View Full Version : Hampshire mini-meet and barbecue
Given the success of the Portsmouth/Southampton mini-meet (http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=9519) we've decided to hold another local meet in around a months time. :)
It's been suggested that we meet at the Royal Victoria Country Park (http://www.hants.gov.uk/countryside/rvcp/) which is again nicely situated between Portsmouth and Southampton and also sign posted from the motorway, so it should be nice and easy to find.
The intention is to organise a barbecue for this meet, but this will require us to know how many people want to go so it can be booked in advance. The site offers facilities for a small or large barbecue, catering for 25 or 100 people respectively, and at a cost of £20 or £40 respectively. This includes seating, parking and toilet facilities, which works out at only a pound per person if 20 people go and is cheaper than the cost of parking there! :D You will need to bring your own food to cook, and they don't provide charcoal, but neither of these should amount to much.
As before, there are a few dates to choose from. Which ever proves most convenient for the majority will win. All dates are for August and include...
16th (Saturday)
17th (Sunday)
23rd (Saturday)
24th (Sunday)
So if your interested in going then could you let us know here, including prefered dates or dates you know you can't make. I'll also need to know if you're interested in the barbecue, but please don't feel the barbecue is compulsory, your more than welcome just to come along to meet fellow Supra owners. :thumbs:
As this needs to be booked (and may need paying in advance, I'll enquire about that soon) we're going to need to arrange this quickly to make sure we get in, so please reply a.s.a.p. if your interested in joining us.
Hopefully the weather and turn out will be as good (if not better) than the last meet, which all who attended will agree was a great first meet for the area. :cool:

Looks like the 17th wins then, I'll make some enquires to ensure we can book this date. I'll go for the smaller barbecue unless there's a sudden rush of people joining us!

I can't imagine more than 25 turning up anyway, but if they do then great! :)
Some people from further afield should come along to this one too if it's being organised properly with a BBQ and such, should try and turn it into a proper meet (hey, it only took an hour and a half to get down last time from Aylesbury, and was more than worth it, come on guys! :))

I didn't think to do a search on the 16th. I don't know if this will be a big problem as it was posted 6 days ago and only a few people have shown interest. I might go myself if I know enough Supra people are going.
If enough people want to make our meet the week after then ok, but as it stands the 17th has a majority win.

It would also mean people could go to the Sussex meet (http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10450) on the 16th if they didn't want to go to two meets in the same weekend.
Like always, I'm easy, what ever the majority decide I'll go with, but lets decide soon. :)
I'd prefer the 17th, as my girlfriend will have disappeared back to the States again by the 24th and I'm sure she'd have enjoyed it, but oh well. Probably best this way anyway :)

a real pity cuz i'm sure everyone else attending are a top bunch of people except that a certain dread-locked individual who thinks he can spin music (have you heard the crap he plays?) and pretends to be a DJ to pull girlz will be there!
sham - you realize that there are fewer n fewer places that will accept you these days (hence his having to go farther afield) coz they won't even want you back again apologize !
... and the only good friend you will ever know is that horror-bag reflection you see in the mirror everyday (if that judging by the dreads!!)
If you boyz could get down it would be good, as far as i know all hair types and appetite ranges excepted :)

Ouch! Ok, you have twisted my arm! I'll be there on the 24th. I'm sure I'm suppose to be working, but any excuse, eh?! By the way, I did like the turn out of the meet at Lee On Solent. Was really cool (without trying to sound too 80's!) to see some other top notch motors! I was a bit scared though when the old bloke said he was going to bring his Volvo down! I didn't think there was enough room for a tank to be there! :music:

Mystery guy and his wife/girlfriend were very nice, had a good little chat in the pub, car from JIC, used to own a 200K mile rwd toyota carina / celica or something and he'd been to billing the last two years so is probably a long standard member (didn't catch his name though!)

Is anyone from around here (Portsmouth/Southampton) going to Billing this Sunday? It looks like a top event and I'd love to go, but I can't drive my car there as I'll go waaaaay past the number of miles allowed before my next service, and if I do that I'll lose my reamining 2.5 years warranty. :( So I was going to be really cheeky and try and blag a lift from someone. Anyone? Long shot I know, but worth a try. :)

I wasn't going up until about 10.30pm tonight when I got a text from my other half, she maybe going away for the weekend but will let me know tomorrow.
You can see where this is going I take it, if she goes away then yep I'll be there, if not then I'll be with her :twak:
If you can stand being in a slow NA, limited to 112mph then your more than welcome to a lift, if you want sommink faster ....... errr looks round for someone faster :p

As for the warranty, I can go 1000 miles past each service without affecting it. However, I've already gone 700 miles past the next service! It's being done on Tuesday, but I may need to drive to work on Monday (124 mile round trip) so I can't spare the miles.

