Alienware 51m 7700 laptop

Im selling my alienware laptop, it is really a beautilful machine and performs very well. Here are the specs

Area-51m 7700 17"XGA screen,
P4 650 3.4ghz with HT (desktop processor)
2MB L2 cache,
800mhz FSB,
1GB DDR2 PC4200 RAM (max of 4GB),
60GB HD (laptop able to hold another HD to run together),
8X Dual Layer DVD+/-RW / 24X CD-RW Combo (room for another DVD drive),
ATI MOBILITY RADEON X800 XT 256mb Graphics card.
USB floppy drive,
built in wireless.
4 USB slots,
2 firewire slot,
10 in 1 card reader built in.

Included is all the alienware software including a copy of XP, Cyberlink DVD 6,Nero express,Kaspersky anti-virus and whatever else is on the other Alienware master CD's.

This laptop has a LGA775 socket motherboard (CLEVO D900T), so it can be up upgraded to hold any duel core/ 64bit processors,you can also install upto 4GB of RAM and upgrade to duel graphics cards (upgraded cooling system will be needed). You can also install another DVD drive aswell as the one already there.

I can bring it with me to Santa Pod if anyone is interested.

There is also a few months left to run on the alienware warentee left but i can extend this to 3 years if needed.
It is in perfect running condition and will come with a clean original copy of XP installed.

Price = £700 delivered.

This laptop cost me over £1300 less than 10 months ago

It's "OK".

It's not really meant as a true laptop according to Alienware. More like a compact desktop computer. You couldn't use it on your lap on a train unless you have seriously beefy legs. But it outperforms pretty much anything when in it's element.

yeah your right there gaz, although the battery on mine will last a few hours if your just using the internet.

That's respectable enough really, sadly I cant afford it but I was curious on how a mobile desktop like this would cope when it's unplugged - I've always lusted after an Alienware laptop.

Most laptops have half-arsed parts in them to either make them smaller, lighter, cheaper or have better battery life etc - with these ones they are more like mobile desktops with very good CPUs, graphics card and so on. You can use them as gaming machines and you can upgrade them, with most laptops you are limited on upgrades and have to spend a fortune to get one with the best bits in.

Alienware were bought out by Dell not so long ago so all of the above will probably change so Dell can restrict upgrades and force people to buy new ones :)

o i see, looks pukka,i know what you mean, my mate bought a game for his laptop but it wouldn't pLay it, so he went to see if he could buy a graphics card but it couldn't be upgraded at all. POOR

We used to supply Clevo / Kapok machines maybe six years ago. Enta Technology supplied them as bare-bones (you buy the CPU, hard disk and RAM separately).
The two companies (Kapok and Clevo) merged around about that time IIRC. They were always to me, not proper laptops, fairly pooly built budget units and we usually had a draw full of batteries that needed to be sent back for not holding more than 2 minutes charge. The fact that their bigger units (15 - 17") used desktop processors & chipsets never seemed like a good thing to me, although it did mean you had unusually good graphics for a laptop (and a lot of heat, noise & weight).

As a result I have always been considerably surprised by the following/obsession that Alienware seem to have got :shrug:

Having said all that, it's been a long time now since I dealt with them and being a company that doesn't follow the trend so to speak, I'd quite like to see some of their other current machines. There might be something special and neat/small in their lineup now.
