Car Tax

Mattanas bang on.

Just to back up the other thread on this, I too rang DVLA to get it straight.

Any car both manufactured after 2001 AND first registered in the UK after 2001 fall under the new charges based on CO2 emissions.

Any car manufactured before 2001 is still taxed according to engine capacity, regardless of when it was first registered in the UK.....So, with an engine capacity higher than 1549cc, pre 2001 Supra car tax has gone up £5 to £180 per anum, £99 for six months.

There is a further clause which seems to cover late imports...

"Please note: These (post 2001 registered CO2 emissions) rates apply only to cars that have been type approved within category M1 of Annex II to Council Directive 70/156/EEC and which have been registered on the basis of a type approval certificate that shows its carbon dioxide emissions level in terms of grams per kilometre driven"

This implies cars that dont have an official type approval CO2 figure fall under the engine capacity rates.