Took me such a long time to reply cause I have only just paid my money and it took Branners a couple of days to enable me again! I'm still waiting to be set to member status! It was indeed JohnK in the white UK spec but he had to leave early as I believe his missus was giving him an earful! (???!!!) Don't quite know what was going on there... And the red aerotop was mine! I wont be able to go to Billing but I'm going to be there for the Bar B. Now then, where's that greyhound... Anyone for chinese spare ribs? :eek:
Right, I've just phoned them up and they're fully booked during the day, have been for ages apparently. :( The earliest day time barbecue we can have is Saturday 20th September! :eek:
However, we can book the evening barbecue for the 24th of August if we want. 6pm - 11pm on a Sunday is going to be a bit late for anyone with work on the Monday, especially those travelling. So what shall we do?
1) Forget the barbecue, we can have a picnic or raid a burger van instead. (There is a cafe on site)
2) Book the evening barbecue, still have everyone turn up during the day but wait until the eveing before having anything to eat.
3) Find out the name and address of whoever has already book the barbecue and send the 'boys' round to convince them to cancel!
4) Hijack a Nova on the way and use it's boot as a barbecue.
Despite 3 and 4 being very tempting, I vote for number 1. I expect people could even bring those 1-use barbecue's as long as they also bring a brick to put it on so they don't burn the grass.
Well, if it's a nice evening then a night BBQ for dinner would be good too. Just because it's booked til 11, doesn't mean we have to stay til then.
If we have a booking for 6-11pm, meet up a bit earlier, have a dinner BBQ and head off at 8 or 9 or something?
Failing that, I'm happy for a picnic or similar, and stuff you all I'm still gonna bring a 2 quid Tesco disposable BBQ (and ensure I have a brick available).
So, I'm happy with all the suggestions (particularly the Nova one). Incidently, I'm much more of a night owl anyway, don't factor (my) travel times into this, I'm just as happy driving home at 2am as 2pm (just means the roads are clear:))

Well seeing as I'm only just down the road and it'll only take me about 20 mins to get there or back means I'm with everyone else.
I think we should leave it to the people who have a fair distance to travel (excluding night owl pulse ;) ) to see if they are still up for the evening suggestion.
Good idea about meeting up beforehand though, say 5pm and by the time everyone has arrived and done the introductions etc etc then the BBQ should be available.
I'll go with the crowd :)

2 things..
1) Work shouldn't be an issue for anybody, as August 24th is a bank holiday weekend (Mon 25/8).. so there should be no issues with a Sunday night BBQ.
2) I can't come on that date :( I totally forgot about a good friend of mine's annual BBQ on that bank holiday weekend on the Isle of Wight.. I agreed to it 12 months ago :)

Right, I've just booked the barbecue for Sunday 24th in the evening. I'll get a form soon that I have to send back with £20, I'll then get 15 free car passes for the day. So as it stands at the moment I'll be charging people £4 each to cover the cost of hiring the barbecue. Don't forget you need to bring your own food.

As for time, how bout 2 ish to get down there and meet up with everyone else, grab a drink and then mosey on down to RVCP later.

I don't know what time yet, but since I'm going to be travelling to the Isle Of Wight on the weekend of the BBQ (on the Sunday, in fact), if it's at the right time (I _THINK_ it might be..) I will stop in at the pub on my way through and say hello. I'm going to be that close anyway, I can stop for half an hour.

Ok, so if you lot are leaving Sainsburys around 2pm then everyone else might as well aim to get to the pub from 2:30pm onwards.
For those of you who haven't been to this pub before, or those who can't remember from last time, here's the directions of how to get there from the motorway.

Following the routes above will also take you past a Shell station that sells Optimax at 79p/litre, which isn't too bad if you need to top up with fuel. (Especially if your travelling from Wales!)
The barbecue isn't ours until 6pm, but I will have 15 car passes so if we do go down there earlier then we can park in one of the non-barbecue car parks until it's our time. I think we should be leaving the pub at 5pm latest.
Remember you'll need to bring your own food and cooking utensils, and we'll need to organise some charcoal as well. If the tempreature is anything like today then please ensure all food is kept cool whilst at the pub. We don't want anyone going down with food poisoning!
Now as group organiser I have to indemnify Hampshire County Council against any claims arising from this booking. Yeah right, I'm not stupid! So, to cover my own arse, by attending this meet you agree to indemnify me from any claims arising as a result of you or your actions... so there! So no trying to see who can hold their hands in the barbecue the longest, or trying to set fire to your farts, or anything else that blokes get up to when they get to play with fire!

