Had to pick up an oil filter from toyota today, and got chatting to the parts guy about the car, i asked him out of intrest how much a smic was?

he looked it up on the computer and it was...

£998+vat!!

The parts guy nearly fell off his chair!

(makes the cw smic a bargin!!)

So then i asked him to see how much the six speed box cost?

i knew these were expensive....

But £5000 +vat that just crazy!!

No wonder so many cars are written off:( , with oem part prices that much!

Seems you don;t have a very friendly dealer! You can get a new SMIC for a fraction of that price, Chris Manley supplies them for £300-£400.

The gearbox price is correct, its a Getrag unit and thats just what they're cost. Remeber this was a £40k car 14 years ago.

Yup - I remember being quoted £280 for a rubber front lip for mine from Mr. T. couldn't believe it!

I guess you have to remember that these parts are still using up warehouse space for Toyota, and have been for (in some cases) 14 years. I'm quite impressed they still have stock parts available ... not impressed enough to pay that, though! ;)
