a die or if using a lathe a die box mate
just re-read your post, if you are trying to screw a bolt into the hole then you'll need a tap (make sure you tap it straight)
:yeahthat:
A die for turning a rod into a bolt
or a tap for turning a hole into a nut (or whatever as threaded hole is called)
wow, havnt used one since CDT 10 years ago at school. but i knew the answer was a Tap and Die :D

do you mean you have a straight 'rod' of metal? if you want to screw a bolt into it you need to drill it out (the correct size) then tap it (to give a female thread) - Hope this helps :)
I got a kit like this (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/10-pce-Tap-Die-Set-Sizes-4-5-6-8mm_W0QQitemZ280089504333QQihZ018QQcategoryZ30917QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item280089504333) from halfords ages ago. :)

nope, i enjoyed CDT! i still have the toffee hammer that i made!
CDT? Whatever happened to plain old metalwork?
Try Machine Mart, about £20-30 for a tap and die set, unless you're wanting to do huge Dibnah size nuts and bolts.
If it's a tap you need ( to thread a hole/internal) I should be able to help you out with metric sizes etc.
But we don't really carry any dies (for threading bar/external).
Halfords do a set of taps and dies in a red tin for about £20 iirc, I thought I'd only use it once, but it's come in handy a few times when doing various bits on the car...
The halfords kit is only metric. A lot of the aftermarket stuff we need is in Japanese sizes - BSPT equivalent.
I didn't even know there were Japanese sizes for threads.
Lump Hammer ??? :d
Ian C .... is Indian.

I think they use an odd combination of BSP and metric, only they call it PT, not BSPT or something.