Sorry for the long delay in replying but everytime I tried to get on I was transfered to some crappy web host address. I'm actually working bank holiday monday, oh the joys of being a security officer (!) but I will still be at both events and it also seems I have picked up a bird, that I dont have to pay for sex and works as a nurse:innocent: so I'l see if she wants to come as well. Well me and my dad are still upfor it, just organising the day off work (yea i work sundays its a drag), so its definaltly on the sunday and at the pub at 2 (ish)
sounds great, have we finalised details for bbq??? will it be everyone pay so much or is it cook what ya brung??? ( no remarks of overcooking supes guys hehe)
I attended a bbq with skyline owners club at billing my dads a member and every body payed a £10 and one unlucky person goes to tesco's or where ever and gets loads of food what do ya think is it a good idea???
definitely needs some thought this one, everyone bringing a sausage, burger, finger roll and bap doesn't make sense!
Maybe some of the 100% definites could take responsibility for certain areas. I'd be willing to take on something like a cool box full of soft drinks, or the sausage / burger side of things etc. The boys meeting at sainburys early on could get the rolls, baps and sauces etc just need a few people to coordinate things so we don't end up over/under doing it.
I don't mind doing the rolls and baps, every bloke lokes baps, but I will need a def number for the amount whose coming so I know how much to bring. I'll see if some checkout girls from Sainsbury's would like to come as well!:D

Would it not be worth getting the stuff after we've left the pub? I mean, Sainsbury's is only one junction past the junction we need for barbecue and can't be more than a miles distance. Just a thought, save having all that stuff in hot cars all day, especially if the weather is what it's like today. (Off topic I know, but I've just had to take my new wheels of my car to send one back, and now I'm sweating like a blind lesbian in a fish shop!)
Also, both me an my girlfriend have Macro cards, so we could stop off there for supplies. It also wouldn't involve making a detour as it's on the junction 9 roundabout. Just an idea. The other advantage of getting the stuff on the way there is we'll know exactly how many people are going (give or take 1 or 2 who are driving straight to the barbecue).

Just a thought but the likes of sainbury tesco etc shut at 4 on sundays round my way + if its a nice day ie everyones bbq'ing we'll probably be better off getting the baps / rolls in the morning, as Ad suggested.
I've got a cool box that i often fill with ice cubes and drinks food etc that will keep everything cool for long enough. I could make the early meet up at sainsbury and we could get what we need and pickup extras if necessary after the pub meet?

Due to a suicidal deer this morning, my bumper is poking out slightly :mad: The bodyshop can do it, fix the bumper and respray, but wont be until 21st and will take two days to do. I had a thought today (yea it hurt).. since ppl want chicken i do too.. but its not a good idead to cook chicken from raw on a bbq, sooo i propose (marry me pleeeaaaasssseeee) lol
if the ppl that want chicken put a list here so i have an idea how much to buy (i'll do more than required just in case) i'll buy the chicken before the sunday and microwave em for a few mins before i come down we can then fininsh them off on the bbq for that authentic charcoal burned i mean cooked taste..

i guess im mistaken then Actually that's true for everything you cook on a bbq, the difference with chicken is it's thicker and therefore a lot easier to burn the outside whilst leaving the middle uncooked. This shouldn't be a problem if we get chicken bits intended to be cooked on a bbq.

I think the photo attachments are limited in size unless your hosting them on anothe site. When you goto make a post, above where you type is a section called vB Code and to the right of that there is an IMG button, click that to add a photo I think.

BP garage is a bit 'the wrong way for me' but there aren't many other good meeting points, maybe the Hindhead lights area or Liphook services, but i'm easy really, depends if any others need to meet up and what they prefer.
I'd suggest about 2.00ish to meet +- a bit depending on final meet location.

