I could use a holiday web site, but hey between all the members on here we pretty much know everything about everything!

Me and the GF are looking for somewhere to go away this summer (probably late June / early July), and Zante has caught our eye. All the brochures make it look nice but hey, they always do.

All we're looking for is a bit of a romantic place with nice beaches and no bloody 18-30 lager louts, nothing expensive.

Any experience you lot have will be appreciated. :)

Loved it there.

You MUST swim in Smugglers Cove - it's the pic every brochure ever has used to show an idyllic beach.
See http://www.zanteweb.gr/

Also if you go in the right time you'll see the Caretta Caretta (Loggerhead turtles) at Laganas beach. We hired a peddlow and got to see two right next to us! Amazing.

Like you we prefer some peace and quiet and love the Greek way of life and food. We stayed at Argassi which suited us down to the ground. That was a few years ago now though and my experience tells me all Greek places are sadly busier than they used to be :(

If you're going to Zante I can recommend Alykes - brilliant place and away from all the louts.

Been twice and would definitely go again. :D

Thanks Guys  What were the restaurants like in Alykes Ivan? It looks half deserted from that pic! :D

Smuggler's cove looks amazing Pete, will definately make sure we see it.

The whole place is based on one strip along the beach. The empty space behind is salt flats with more small hotels nearest the camera.

The area to the right is the main village/town area and there are plenty of good restaurants there. A few good beach cafes for lunchtimes too.

Hired a small 125cc scrambler type bike the first visit and went all over the island.
Got a Virago 2nd visit and the missus hated it - we fell off 'cos she leaned in a sharp bend last minute. Won't be doing that again. :)

Thanks mate very useful info.

Well you know, the bit about the island, not your misses falling off a bike! :D

Tsilivi is a good place for a romantic holiday. Went there with the ex bird 3 years ago. Its far enough away from the big night life and has a great choice of places to eat.

That cove is awsome too, make sure you check it out!

Zante is brilliant. although we did stay in the bar/club area, cant remember what it was called, so it was noisy for us. but away from that area it was lovly.

Same as Pete, stayed in the same place and the water really is that blue at smugglers. Plan to go back again this year as to date it's the most relaxing holiday we have ever been on.
