View Full Version : Stock tweeter replacement
I'm changing the front stock speakers in my 97 facelift RZ. I'm going to put components in, with the mids in the stock door locations and the tweeters in the stock dash location. Anyone know how easy/hard it's going to be to get at the tweeters in the dash ? It looks like I'll have to take the whole dash out. Getting at the stereo is easy enough, but what about the rest of the dash ? I'm also presuming the stock speakers have in line crossovers. Is this true or are there some crossover boxes lurking behind the dash somewhere that I'll have to track down ?

I havn't tried to access mine yet,but I would assume that there will be a small capacitor soldered to the bottom of the tweeter.

I installed some Boston Pro's 6.5 componet speakers in my doors, and I can tell you that you will have to take out most of the dash to get to the stock tweeters. At least to do the work thats needed in changing them. I was originally going to do this method but decided against it because one, the location of the tweeter is not really optimal for sound quality(really not that big of a deal), and two it was gonna cause a lot more work than i really wanted to do. Plus i've tore out my dash enough times and didnt want to keep doing it and cause rattles in that area. I just went with a flush mount tweeter next to the woofer in the door and it looks pretty good.
Yeah, I had a go last weekend and after a fairly short while decided it was a complete nightmare and changed plans. I prised the grilles off the stock tweeters to route the wires up underneath and fixed the new ones on top of the old grilles. Looks OK if not quite stock ! One day I might get round to putting 'em in flush.
Had an embarassing moment when driving into a multi-storey car park a few days later. I drove up to the barrier ticket dispenser and went to wind the window down to take the ticket only to find I'd forgotten to reconnect the door switches when I put the door back together! Cue embarrasing clambering awkwardly out of car to get the ticket.
Doh!

Haha, yeah i've done stuff like that before. Its not fun when living in Texas during the summer and forgetting to plug the AC controls back up after changing RCA cables on the head unit.

I mounted my Diamond flush mount tweeters in the kick panels. They fit in there a treat, it takes about 10 mins to do it and the natural angle is just right. Worked well for me anyway :)
