm gonna got the Hengehog route and flirt it to my friendly Toyota dealer, see what they can do with it.

I'll keep ya informed.

186.7 miles away Matty, Weston-Super-Mare a bit to far for mi to nip in afor ya to have a quick butchers. ;)

I'd avoid that route too, the best bet is to buy yourself a set of new front speakers and fit them in place of the old ones. im sure theres a list somewhere on this site that will give you some replacement speakers which will fit straight in.

It's almost certainly the speakers, BUT if it isn't...you haven't seen me okay...
(seriously though if it isn't then change the head unit, dont bother to get it repaired as it will never be the same again due to the fact that different spec parts are nearly always used in the repair)

I'm soooooo glad you added the hetrasexual bit! :)

I've had to go to Bristol quite a bit recently and it generally takes me 3-4 hours, (1 hour just to pass Heathrow!), ^if you get no luck and just want to sort it out without someone in a shop making you buy something you dont want/need, let me know and we can try different bits until it's sorted. You could go and meet the legendery Justin, he's about 25 mins away from me.
