View Full Version : Fitted new stereo, now no sound
I've had enough of this bloody thing now. Got a new Sony car stereo for my birthday, great I thought, easy job just get the autoleads adapter and pocket thing and half an hour to fit tops...
Only I get all that, take the dash off... then realise sony are a bunch of *$&^% and it's a different connector on the back. So back out and buy an ISO to Sony adapter.
Plugged this into the back of the stereo, plugged the autoleads one into that, then plug the two ends of that into the car's connectors. Plugged the aerial in too... What's the small cable thing next to the aerial? Ok left that unplugged. Sony adapter has two other connectors comming off it but one says Telephone mute on it and the other I think is Amp remote power? Left those as well.
Connect all the dash up again for the second time, everything seems to work ok, stereo has power, lets turn it on... No bleedin' sound. Why? :(
I've read a couple of threads about bypassing the stock amp which suggest there's some other adapter that the two white plugs connect into down the left hand side of the transmission tunnel and that that then connects into the back of the stock stereo?
Wasn't like that on mine, two white plugs connected straight into the back of my stock stereo and go off up into the loom towards the speedo etc.
Well I've been out and checked everything and still no sound. One thing I have noticed is that every time I turn it on it defaults to "ATT On" whatever the hell that is. I turn it off but it makes no difference.
Why do I even bother I'm just gonna buy a cheap portable cd player and cigarette lighter adapter.

Att on is sonys attenuate, try to remove it and find out why its on.....
My old 306 used to do that with a sony and stock Peugeot steering remote thingy....
There's a ATT button on the remote, I press that and it then says ATT off... but it doesn't make any difference. No sound on either Radio, CD, or AUX. Another thing is that is you press seek when on the radio it just keeps saying "Seek +" all the time like it can't find anything.

Now i have....took a while to write out my number, i cant help being special ;)
ATT in my Pioneer is muting sound when ON. If your radio is not finding any radio station, it is likely you didn't connect proper antenna plug into your Sony headunit? There is 2 of them there, one for main antenna and one for internal. When you switching your radio on, does antenna going out? If previous stereo was working in this car and you got proper ISO plug, I would rather concentrate on Sony headunit settings, not on cables.
I used the big aerial connector, I know now that the small one is for the one integrated into the rear screen.
The radio aerial does go up and down correctly when I switch between radio and CD.
Changing ATT to on or off doesn't change anything unfortunately. I have noticed something else though when going through the settings, I can turn "beep on" and it then beeps through the speakers whenever you press a button. So the speakers must be connected ok? If the fuse on the back of the stereo had gone would I just not get any power to the stereo or could that just be for the internal amp or something?

Nice to meet you Mr Michael :)
Shame we couldnt suss that bleedin head unit out :(
Yeah thanks for having a look and making sure I wasn't being a muppet and wired it up wrong (yeah I know you can't exactly go wrong plugging a cable adapter in but I've managed worse before).
Shame it looks like it's the head unit that's knackered but my Girlfriend kept the receipt so I'll take it back one day this week and will have to look at getting a different one. Might have to be another Sony one though... that ISO to Sony adapter cost a bleedin fortune! But I'm open to recommendations :)
Good to meet you too, I'll have to call in again some time if I'm visiting my dad, should be at the next Squires meet... although I said that about the last two :D
