JonW
First set of pads on the nearside rear went in with no probs. As for the rest I couldn't get the pins out to release the caliper. I used as much force as I dare without wanting to shear the heads off. Any suggestions as to how to loosen the pins? Or should I give up now and let a garage deal with it?? TrickTT
Hit them from the back side of the caliper with a hammer and small drift while twisting them slightly from the side with a pair of mole grips. If that fails you will have to cut the pins by the pads and get them out with an air hammer. New pins are not that expensive from Toyota and it may be worth investing in a new set and a big tub of copper grease.

JonW
Thanks Pete, I will book it into a garage, I don't have the tools or the skin left on my hands to deal with that. I'll get some spare pins in just to be ready
JonW
Just for other peoples info Toyota have quoted £50.15 for a new set of pins.
Pete
Just for other peoples info Toyota have quoted £50.15 for a new set of pins. 6.27 each? Robbing swines!
JonW
Who might sell them cheaper??
Pete
Who might sell them cheaper?? Sorry - I've not got any suggestions on that. I just thought they are robbing swines! Just another one of those essential service items that Toyota like to rip you off with. Perhaps try a club friendly Toyota garage? http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=59217 or Steve Manley
Ark
I bought a full set of pins some months ago, but I'm certain they weren't that expensive. I'll see if I can find the invoice when I get home, and confirm the part numbers for you.
JonW
That would be useful thanks very much
Ark
OK, here we go: Rear pins: T90240-06019 x 4 @ £1.45 = £5.80 Front pins: T90240-06017 x 4 @ £1.55 = £6.20 Somewhat cheaper, eh? This is for big brakes, not little brakes by the way.
JonW
This may sound like a silly question but which direction should I be turning the pins to get them out.
Ark
Either - they aren't threaded.
JonW
The one that I did manage to do had 2 threaded bolts holding everything in place??
Scooter
just looked in your garage and you have small jap spec brakes yes? The bolts you undid are they the ones holding the whole carrier to the car (17mm) or the ones on the calipers themselves (14mm)?
JonW
They were the 14mm ones. We managed it in the end now all sorted. Thanks for the advice everyone.
Ark
The one that I did manage to do had 2 threaded bolts holding everything in place?? Bolts are undone anti-clockwise. Pins (which you asked about) aren't threaded so they turn either direction if they are loose.