Ok! Its been a few hours since the barbie and I still don't have gut rot! Result! Cheers to Millhouse for sorting the gear, cheers to Mawby for sorting out the car park tickets and cheers to the chef and chefette for doing the cooking. Top result all round. Nice to see a few more subtley modded cars to come. Hopefully it will get more and more popular as we go on especially as the Kent boys made the effort. But it does seem that Mid life has little green men living under his car with their own disco system!
Yep good day, nice cruise down and back with the kent boys and nice setting, food and atmosphere at the BBQ. Only worrying thing about it all is, as it got dark I was kinda impressed by the neon brigade especially Mid's in time with the music setup.
It was pretty sunny all day so maybe I'd just caught the sun a tad, or maybe i'm turning to the 'dark' (or should that be 'light') side...........

A BIG BIG Thankyou to Millhouse n Mawby for what turned out to be a truly fantastic BBQ and Pub meet...made some new friends, saw some stunning Supras, bought some expensive Optimax on way down...(worth every penny)
What a great turnout...missed a few people, but that can't be helped....

Absolutely Brill day out......
Good drive down......Good fun at pub.......Fun drive to the BBQ (including the totally confused copper).....and Greatr blast home run..
We even managed to stop the cricket match as we pulled into the park area.....As well as every one else stopping to see 15 or so Supras making their noise on the way through.....

Yep, brilliant day out all round, great to meet some more people off of here and put faces to names.
Great meet at Jnctn 7 especially when that Marcos turned up, very very nice car......great convoy to Lee-On-Solent with 7 Supes all managing to stay together.
Even better convoy from the pub to the BBQ although it got a bit fragmented but glad we all managed to turn up together.
Great weather and damn good BBQ, hats off to Dunk and Mrs Dunk and Scooter for the cooking, just glad we managed to get some charcoal......
Oh and those neons......I'm starting to see the appeal :conf:

The Old Rectory. This beautiful old mansion built by Queen Victoria apparently (probably not by hand), on the top of a hill overlooking a valley and a town below, with the Medina flowing in the valley at the bottom. Absolutely stunning place, something like 17 bedrooms on a beautiful plot.
I'd love to live there :)
I did see that bit of dual carriageway (Whippingham is right near it) - the only place I put my foot down :) Lost the Peugot 306 that was following me to the house for a bit, then slowed to let him catch up :)

Ok, anyone want to make some suggestions for the next meet? Where should we go this time? We need to think of something to better the excellent barbecue we just had! :D
As the meets are getting more popular we are going to have to choose a different pub to pre-meet at, one which has better parking facilities and is less crowded. I can recommend The Bun Penny (http://www.gosport.gov.uk/sections/enjoying/tourism-in-gosport/where-to-eat/the-bun-penny) as it's not far from The Old Ship, and as you all found your way there ok you'll have no problems finding it. The car park is much larger and less likely to fill up as it's set back from the seafront. As always, this is our meet so I'm happy for any suggestions from the rest of you if you think there's a better pub to meet at.
As soon as we've got some ideas flying around I'll start a new thread as before and take it from there, including the short listing of dates.

I think we should do some sort of county to county Gumball / pub crawl. I like the group cruising as much as the meets
People in different areas could nominate a suitable pub, we select one as the starting point and then post up the routes to the next one etc etc.
You could go mad ie Kent / Sussex / Surrey /Hants /maybe up to Swindon (maybe oxford / northampton M1) or back to london on the M4 in a kinda of circular route. People could break off for home when / if they felt like it, and people could join when the convoy came through their area.

It's just there's lots of events going on up country but never any along the south. Just have a quick look at the Events section, the first page shows events for Northants, Isle of Man, Cambridgeshire, Immingham, Newcastle, York, Reading, Crawley, etc. :p

I started arranging meets in Kent which have had some good turn outs, but im willing to travel to various gigs within reason.....

I want to organise a massive group photo shoot .
Like putting all the cars behind us in a form of a semi cirlce. Half, front forward, the other ass facing the camera..
We could group up in front n somehow the photo taker should be few feet high like on a small ladder etc..(may be dangling from a crane or somink)
u never know where this photo might appear.. certainly in my place in big, when i get to open 1 wherever that is ..

Well our meet started at 14:30 and didn't finish until about 21:00 i think, maybe later. Is 6 hours long enough for you! :p

I really should try and get some kind of fixing for a camcorder to put on the dashboard, either that or I need a passenger.
Taking pictures with my digi cam was bad enough, no way am I gonna try it with a camcorder :conf:

biker bud of mine was stopped once with a cam fixing and was lucky enough not to have anything recorded! lol be shy on that idea dog...! lol;)
