One of my rear speakers wasnt sounding to hot today so took it out and its blantantly buggered!:

Wanted to get some new speakers anyway for both front and rear, so any recommendations for some quality speakers. Dont want anything thats going to blow my head off mind.

i know little about ice really, never really bothered with it, but ive measured the diameter of the above speaker and its approx 15cm. Ive heard talk of 17cm speakers being the choice for replacement. Is this true for both front and rear? whats the stock size of the fronts?

I think the feeling is get 6.5" for both fron and back.

The back takes 6.5" once the plastic speaker is out of the way. The front will need the MDF mounts making to accommodate 6.5".

If not you could just get some 4" (?) fronts, I think I read the stock ones are 4".

cheers Steb, yeah i get vibe that 17cm is the way to go but why?

Also, what are compenent speakers all about and why are they so much better?

ah so its all about seperating the work the speaker has to do into focused "components"! cool.

Still any recommendations tho?

I would recommend Boston S60. They are entry level for Boston but they are so much better than Alpine/Kenwood/infinity alternatives. Even when they arnt amped up they rival bose entry level but around £100 per set!

Matt I had some front Alpine X-type components put in by sextons, fantastic job but not cheap at £350 odd for the speakers. :)

Alpine type Es from halfrauds. OEM replacement and very crisp clear sound.

Of course as nick says the type X's are very good too!

Matt,

Are you going for a AV system or a Standard music.

If you going for a music type of system buy the best you can afford for the fronts, does not matter to much about the back ones, as long as you get good staging up front, have you looked at the Rainbow CS265.25 Germanium? nice sound great quality but you will need an amp at least 75 watts of power to get the most out of them.

If you going for an AV type of system I still would spent must of my cash on the front speakers but you will need to consider your rears more.

Also focal's are nice. but tweeters on the lower end models can be a little over the top as I think the base speaker has the same tweeter as the high end ones.

just something standard, nothing special really. dont wont to spend the earth on new speakers, not really a priority for me right now, just something good and worth the money which is slightly better than OEM i suppose

I have some Kenwoods that came out of the back of mine if you want them. They won't be brilliant but they'll be better than stock.

The fronts are 4"/10cm as standard and have 3 mounting holes in a triangular pattern. The rears are 6.5"/17cm and have 4 mounting holes in a square pattern. You will need to find speakers that have mouting points in the right place or you will need to make brackets/drill holes anyway to mount them properly.

Matt, have a listen to someone elses before you decide, Its really down to the indivdual on what they class as quaility but the difference between stages is amazing, but then again so are the prices.
