Twin or N/A

Hi,

ive decided after a long wait for my insurance to go down, to buy a supra...then i got 3 points in my integra type R.... but then i thought ^x@x -it! I'l get one n e way!

I wanted a UK twin turbo in manual with miles under 80,000 around the £4-8000 mark with no or simple mods, so its really difficult to find one.

My plan was to buy a HKS T51R KAI (single turbo conversion kit) and obviously other performance mods to support it.

I wanted to know is it worth buying a much cheaper non turbo supra and just installing the same upgrades.

Is the non turbo the same as the twin turbo spec but with two turbo's thrown on or is there much more that was changed?

i just don't wanna buy a twin turbo for a lot more then realise that its the same after i take the turbos off.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated, cheers

You'd be lucky to get a uk tt 6 spd for 8k with them miles on. I payed just under 10k for my j-spec but it is mint.

The n/a and tt ate totaly diferent engines. You can do a turbo conversion on an n/a though.

If you look hard enough you will find an already modded one and save a huge amount.

Look in the traders sections and the supras for sale also. Id only ever buy from here as they would have been looked after.

You can pick up some really cheap n/a's in excellent condition, you can add a turbo, but i think it'll set you back about £4000.

I've never drove a TT, but the more time i spend on here, the more i wished i had.

It depends if you plan on modding it to your taste or are happy with osmeone elses taste.

Theres less (expense wise) to go wrong on a n/a, but a tt can be upgraded for more bhp.

I agree, the best to look for a decent one is on here.

Cheers,

i don't have to be 6-speed manual cos i know they are expensive. i've sort have a budget of round 10k inc the turbo mods so i might have to stretch it on the milage a bit- i heard there good for 200k miles but with really powereful mods i'm not sure how much the engine could take

Welcome fella.

RE: your car search, you wont get one for that money... unless its a write off.

If I were you I'd look for a cheap JDM model and then mod it, or possibly save some money and look for a pre modded car to a similar spec to what you're after.

I'm sure a smaller turbod car like a 61 turbo'd car would be fine for you.. a T51R would be very hot to handle :)

one step at a time mate............

why not 'just' get a TT? there are plenty fast enough especially with minor mods..........

why such a rush to go single when you can't insure even a stock J-spec car?

330-360BHP has got to be enough in the short term surely?

Welcome mate, I suggest a lot of reading at the start of your journey, a 10k budget would get you no where near installing a T51r Turbo and supporting mods, your looking at at least 10k for the conversion alone + engine rebuild on top! get yourself a nice example from the board here and take it from there dude

Happy Reading

:yeahthat:

To do it properly, you're looking at the price of a TT 6spd (circa £8-10K), plus absolute minimum another £10K for the single instal. The power the T51R wil produce would really need a full engine rebuild, realistically you'd be probably doubling that £10K install figure.

ok this ain't a wind up tom lol.

basically the reason is for the ridiciously unneccesary amount of power is because my dad keeps buying performance cars- 1000bhp escort cossie and an evo FQ400.... ridiciously quick cars and i've been trying to top it. To let ppl know ive got mates (mechanics and tuners) who will do all my installations for next to nothing so its only buying the parts which will cost the cash. if it did all work out the supra would do 0-60 around the 3 sec mark- probably shredding the tyres aswell in the process...

now that has to be a wind up. 1000bhp from a 2l car?!?!?

A 1000bhp supra would be nearly undrivable on public roads and a total pig to drive + you wont need massive power to beat an fq400.

The money your looking to spend will get you no where near that figure, your probably looking at nearer 40k so you had better get saving

supra speed i had a 185bhp b16a2 civic eg, now owner of a n/a supra auto which lacks the low down grunt the the vtec engine has if you had a type r integra you'll really notice a lack of acelaration to 60 on the n/a i think my honda would do the supra 0-60 go TT and get the daddy!! if you cant afford the insurance why dont you get a greddy turbo kit for the integra that will give you 260+ bhp.

Not meaning to sound harsh, but surely even THINKING of 1000bhp at 21yrs old, or even trying to compete with your dad is just plain dangerous?(Your dad, no doubt has a lot more driving experience, and finances behind him to do that sort of thing)

A jap import will be expensive to ensure (if at all achievable at your age) BUT do you really think buying a UK car and then modding it will be cheaper???

I think the term walking before running comes to mind. But good luck in your searches. :)

i was going to supercharge my integra but it wheel spins at 220bhp anyway so 400bhp at the front wheels would be ridiculous and undriveable. after much thought i think i'l prob by a twin turbo supra and see how it is and maybe upgrade turbo's later on but not to a stupid undriveable level- any one know any kind of turbo kits that would match an evo FQ400?

no seriously the cossie is currently running at 890 bhp with the boost turned down, approx 1000bhp at full whack- cossie engines are one of easiest modded engines but ppl don't realise it. it was a lambourghini murcilago the evo was keeping up with- well.. until the lambo span out...

a saxo seems a bit of a step down from an integra r...

seen at twin engined fiesta do 0-60 in 2.9 sec had two cossie lumps in it not sure on the hp though also seen a nova set the 0-60 record in trax silverstone think that was 2005 that did around 2.7 give or take a few 10th of a second that had 2 turbo calibra engines in mental!!!

There is only so much you can get out of an engine, like any other, 890bhp out of a 2l, 4 cylinder engine is highly unlikely, does your Dad have a dyno you can post up or something
