Big singles and the standard airbox.

I won't put this in tech as it's not really a tech question as such.

I'm guessing from looking at all the lovely big single cars on here that there is a reason why the stock airbox isn't used. What is it?

Is it a question of not allowing enough air in or is it due to limited space in the engine bay?

The inlet is to small id say, i have seen some aftermarket airboxes that look pretty good though.

I've not seen those. I'd assume they also prevent warm air being sucked in too.

I should just add that I'm not planning anything. I'm just curious and couldn't find an answer.

I did start modifying a stock box ages ago but never finished it.

The inlet needs replacing with something sensible like a 4" pipe.

I was thinking of making something like this.

I have seen a few people with custom boxes, they are a good idea but you need to ensure you can get nice cold air into the box area.

Its that or relocate the filter in the side of the bumper.

I think the Envy car has that.
