View Full Version : MD player dead after battery change

Just picked my car up from the garage after it's lovely lovely spray job (no more dent - I'd forgotten what shape it was meant to be!), went to put some choons on for the drive home, and . . . nothing.

I have a Sony MDX-C6500R, which I've put into three different cars now, and I've never needed a security code or anything - I don't think it has that feature.

When my uncle came to pick the car up on his trailer, the old battery was dead so we had to jump-start it to get it on the trailer.  It's sat around for a few weeks with a very dead battery, had a new battery put in a couple of days ago, and now everything works great apart from the minidisc player!  It won't accept a disc, or show any lights at all on the front panel.

I've tried pressing the reset button on the front panel with no result, and I don't know what to do.

Can one of the ICE experts help me out here?  I can't get around without sound, man!

Sounds like it could of blown a fuse.

Is there one inline at the back of the stereo ?

Yeah, I've blown (fnarr) a Panasonic unit's fuse by giving a car a jump-start before.

Suggest you take it out and take it to someone what knows about these fings.  I used to work with someone who replaced mine for me, and put a new heatsink in - how very nice.

On that unit the fuse is located underneath the wiring harness. You'll need to unplug the loom to check the fuse. Also by doing this you will be total power reset, (better than a processor reset button), which may also cure your problem.
Failing that, I think I have a brand new rear end unit for one of those I could let you have cheap.

Thanks muchly for the replies guys.  I was panicking there but a fuse is the most likely candidate I guess.

I guess I shall have to take the unit out in order to check the fuse.  That's good, because I didn't have any plans for this afternoon.  Good job it's such a doddle to slip in and out, with no fuss or hassles.  :(

I reckon I'll stick a 30 amp one in there, save having to do the poxy
job AGAIN! ;)

Well, it was slipperier than I thought ;)

Twenty minutes swearing and one ten amp fuse later . . . music!

Thanks for the help peeps.  I suspect the head unit may have deliberately comitted suicide though, as the minidisc I got out was a Leonard Cohen album :)
